Patti,

I've heard of Lecithin but had no idea what it was or how to use it until I

found a recipe for homemade cinnamon rolls in a King Arthur flour catalog.

The recipes calls for Lecithin and I ordered a package of it by mail. It's

a grainy substance a little like cream of rice in texture. How is it

supposed to be taken? It sounds like it has many of the same properties as

the mysterious SAMe that I'm hoping to learn more about. I've read

numerous articles about it and so far, none of them have been negative.

It's only recently become available in the US but has been highly

prescribed in Europe for about 16 years (where it's available by

prescription only). I wonder if it's the same thing as Lecithin but

considerably more expensive?

Take care,

Geri

nne,

Apple pectin powder, vitamin C, Vitamin E, Lecithin, flax oil, oatmeal, L-Carnitine, of course juicing fresh.....will all help to lower cholesterol.

Some people are just more prone to this than others (i am for one). If I can think of anything else I will let you know.

oh--also, EXERCISE!~

So, I see concern, I just hope it's enough to get this going.

Hi nne,

Oatmeal will definitely help about 1/2 cup of uncooked oats per serving. Also garlic will help lower it. I take the Kwai tablets and they are small enough that a child shouldn't have problems swallowing them. I hope this helps.

Try omega 3's and 6's...in large doses to start. Grapeseed oil is

also good.

Good luck,

You might try giving her lots of bran muffins since they taste great

and kids are always snacking. Back in the 80s I had IBS and high

cholesterol and bran muffins cured both ailments. It seems like it

was somewhere around 225 and the bran brought it down to 180.

I would caution you to use this.....I have learned that our liver produces all the cholesterol we need on a daily basis, and muffins use eggs which are loaded with cholesterol, plus oil that will be heated to a high temp. when these muffins are baked.....that's two no-no's in one. Cooked oil and eggs.

Any oil we eat should **NOT** be heated. None of it. So I might not offer these bran muffins even though they are made of bran.

One thing I might suggest nne, is to have the mother of the child buy some of Ann Wigmore's books. She has many recipes for raw foods like pies, soups, main dishes, all kinds of stuff and they taste pretty good.

Hope this helps. No offense to whoever posted about the bran muffins.

CoQ10 is expensive, but been proven to help to fight the side effects of

statin-type drugs, and is also used to help COPD. Dosages range from 300-600 mg.

or as directed by a knowledgeable, open-minded physician.

Well, my doctor has prescribed a cholesterol lowering medication. Do you think

that oatmeal and garlic will do the job? Anybody have any suggestions? I

already do 30 min. of aerobic exercises almost daily and walk 1 & 1/2 miles

daily. I eat a lot of salads and very little red meat.

Also , as stated before, my husband has COPD

Spend some time with Dr. Atkins. It might be the answer for you regardless of whether you need to lose or gain weight. The cholesterol drug will go down in history as the biggest scam of the 90's. It took 20 years to reveal the low fat scam but the drug companies are behind this one so it'll probably take longer.

My suggestion is you read up on how eating HI FAT (the right kind of fats, esp

hi Omega 3 in fish oils and flax, avacado & olive oils), HI PROTEIN and

absolutely low, low LOW CARBS is the best real answer for your cholesterol.

Statin drugs will do a major number on your liver and your liver won't like it!

Sounds like your doctor is giving you the " standard " allopathic stuff that is

obviously not working for you. Your daily exercising sounds good and you are

obviously motivated to do your part in helping yourself. Hope you'll read up on

this subject seeing where the standard of low fat, hi carb is a real killer when

it comes to many illnesses.

Good luck!

Most, or the biggest part of the problem with muscles and the meds. is the loss

of CoQ10.

Steve

--------------------------------------------------------------

PLEASE....... LOOK INTO THE MEDICATION the doctor is prescribing for your high

cholesterol!

My cholestrol was over 400 (I was only 29) & my doctor put me on medication at

first I thought I was pregnant because I was constaly feeling sick & could

hardly keep my eyes open. I realized that the symptoms coincided with me taking

the medication. I stopped & called the doctor to ask. The response I got was

that was a fairy typical side effect. They lowered the dosage & would bring it

back up. The same thing happened again.

After that I looked into what the medications are designed to do and in short

after reading all the information I could find I went to the medcine cabinet &

threw out the medicine. Basically the medicine they prescribed me not only had

the side effects I described above but there were also issue with muscle

control. My thought was....if they are concerned about my heart why give me

medicine that causes problems with muscles (umm...the heart is a muscle).

Anyways, check it out. I have lowered my cholestrol to around 234 on my last

check. I don't know if it was the cleanses, zapping, colidial silver, changing

my diet, taking the medication for the 3 weeks or what. I do know that I refuse

to ever get on the medication for high cholestrol again and am starting to

document what I am doing & what is happening with me health.

LOOK INTO THE LITERATURE & SEE IF YOU WANT TO TAKE THE RISK OF HIGH CHOLESTROL

OR THE ALL THE OTHER " SYMPTOMS " OF THE MEDICATION!

You need to get free T3 and free T4 done. TSH might tell you

something--most docs undertreat. If you want your cholesterol #s to look

normal, you should take Armour thyroid, which has more than T4 in it.

Don't avoid fat and cholesterol (according to Schwarzbein Principle, low fat

and low cholesterol diets make the body go into overdrive). Look for a

different doc http://www.geocities.com/thyroide

First, don't worry about your cholesterol numbers. They themselves are not

important. Second, stop snacking, and in order to avoid problem hunger,

cut your carbs somewhat and boost your saturated fat intake. That's really

all there is to it!

I would seek out antifungal foods. The apple cider vinegar is good

(is it raw? it should be) and so is the coconut oil, but the amount

of fruit you're getting and the bread (what's in your bread?) for

snacks counteracts the benefits of the coconut oil and apple cider

vinegar.

I would try to have lactofermented veggies frequently (e.g.

sauerkraut, nonpasteurized, traditionally made), and other

lactofermented foods like yogurt, kefir...maybe true sourdough bread

if I had to have grain food. Otherwise, I would cut out the grain

foods for a while. Or if I had them, I would have them with plenty

of butter or other high-natural-fat spread.

Do you have any other fungal symptoms other than the proctitis?

Toenail fungus? Skin conditions?

I would try to make sure I got plenty of minerals--especially zinc

and magnesium. I would try to make sure I got my meat with its

attached fat, and use more _organ meats_. I would use bone broths

(or soups made with them).

I would try to make sure I got enough natural vitamin C. Bell

peppers are a good source (especially red ones). So is traditional

sauerkraut.

I would avoid soy, fluoride, and antibiotics.

Coffee is antifungal. I can see a difference in the nature of my

stools when I'm drinking coffee vs. when I'm not drinking coffee.

Are you a coffee drinker?

Do you have any blood sugar issues? Emotional stress?

Do you need to gain or lose weight?

You don't drink soda, right?

Are you taking any supplements?

P.S. I agree that we should not be afraid of so-called " high "

cholesterol numbers.

Sunny,

Mine too. Just keeps climbing, I changed to a healthy eating way of

life even lost 10 lbs. I did get my doctor to prescribe a powder

called cholestyramine generic for questran light, It is suppose to

lower your cholesterol but guess what also pulls toxins out. Got off

one of the sites for detoxing the silicone out, can't rmember which

Dr.s site it was on, I just told my Dr. I needed it for the

cholesterol and it helped to bind the toxins and pull them out. You

mix it with water or juice. It is a little gritty but not bad I am

going to be on it a few months I will let you know if it helps.

I'll add that my cholesterol has climbed in the last few years, even though we eat a healthy diet, and not much meat. When we do eat meat, it is usually wild game, which has a higher ration of the good fats (Omega 3's) than the bad ones. My husbands cholesterol remains low. Mine is the only one to go up, and I think it is around 240 right now. I think it is probably related to the fact that my thyroid is messed up after implants.

Dearest Lynda:

I am so sorry that you had a bad fall. This is awful that this has happened to you just before your trip. Please be careful, and make sure that you have a doctor check you out before you leave.

Have a wonderful time and a good rest. Our son and his wife are in Maui right now. They have a time-share condo that they share with other lawyers. We have never been there, but they keep asking us to go. They take our grandchildren out of school temporarily when they go there. It would be great to have the children show us one of their favourite places...one day this might happen.

Thank you for all the support that you are giving to this group.

Sending love to you.......Lea

Re: High Cholesterol

Yes, I am anxious to get out of this cold, cold weather. It is the head injury that was the most worrisome, and I have a large goose egg on my head. I certainly saw stars when I hit.I think that it is a mild concussion, however, so in a few days I will be fine.My sister is near St. Louis, and they have terrible ice storms there. Hopefully leaving by tomorrow, as she is leaving on Tues. for Hawaii. If she can get out of St. Louis.LyndaAt 07:15 PM 1/14/2007, you wrote:>So sorry to hear you fell and sprained your wrist Lynda!
