very good Harry! Love that you ate 1 glucose tablet and didn't spike your

bgs. Ya know, the old doc pops says drink juice, eat candy, and all those

foods that will cause you to have a 3 hour post spike shooting your sugar

into the 300 range. What is great is to see that you were 53, controled the

urge to benge eat because of the shakes, had a very low sugar, and ate a

*single* 4 gram carb glucose tablet and it raised you to 76 and you didn't

go into the 300 range. Ah... makes me smile! I love it!

Merry Christmas!

On August 25 of this year started this message thread entitled advice

for Harry. Well, I appreciate his doing this and all the good advice I have

received from my fellow listers. It has taken me a good three months to get

my glucose levels regulated to the point that I now have excellent lab

results with A1C of 5.7 and for the first time in my life as far back as I

can remember about my lab tests in the past, I have achieved all normal

readings for my lab tests for the first time in my life. I thank all of you

for helping me count carbohydrates, dose insulin properly, and probably save

my leg from amputation due to numerous infections. I have this week had

another boil appear on my leg, but I am watching it closely and using

antibiotic ointment several times a day on it. I will not hesitate to

contact my physician to have him prescribe some oral antibiotics should a

second or third boil appear. I will not wait until I have six boils on my

leg to take medical action like I did the last time I had this problem. Nor

will I accept the doctor's observation that those boils/carbuncles are what

most diabetics get and then just ignore oral antibiotics for treating them.

Four months have passed since the first appearance of this thread, but I

think I have got it now! While this thread may appear again in the future,

it will not be a frequent post. Once again I thank you for showing me a

better way.

Hey glad you got it down Harry. Just remember to take your lantus *smile*.

BTW your sugars probably stay at around 112 or in the 100 range because your

pancreas is probably still slightly working and releasing some insulin

between meals but very little. A 100% type 1 diabetic, like myself, if I

forget my lantus/long acting my sugars, even with using humalog, would be in

the 200 or higher range. If you still do have some working beta cells, this

is great! If they come out for a cure for type 2 you could be eligible. I

hear the type 2 cure is about 5 years away and they have successfully cured

type 2 diabetes in pigs and are wanting to move that research over to humans

in the next 5 years. Heard this over the summer from a diabetic specialist

over in indiana who has been really reading up on this research.

Well, Harry

You were the one who did it! Lots of people can give advice, but if a

person does not follow it, it will not do any good! congrats, and you

really should call the doctor even when only one boil appears. Why let it

spread?
