I have been ever so fortunate enough to have most of my books given to me,

except for my Dorland's, which was around $50, my BOS, which I got from my

company for $50, and my PDR (I know, I know, a waste of money, but I have

used it quite a bit since I got it!) for about $40 off E-bay (2000 edition!)

Reference materials, both books and software, are extremely expensive and

sometimes hard to come by. Not everybody can afford to buy the reference

material they need. Besides, I just don't think it economical for me to

purchase a reference book for a certain specialty if I only type it every

once in a very blue moon. I'd rather save my money for more important

things, such as keeping my kids clothed and fed. Oh wait, I guess those

aren't nearly as much of a priority to some people, silly me.

First off, I've been an MT for only about 3½ years. That said, who made anyone

else judge and jury of who should not be transcribing or not? Maybe some of the

questions would be covered by what *most* reputable schools teach, but who is to

say who went to a reputable school or who got their training through ICS? (Like

me, thank you very much. No preparation for me at all for being an MT, but I

got my CMT last June and am doing just fine, thank you). I must admit that

sometimes I see some of the questions on the list and can't believe they are

being asked, but I'm sure when I asked my first question on this list about 2½

years ago there were others our there thinking the same thing. This is a list

for NEW medical transcriptionists, after all, so you have to expect questions

that may seem very basic to someone with more experience.

As far as MTs that seem lazy and that are just asking a question without

researching, isn't there people like that in every job you've ever seen? Why

should MT be any different?

I don't care what the question is, if I can answer it, I usually do. If I

can't, I don't. Why try to figure out whether the person has researched it to

death? If you feel that way about it just hit the delete key - no biggie - no

harm done.

I know it was a joke. That is why I send it. I know that you are not too

lazy. People like that other person (you know who) should be ignored. That was

the first time I had encountered e-mail through the list like that. I must have

received over 200 messages yesterday. A lot of it was bantered back and forth.

I have learned so much from this list and have contributed when I can. That is

what networking is all about. That we learn from each other. Later. Oh, BTW I

am testing with RIU today. Wish me luck.

I'm so mixed up in my e-mails, I can't tell if this has been answered or

not, but " distant " would be correct. I'm assuming the pt has breast cancer

which can spread to distant sites such as those mentioned.
