Hi Harry.

For lunch, why did you put c 15? with the question mark after 15. Good job

geting the bgs down! Try to determine if 4 units lower your bgs x points

over the next few days. Perhaps 4 units lowers your bgs only 40 or so

points?

not certain if you had it in a bag but always purchase bread in a bag since

it shows the carb grams accurate and I always round up. I.E if it is 12, I

say 15. If it is 22, I say 25. If it is 27, I say 30. I don't say 30 if it

is 23 etc. I just up it a few points if it is like 2 or 3 from the next

number up.

I think you got it down Harry! Great job man! Hahaha! It took you only about

1.5 weeks or so and can you imagine if you had to do this with your doctor

seeing him only every two weeks how long it would have taken? Hats off to

Harry and lots of applause from . Good job my friend!

Yes, I think I have it now. All I had to do was to follow your advice and

's advice and stop experimenting and stick to the same number of

carbohydrates consumed at each meal and regulate dosage of Humalog

accordingly. It turns out in my case that the dose of Humalog to Carb is

almost a 1:2 relationship, since I also have insulin resistance. So in my

case it takes one unit of Humalog for every two grams of Carbohydrates

consumed. In a few days I will try doubling the Carb intake and the Humalog

intake to see if 14 units of Humalog will handle 30 grams of carbs.

I really do thank you for your support and encouragement. It was very

helpful in assisting me to get to a good blood glucose level.

Your quite welcome Harry. You are a success story of someone who has great

determination and have shown every single person on this list that it is

very possible to get your blood sugars under control in a short time by

exercising discipline and doing what you know to do. By you exercising your

will to control this disease Harry, you will control it, and it will not

control you! Good job! I have been telling all my diabetic friends about you

and they are so excited to hear about you.

Yes, in a few days, feel free to try eating 30 grams of carbs at a meal.

Like I stated earlier, I'd say to only do this starting at lunch and see the

results. Don't do it for every meal since your body may freak out at it

smiles. If 30 grams at lunch work out for you, then do 30 grams for lunch

for like 3 days at 30 grams to see if you can maintain good results. If

lunch is good after three days at 30 grams, then do dinner at 30 grams and

test that for 3 days as well. I would suggest to keep your breakfast at 15

grams all the time since that liver is dumping sugar and if you got your bgs

under control in the morning at 15 grams, don't screw with it!! People I

know would kill for your morning sugars Harry. The morning sugars are very

hard to get under control so again, don't screw with that man. You have had

it pretty easy getting your morning bgs under control and I know diabetics

who have tried this going on 8 months now with minimal success yet.

Please, as you test each day, please post your results since they are very

encouraging to me and others. Thanks for keeping us updated with your

testing results.

hats off to Harry!

BTW I know many others on the list are doing what Harry is doing but only

lurking so hats off to you as well!

regards,

Harry.

one thing you'll find out is that you can't master this all the time, only

90% of the time. However, I'd like to point out that you had wine prior to

bed which is the only change in the equation that I can see. That could have

caused this effect with your body a YMMV issue. Don't drink the wine tonight

prior to bed, drink the can of beer you normally have, and see how it goes

tomorrow. Again, this just may be a YMMV issue.

A few things here Harry. First, why did you skip your 2 hour test after

eating 30 grams for lunch? Since that was your first attempt at it, I think

it was quite crucial to test 2 hours past eating that 30 grams for the first

time. Unless, of course, your wife wasn't around to help you test so that

would explain skipping it. Secondly, for dinner, your sugar was 87 and you

ate 37 grams of carbs for dinner. That should have been 14 units of H since

7 grams past 30 isn't that much. I seen you took 18 units of H to cover 37

grams of carbs and noticed you were lower at 75 bgs 2 hours past dinner. I

predict that was some guess work in taking 18 H to cover 37 grams of carbs

instead of 14 H to cover the 37 grams of carbs but could be wrong. Can you

show me how you calculated mathematically 18 units of H to cover 37 grams of

carbs for dinner?

Trying to make sense here. 7 for 15 and 14 for 30 is almost a 1 to 2 ratio,

isn't it?

my point is what you stated *almost* but it is not. I.E 7 times 2 is 14, not

15, and 14 times 2 is 28, not 30 etc. Yes, they are very close but really

all I am saying is stick to what works. We were not doing 1 to 2 ratios at

all we were doing 7 units of H per 15 grams an that figure worked perfectly

for you. In other words, stick to what you know works and don't veer from it

IMO... but hey, I'm just stating IMO...

that's the problem Harry, you hypothesize to much and veer off what you know

works and start trying little experiments. Those little experiments are

gunna get you off the straight and narrow. I'd encourage you to not do that

if possible smiles. Must be your psych training hehehehe

try uping your lantus to 16 this evening since your morning went up to 107

and 2 hours past eating breakfast you were going up and that 7 humalog

should have covered it perfectly. If you do decide to up the lantus to 16

this evening, for each meal, stick to 15 grams and 7 units of H to cover it

and that should bring you in range 2 hours past eating.

Harry inspite of the infection you are fighting on the leg, your bgs are

doing quite well. Most would be in the 200 range so keep on keeping on.

Last night:

Two hours post supper:

G 133

I forgot to calculate the additional grams of carbs with my ten ounces of

wine and a handful of nuts just prior to supper, so my Humalog dose was

insufficient. Oh well, I will have to count better tomorrow and dose

accordingly.

Hi Harry.

You have your lantus at 19 last check. To adjust lantus, it goes like this:

* take lantus at same time each evening, don't vary on the time you take it

* fasting bgs must be 80 to 100

* eat 5 to 10 grams of *non-quick* acting carbs, like a can of green beans 8

grams.

* test 1 hour later see if is under a 20 point increase

* test 2 hours later see if is under a 20 point increase

* test three hours later see if you are coming back down to 80/100 range

* by next meal should be 80 to 100

* do this for lunch and dinner as well... 1 can of green beans 8 slow acting

carbs and watch if the lantus keeps it down.

* after doing this test for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, study the pattern

and see if it is working. If it is not, then increase the lantus

accordingly. However, you may just have to wing it since I don't think for a

second day of testing you will want to eat 3 cans of green beans only again?

If you do, that is fine, however, by studying this the first time, you will

get a rough/pretty good idea of how much to increase it. Once the lantus is

able to keep down your bgs 80 to 100 range pre meals, then you got your

lantus good and then adjust the humalog. However, your doing this way to

early IMO you still have slight infection in your body so your not going to

get accurate results and you'll have to readjust ratios again once the

infection is fully gone. I'm certain you won't listen LOL but hey, that's

our Harry for ya smiles. It will take probably about 2 months past it being

gone for you to accurately adjust this stuff so I'd say don't put to much

into it right now but that is your call.

cheers
