If your brother cannot treat there are supplements that help heal the liver--and

would be good for him until he treats if that is what he can do. I can send you

all the info on the supplements and info on Dr Berkson, who treats liver disease

with supplements. He is well known and respected. Several people on this forum

have been to see him. Please email me direct if you want the info I have.

Oddly, the supplements are also being considered helpful for MS. I will send

several pages to you on both the doctor and the supplements and the doctor's

credentials.

By the way, I live just up the road a piece--near Hillsboro off I 35--in

Whitney Texas.

sow sodium diet is not a sometimetimes thing and tell them places they could go

to eat out. They usually eat out at least once a week. She told me that she

does not believe will get a liver transplant because of other problems.

The doctors still don't know if he also has MS or not. With Hep C Stage 4 and

Cirrosis of the Liver, how long does a person usually live without treatment for

Hep C? Do they treat Hep C prior to liver transplant if the patient also has

cirrosis of the liver? also has an enlarged spleen.

Hi Bob,

My viral load has always been low, below 100,000. In fact, in 2007, it was as

low as 900, and that was when my cirrhosis first became decompensated, and I was

in liver failure. I don't know why my liver became so damaged and failed with

such low viral loads. It works different with everybody. Decompensated

cirrhosis is when you have ascites (fluid in belly), esophagal varices,

confusion, jaundice, which means your liver isn't functioning as it should and

is failing. I had all that plus portal hypertension.

My new liver is doing great. I haven't had any problems or rejections since the

transplant, thank God. My AST and ALT are 26 and 32 now since I'm on treatment.

They were always in the 100's and 200's before but my viral load was low...go

figure!

The treatment isn't bad for me besides the red blood cell counts dropping even

though I get the shot to keep them up. I'm mostly just tired, but feel better

for a while after the transfusions. I do seem to be getting more headaches

lately, though. I've had three blood transfusions in the last three months, and

getting a little tired of getting them. I am now down to 3 Ribavirin pills a

day to see if that will help my blood counts stay up. I don't know for sure,

but I will probably have to extend the length of time of my treatment if I can

only take 3 pills a day.

I'm glad you're finished with treatment and hope you stay undetected.

Penny

>

> hi Penny. you have been through so much the last couple of years. when you got

your transplant in jan '08 why did your viral count seem so low? mine was

7,500,000 and my liver numbers were just a little above normal. is it because

your old liver just gave up trying? is that de-compensating? how is your new

liver? i know treatment is a drag but how are you feeling?

It sounds like his cirrhosis may be decompensated. I was first diagnosed with

cirrhosis in 2004, and in liver failure in August 2007, on the transplant list

on December 5, 2007, and transplant on January 6, 2008. I also had an enlarged

spleen, and was drained of the fluid in my abdomen three times...each time about

7 litres. I also was restricted on my sodium intake, and took diuretics, but

none of that helped anymore since my liver was failing.

I hope your brother's cirrhosis doesn't progress too quickly.

I do remember you and so great to know that you were able to

finish treatment and remain clear!

I know it has been awhile since I have been in this group but I still do not have a computer so I do what I can on my cell phone. For those of you who do not know me my name is and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am 33 yrs old have been married for 6 yrs to my husband Russ. We have a 5 yr old son. I also have an 11 yr old son and 20 yr old stepson. I found out I had hep c in 2001 and was suppose to do treatment for 6 months but did it for 3 months due to financial reasons. In Feb of this yr had to do treatments again for 24 wks and had help paying for my meds. My last shot was in June. I just went for my 6 month checkup and I am hep c free. I feel great. For those of you that have facebook feel free to look me up and ask me to add you as a friend. I am under stephanie gibbs. There should be a pic of me with short dark hair wearing glasses and have on a black and white dress shirt. Hope to get to add

u.

Thanks Sheena.

I've been keeping busy for the most part.

Mainly dealing with going to a behavioral-health progran 3 times a week, and I'm

learning more-healthy coping skills there and things.

Just keep taking my meds etc.

Hi ,

Good to hear from you again.

So glad that hubby now has an appointment with a Hepatologist.

Whatever tests were not run should then be taken care of.. and

with full disclosure..

Does your husband have an ulcer?

You might find this website helpful:

Hang in, it will all come together soon,

Hi all,First off, I would like to thank all of you who have given us advice and given us the support that we needed to decide that we will fight this thing! I apologize if i emailed back to you all individually and did not post on here...I was a bit confused and dazed the last 2 weeks since my hubby's diagnosis...Here's the update...we made an appointment with a hepatologist. ..unfortunately the appt is not until June, but in the meantime, i have a question if there is anyone out there that is knowledgable with reading blood documents (my hubby's PCP is a joke)...so he was diagnosed positive for Hep C...then there is another score that says 1.36 H reactive which is highlighted in bold. Does anyone know what that means and is that a good or a bad thing...The one thing the dumb doctor did tell my hubby is that his liver counts were good...Thanks again everyone...i have never met a more positive group before in my life and I am so

glad i found this group!

Sharon,

My girl found so much comfort in horse back riding. I would look all over

the place for a " free " lease. Someone wanting her horse to have attention,

but not having to pay the costs. There are MANY opportunities.....the

grooming alone calms my dd so much!!!!

what a great tip!  I will look into it!  Thanks!  The lessons are pricey!

My sister started her out, but I have been paying for them now.  Not cheap! She

rode today and I dont think she asked for reassurance all day!!!

It's great to see their confidence grow with some success and how it can spill

over to battling OCD. I know reminding them that most kids have the " butterfly

stomachs " and worries the first day of school doesn't help, but I used to tell

my sons that, and that by the 3rd or 4th day things would be so routine it would

settle down.

Lunch is a big deal for having friends, more if the setting is you can sit

anywhere (not with class). But I also told my sons that some of my best friends

growing up were the ones I met in classes where it started that I didn't know

anyone or have a close friend. As the semester/year goes on, friendships can

develop.

We talk about butterflies in the belly and dd has always said, most kids have

butterflies, she has elephants in her belly.  Good description.  :)

The first 2 days of school were great.  Dd got up, got ready, did not hide,

cry, or lock herself in the bathroom.  She went out to the bus happy.  :)  I

helped out at school a bit and she did great.  2 days went wonderfully, her

teacher said she was doing great.  Yesterday it took a turn for the worse.

She cried for 2 hours after school - she has no friends, she doesnt like anyone

in the class, she has no one to sit with at lunch (must sit with your class), no

one to play with at recess, no one to be partners with so she is sure she will

be partnered witha dumb boy, etc, etc, etc.  Hopefully it will go better

today.  I sent an email to her teacher (she has been GREAT with communication

already!), to let her know.  I dont know what to do.  I tried asking her if

she wanted to set up playdates with some girls in her class, to get to know them

better, and she says they are all mean and she doesnt want to be friends with

them.  <sigh> My heart

was breaking.  Not sure what to do!!!!  She wants her BFFs to be switched to

her class, NOT an option, but that is HER only solution to this.  :(

Sharon, hope it does get better for your dd at school. I remember those

Maybe later she might notice another girl in there who seems to be in the same

I wish our girls went to the same school. My dd would love to sit and share her

feelings with your dd at lunch. They would be BFFs.

I feel your pain. I have so much anxiety myself when school starts. I cringe

when I ask her about her day because I know how hard it was for her. In addition

to the mean girls, my dd has to be concerned with all of her obsessions, am I

breathing, is my heart still beating, am I going to faint, will there be a

tornado...

On a positive, I can't think of a more empathetic child. I am truly proud of

her. I would rather have a child like her than a child that doesn't care about

the pain they cause another child with their actions.

Aw, that is sweet.  My dd has the EXACT same worries.  And she is very

empathetic, too.  She is so emotional and sensitive and SO worried about her -

or others - feeling getting hurt (that it the worst thing for her!).  She

assumes everyone feels the same way she does.  She takes everything so

personally.  We talked a lot this weekend about how one may perceive things

(words, actions, tone of voice) differently than the person intended, and we

talked about looking for clues to see what they really meant.  We talked a lot

about conversation starters and how to scope out the lunch table or playground

to find the best place to sit or play and to look for someone that might be in

her boat, too.  I was concerned about how the year would go, but the first 2

days could not have been better!  Then reality hit.  We will see how this week

goes and hope for the best.

Thanks.  That is what I am hoping.

I think we are dealing with some early puberty things, too.  Horray horray.

SHe is already so emotional and dramatic, we have been afraid of what happens

when puberty hits!  She is 10 and is getting little boobs, starting to get

pubic hair, under arm hair, and hairier legs.  Puberty hit me late, but dh very

early and she takes after him in so many other areas, of course has to take

after him in this.  We have talked about all the changes that will happen to

our body as we grow, so I think she is prepared.  SHe is a little grossed out

by pubic hair, but will be ok with it.

About 2 weeks ago, we did have the sex talk.  She flat out asked me some

questions that I could not avoid, sugar coat, or answer like I could when she

was younger.  I talked to both dds at the same time, other dd is 8.  My 8 yr

old told me she is going to adopt a baby because all that seems too gross and

having a baby seems to painful and she knows there are babies that dont have

homes.  :)  My ocder asked a lot of good questions, has continued to ask a

couple of questions.  But she has not become obsessed with it, so that is

great!  She didnt like the sound of things, but accepted it.   She was most

happen when I told her it is all your CHOICE you dont have to ever have sex or

have a baby!  She is never going to do either, she says.  :)

She is in therapy and it is going well, so far.  Hopefully it continues to get

better.  Today she said her tummy hurt at the bus stop and she thought she was

going to throw up.  I am sure it was anxiety.

One thing she is handling well is, we have lice.  When she first heard of lice,

she was freaked out.  Now she understands more and isnt too worried about it.

She has figured out it is a major annoyance!  OMG it is awful!!!!!!  Both my

girls and myself have it.  UGH!  We have been treating it (and our home) since

Saturday morning.  I THINK we have it under control, but it is such a pain and

a big job!  I am trying to keep my stress and complaints to myself!  She has

not freaked out about it, just says she is sick of washing her hair - so am I!

Sounds a lot like social anxiety disorder....it can be treated with exposure and

CBT, but untreated, it can be difficult due to the avoidance behaviors....we're

dealing with this at our house.
