This sounds interesting, I may have to get that magazine. I was just thinking I

may attempt a 30 day challange that invloves the " D " word!! I want to go down a

size and I don't think TaeBo alone is going to do it as fast as i want it. A

red-headed, Aries, Indian woman is NOT known for her paitence :-)

Amy, you don't have to buy the magazine (at least I don't think you do).

You can check it out online at http://self.com/challenge/. You can even

register right there. I subscribe to Self but haven't gotten my magazine yet

(maybe today). It seems like a pretty cool challenge. I don't know if I

will try it, I'm REALLY horrible at keeping track of my food intake. I

mean, I can try to eat relatively healthy but it's REALLY hard for me to

count how many servings of dairy, starches, protein, sweets, etc. that I have

during the day. I would LOVE to do this challenge but I seem to have some

type of mental block when it comes to understanding how to measure and

calculate. For example, Icecream... of course it's dairy but it's filled

with carbs too. If someone can simplify any of this for me and maybe show me

a semi-simple way of keeping track of this stuff that would be awesome. I

would love to do the challenge but I need guidance. :) I can be emailed

privacy if you'd rather!

I want to do this too! But I never stick with anything :( Hey, I think ice

cream would either go in the " sweets " or dairy. I would say dairy, that is

how I justify eating it, lol! If you get a picture of the food pyramid, carbs

are stuff like breads, cereal, bagels, pasta. I don't think you have to count

everything with carbs as a carb. I want to do this challenge!

:)

I haven't looked at my March issue of Self yet (I brought the Feb

issue with me to my aunt's....LOL), but I'm sure it's at home and I

checked the website and it sounds like this would be a fun challenge

to do, especially with other people! How about if we start on

Thursday since it's March 1st? That way we could do it for the full

3 months :) Isn't it a gradual type thing where the first month you

just have to work out 3 times a week and then each month you add

something else? I haven't really looked at it in depth yet, but I'm

thinking this will be a great way to get my eating habits back on

track! I've been slacking a little bit in that department (to say the

least...LOL)!

I'm game! And Thursday sounds good since my 21 day challenge is ending on

Tuesday! I'll have another motivator to keep me going!

<< Ok, I signed up and I am in, starting today!! Question, Do we have to log

everything we eat, I did not see that mentioned on the website. I found the

personal log, but nothing about writing everything down. Tht will be a

challenge!!

Everyone have a great day!!

It doesn't come right out and say it, but I would guess yes if you are

eventually going to have to make sure you are eating the proper number of

servings from each food group. Plus it will help on the " meeting your caloric

needs "

<< What are people using for flexibility? >>

I'll be taping some yoga workouts from television. I really need to work on

my hamstrings. They are really tight and running/walking is making them

tighter. When I do Tae Bo, my fronts kicks aren't very high, simply because

my hamstrings have very little flexibility. I'm really excited about this

SELF challenge! It will motivate me to do strength training as well as get

my eating in control again. I think it will be good for me in all aspects of

my health and fitness levels.

What are people using for flexibility? Are you doing particular tapes, etc.?

Thanks!

her strength workout last night

Colleen, I'm using Yoga for flexability. You could always learn a few

stretches and do them while watching TV. Remember to stretch before and after

weights as well!!

I signed up but didn't read the info.

Do I need to change my diet. I am low carb and plan on staying low carb, have

been for years and it works for me.

Hope I can still do the challenge, I better start reading about it if I am going

to start on March 1.

Phyll,

I'm not going to change my diet either. I'm a " semi-low carber " , I follow

the Zone as that is what works for me. I'm just going to try to incorporate

some of their suggestions into their diet. The first week says to figure out

your daily calories, which I have already done anyway, so I'm one step ahead

<G>. The second week says to make water your main drink...yikes that part I

could use help with, I'm a diet coke addict.

Stick with what works for you and just incorporate what you can into the

challenge. I figure my diet can always use a little tweaking and sometimes I

need the extra motivation.

I was going to start on March 1st but then read it suggested you start on a

Monday and was having a low motivation day yesterday <G>. So I ended up

starting yesterday.

Thanks for the tips! I appreciate it. I actually ran to Target at lunch

today and found 3 Voight tapes 2 for 6.99 each and a 2-set for 9.99

that have some yoga, stretching and strength in them. They only got mediocre

reviews on www.videofitness.com, but for $6.99 the price was right and I've

heard a lot of positive things about Voight.

I think I'll add some of the stretching to my Taebo tapes. The cool downs

that does are really hard on my neck because he always has your arms

out in front of you while you stretch and it puts a strain on my neck so

I've been looking for something to do instead of that part.

I'm going to do my own little challenge with all of you SELF challengers.

For the next month, starting tomorrow, I'm not going to eat any desserts at

work. I've gotten into a bad, bad habit of jumping on the " treats " that

people bring into work (like cake, brownies, ... ). It probably has to do

with the fact that I'm drinking coffee again and I feel like I need something

to fill my stomach. For the next month, if I feel tempted, I'm going to have

a Luna bar or nothing. Thanks for letting me post my challenge. It will

help me feel accountable.

I'm hoping to get the magazine today. I'll look thru it and might join you

all Monday if that's ok?

.....All flesh is grass, and all it's loveliness is like the flower of the

field.

The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the Lord blows upon

it;

Surely the people are grass.

The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.

No you won't be behind all of us. I have to start next Monday also for

" organizational reasons "
