Guest guest
Hmmmm........last I checked this list was here so we could help each other out. I don't think I ask many questions on here, and if I do, I make sure I research before I ask. As for the questions I asked today, I cannot research if a doc is saying amorphous " junk " and I wanted to get a 2nd opinion as to how to word that correctly. If you feel questions on this list are too basic, perhaps you should not answer them and hit the delete button. As for my reference books, I have Taber's medical dictionary, Stedman's electronic medical dictionary, Quick Look Drug Book 2001, Monthly Prescribing Reference, Dictionary of Medical Acronyms and Abbreviations, The AAMT Book of Style, The Gregg Reference Manual, 1999 PDR, and Webster's dictionary. Monday I ordered $200 worth of books from Stedmans that were on sale, and that's the most I've spent at one time. Prior to that I had ordered about $100 worth and promised myself I wouldn't order more until those were paid for.. which I did. I've been buying more each payday. I think I pretty well have all the ones I want. The only exception is since I've already bought a new drug reference this year (Quick Look Electronic 2001), I'll wait till next year and buy the new Drake and Drake. Oh, and Vera Pyle, which is on back order right now. I suppose it might be a little different if one were an IC.. One could possibly take out a business loan and perhaps buy things all at once, but I'm an employee and pretty much always have been, so I've been buying as I go each payday. That's part of the reason why most of the time when I answer questions on this list I give my source..That way the other MTs on here get an idea of what books are good references. Just my 2 cents. " >> That's the big problem and then people don't know what they are getting into. Initial cash outlay is enormous and again, if you don't have the tools of the trade, then you shouldn't be in the trade. Too many newbies have the idea of working at home, blah, blah, blah, and then blame it on the schools, etc., or whatever, because it costs more than they thought in order to get started. Anybody jumping into a new field needs to research the field thoroughly and but buy what schools, etc., have to say when you are paying them. Be informed. I don't have a problem again newbies. It's mainly the schools and some of the larger national companies that just throw these women to the wolves basically giving them horrible dictators, acute care right off of the bat rather than letting them cut their teeth on clinic work or a specialty in order to get familiar with one set of terms. I never put a newbie on acute care unless there are no accents whatsoever. Then if they do get an accent, it's in a clinic setting. So what I'm trying to say is shame on the newbies for buying all of this gullible stuff without researching the field nor making the proper investment for a promised match book $50K annually and shame to corporate America for exploiting that. Some gal e-mailed me with her reference book list which pretty much consisted of a dictionary and a drug book. That will not cut it in the real working world. If you do have a cash crunch re books, you can at the very minimum, get away with a great drug book, AAMT BOS, Sloane's Medical Word Book (the 4th edition just came out) and a top of the line dictionary. I have nothing against newbies and actually do try to help but it is very obvious when one of you doesn't research. The s/l is one thing with the colchicine incident but maybe wording the question differently would be helpful to us old toads here; such as " I've done so-and-so but just want to make sure this is right. " That is most certainly respected and very consciencious. (¨`v´¨) -;- `v´ *¤·¸.·´¨¨) .· ´¨) -;- ¸.·´ ¸.·´ ¸.·´ (_¸.·´ (_¸.·´`·.
