Yes it was released on video. Check your local Walmart, Target etc.

Don't listen to Blockbuster! I just found the movie

on Amazon.com for about $10.00. I've ordered from

them and it's a good service. Hope this helps!

I can for sure tell you that it is out on video. I use to show it the first

night of my EMT and paramedic classes, until some ultra-PC student complained,

and got my hiney in a crack over the whole thing a few years ago. In fact, I

use

to rent it from Blockbuster. Go to just about any place you can order videos

and

you should find it. I'm thinking on showing " Mother, Jugs, and Speed " (good

movie)or maybe a " Yucky Duck, Paramedic " (a Cartoon Channel cartoon) or maybe

even

" Bringing Out the Dead " (good book, not so good of a movie) to my next class,

maybe this PC thing has died off a little.

This movie WAS released on video. I used to check it out and show the scene

where Mother's partner got blown away as an intro to my " Staying Alive on

the Streets " presentation for my 1st semester paramedic students.

Blockbuster was where I used to get it from. However, they eventually

stopped stocking it and started claiming they'd never had it. I guess I

hallucinated the 3 times I checked it out, huh.

Keep your eye on the adverstisements in JEMS. I have seen it available

mailorder a couple of times through ads in that magazine.

I'm on my way to blockbuster now...and about Bringing out the Dead..one

word...SUCKED....I was totally disappointed in Nick Cage and Goodman..I

thought it was terrible....But, I'm no Siskel or Ebert so what do I know??

It is a wild comedy that secretly displays what commercial EMS used to be

like in most parts of the country in the late '60's and early '70's. The

first time I saw it, I was horrified to realize that practically everything

(well almost everything) in it had occurred at our EMS service in the 12

months prior. Bill Cosby is great as a streetwise paramedic, " Mother. "

Welch plays rookie EMT, " Jugs. " A young Harvey Keitel plays the

suspended cop-turned EMT, " Speed. " If you haven't seen it, you should. And

you thought " Bringing Out the Dead " was embarrassing.

You worked hard, studied your tail off did your hospital

rotations, ambo ride outs took your test and passed it but NO EMT

Certification would be complete without seining this movie!!! It is

hilarious! See it when you can.

I was a medic when this movie came out. The entire shift went en mass to

see it. I think we sat through 4 consecutive screenings of it. It was a

fairly realistic picture of the then current EMS scene.

In regards to the gentleman who was lambasted by not being politically

correct, it is said to say that speaking or showing the truth unvarnished

can get you in trouble. Sorry to hear about the hassles you had with the

showing. This movie as well as the book, " The House of God " , (this was also

made into a movie),should be required reading or viewing for all potential

EMS (I include E.R. Nursing in this as well) health care professionals.

How about " Paramedics " .

I liked the ambulance that those two hotshots drove in Paramedics. That was

one movie that I watched back when I was a kid that made me want to become a

medic. Now that I am in EMS, WHAT WAS I THINKING??? ha ha ha ha ha :-)\

and remember, I happen to be the best dermatologist in LA. ha ha

Good Lord Man!!! How long have you been in the business and how old are you??

This '70s flick is nothing but an allstar view of life in the business back

then! It is also one hilariously funny movie that makes you cringe one minute

and roll on the floor the next, get a copy and the popcorn and have fun!!!

No it wasn't Patch . The movie I was thinking of had an Ambulance pull

up front of this house and when the medic went to the front door the guy

inside shot through the door and killed the medic. The driver pulled out a

large hand gun and returned fire, killing the man with the shotgun. A girl

was there also and needed a morphine fix, that is why the ambulance was

called in the first place.

How about " Paramedics " . Not The good TLC show, but the AWFUL movie that came

out in the late 1980's? Ugh! What a stinker that was!
