Guest guest
you and that dinner Harry! Your gunna get it! LOL just kidding... hey, if all you ate were slow acting veggie carbs like green beans, don't take a unit for them. If you ate an entire can of green beans extra, then yes, take 1 unit of H but for a little extra green beans, or any slow acting veggie, don't bother. Guest guest
nice harry! Seen that 4 unit of H at dinner drop you back down. I think 4 units lower you like 40 or so points but keep playing with that. Guest guest
Harry, lets go for it! For lunch, I want you to eat 30 grams of carbs and up your humalog to 14 to see if it covers 30 grams of carbs. Do this at lunch, but keep your breakfast and dinner all at 15 for now covering with the 7 H. In other words, we don't want to do to much to soon. Lets see how your body handles 30 grams of carbs at lunch tomorrow! If you don't want to, that is fine, but I would love to see if 14 H covers it doubling up our dose for the additional 15 grams! If you do this, get checked 1 hour, 2 hour, and 3 hour post tests after eating lunch to watch what happens. Guest guest
Your guess about my wife not being available to test my blood sugar was correct. Secondly, I figure that my Humalog to grams of carbohydrates consumed if around 1:2 then 37 grams of carbs divided by 2 would be 18 units of Humalog. Actually it would have been 18.5, but I am conservative, so I rounded it off to 18 instead of 19. Guest guest
look at breakfast though, for example. You take 7 units of H for 15 grams of carbs to be 85 2 hours later. That is not exactly 1 unit of H per 2 grams of carbs. I think you might be best to use 7 units harry like we have calculated for the past 5 days instead of trying to break it down farther. In other words, 7 for 15, 14 for 30, etc. and keep your meals around 30 grams etc. Just IMO... you experiment to much smiles. regards, Re: advice for Harry > > > > > > > 9/30/2003 > > > > > > Last night: > > > > > > G 93 > > > > > > Glass of wine for a nightcap > > > > > > Lantus 15 > > > > > > Breakfast: > > > > > > G 87 > > > > > > C 15 > > > > > > H 7 > > > > > > Two hours post Breakfast: > > > > > > G 109 > > > > > > Lunch: > > > > > > G 121 (I haven't eaten any thing since breakfast. Guest guest
your changing the equation again Harry. You have to use numbers that you know work and don't change them. For example, here is what might have worked a little better for breakfast: G 122 ** you changed this carb grams variable to 12 instead of keeping it 15 since we know 7 units of H covers 15 grams. C 12 should have been c 15 *** notice H 9 you took below which is not at all following the numbers we have clearly outlined that works for you. I.E 4 units of H drops your bgs about 30 to 40 points. Also, 7 units of H covers 15 grams of carbs. So, you could have stuck with numbers that you know work and ate 15 grams and took 11 units of H and your 2 hour post test would have been 85 to 90. H 9 IMO you need to stick with what you know works man and not adjust the variables or your going to get off track just like last time man... regards, Re: advice for Harry > 10/1/2003 > > Last night: > > G 75 > > Ate a handful of nuts. > > Lantus 15 > > Breakfast: > > G 122 > > C 12 > > H 9 > > Two hours post Breakfast: > > G 115 > >
Guest guest
Hypothetically speaking, if I were to consume only 6 carbs for breakfast, then would I consider this 6 carbs as 15 carbs for the first dose of Humalog or 7 units of Humalog? Re: advice for Harry > > > > 10/1/2003 > > > > Last night: > > > > G 75 > > > > Ate a handful of nuts. > > > > Lantus 15 > > > > Breakfast: > > > > G 122 > > > > C 12 > > > > H 9 > > > > Two hours post Breakfast: > > > > G 115 > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
So, once one finds something that works, then they should not change the equation? I already know the shape of the equation is not a linear one, but just how much does it curve? Only by experimenting will I know. So for breakfast in the morning, if my glucose level is near my goal of 90, I will consume 6 carbs and dose for 15 carbs or in other words I will take 7 units of Humalog for the 6 carbs consumed. Then, let's see what happens. Guest guest
Harry, when it comes to diabetes, yes, when you find something that works you should not change the equation. Diabetes is a very very difficult disease to get under control and once you have done that with a specific equation, you should not adjust it unless *absolutely necessary* IMO. regards, Re: advice for Harry > > > > > > > > > > > > > 10/1/2003 > > > > > > > > > > Last night: > > > > > > > > > > G 75 > > > > > > > > > > Ate a handful of nuts. > > > > > > > > > > Lantus 15 > > > > > > > > > > Breakfast: > > > > > > > > > > G 122 > > > > > > > > > > C 12 > > > > > > > > > > H 9 > > > > > > > > > > Two hours post Breakfast: > > > > > > > > > > G 115 > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
IMO stick with the 15 grams/7 H tomorrow so you can get your body back to normal ... and use the 4 H to tackle high bgs to drop you 30 points... after tomorrow you should be back to normal bgs ranges. Guest guest
good job Harry. You know, you may have to stick at 15 grams per meal if you get unpredictable results at higher values. I.E when you started trying 30 grams the crap hit the fan so maybe 15 grams is your limit for tight bgs control per meal. Everyone has a limit. Mine is 30 grams. If I eat more than that per meal, I get unpredictable results and run high or low from taking to much humalog or my insulin to carb ratios just aren't working as well past 30 grams etc. Right at 30 grams per meal, I'm cool. Everyone's carb grams per meal limit is a YMMV issue. regards, Re: advice for Harry > 10/8/2003 > > Last night: > > Two hours post supper: > > G 97 > > Lantus 15 Did not use a new insulin vile of Lantus, since the old one was > just fine and had an expiration date in 2005, when kept refrigerated, which > I do. > > Celebrated by eating nuts. > > Fasting blood sugar today: > > G 112 > > Skipped breakfast, since I slept in late and was not hungry. > > Lunch: > > G 133 > > C 15 > > H 13 > > Two hours post lunch: > > G 79 > >
Guest guest
I will try once again consuming 30 grams of carbs at a meal and doubling my Humalog to see if I can maintain close control. It would be nice if I can, since a hamburger in a bun with lettuce and tomato and onion, one of my delights, contains around 30 grams of carbs. I hope I can eat a hamburger from time to time. Any way I won't try this experiment until I have at least four or five days of tight glucose control with a maximum of 15-17 grams of carbs per meal. Re: advice for Harry > good job Harry. Guest guest
you know harry, you could eat an open face hamburger... pitch the top bun and then cut the carb count in half. I do this myself, just a suggestion... Re: advice for Harry > > > > good job Harry. You know, you may have to stick at 15 grams per meal if > you > > get unpredictable results at higher values.
