Last night:

Two hours post supper:

I figure Humalog dose was too high for c 15.

Ate some nuts about 14 carbs worth.

Lantus increased to 22 units.

Today:

G 156

Instead of eating nuts last night, I think I should have eaten a glucose

tablet.

ok but just remember, you have to be 80 to 100 fasting in the morning before

doing this so it is accurate. If you are higher than 100, the test will not

be accurate. It would be best if you were close to 80. If you are a little

under that I'm sure that would be ok as well. Basically, you have to start

at a low sugar range, normal range, so you cna really see how much 8 slow

acting carbs increases your bgs.

Welcome back, Harry! I see your Lantis dosage went up. Was this due to the

trip? I am going on a short cruise in about a month and hope I can manage

to keep the insulin dosage the same!

No, I did not increase my Lantus dosage while on the cruise. Actually, I

increased the dose about a week before I went on the cruise. I am thinking

about getting tighter control in the target of 90 plus or minus 20 points on

my glucose readings, but I haven't achieved this yet. I am thinking about

increasing my Lantus to 25 or 26 units at night, but I am not in a hurry to

do this. I just completed my second round of antibiotics for that leg

infection, which appears to be mostly healed at this point except for a

couple of tender spots still remaining. I will watch these healing sores

closely to see if they continue to heal without getting a third prescription

for antibiotics, which I hope will be unnecessary.

I gained six pounds in a seven day cruise, which is almost a pound per day.

I would suggest having more sex instead of food.

Hi .

Welcome back! Good job on the sugars below. Hope your cruise was fun. Can

you share with us what you were able to eat on the cruise that was low carb?

I'm curious to know since I may take a cruise some day. BTW notice that your

sugars are raising after your 2 hour post test. This should not be. Do you

still have a slight infection on the legs? If so, that may be what is going

on? If not, up your lantus to 25. If your 2 hour post meal test is 95, for

example, then your pre meal sugar should be 95 or less, not raise up to 110

for example. However, I'm just nit picking, it overall really really looks

good man! so leave it be if you want *smile*. Good job and welcome back!

ah I just got to this one... you do have some infection left in there. Be as

aggressive as you possibly can man! A *slight* infection can cost you your

leg. Call another doc and perhaps a different anti-biotic would help finish

that off?

WAYNE, SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE LOW BLOOD SUGAR PROBLEM. How are your

kidneys? the reason I knew my kidneys had started going was because I had

become so sensitive to my insulin. also, the 70-30 kind is not always good

to use as you may not need the 30 percent of the fast acting kind. It is

better to be on 2 shots as needed. usually docs will put you on a certain

number of N and then on either H or R as the fast acting as needed. I am on

H in my pump and usually need less than 15 units a day totally because of

the decreased kidney function. If the doc put you on Lantis and you were

running such lows, did he decrease the Lantis? If so how many units were

you on?

also, how are you getting along now that you are home? have they been able

to fit you with a prostheses? sure am glad your friend came along! Are

your lows always in the morning or exactly when are they? It really sounds

like you need a lot less insulin. Is your doc a diabetic specialist? I

have real anxiety attacks when I hear about the problems you and others like

you are having with lows. At least with highs, you are not in danger of

leaving this world!

Let us know how you are doing and it is nice to see you back on the

computer.

OOOH! My husband would really like your advice!

also, Harry, you should have your doc look at the leg before you decide

whether or not you need furhter antibiotic treatment. Much better to be

safe than sorry. If you wait to see if the leg is going to heal, you could

end up with a worse infection.

glad you had a good time!

cool! I can't wait to hear it man! Listen, even if it is not 5.0 you should

be happy. I know you are a perfectionist Harry LOL so whatever you score on

this a1c, it will be good! and you should be proud of yourself for attaining

it even if it is not a 5.0.

for those reading this for the first time, g means blood sugar shown on the

meter, H means humalog insulin and how many units harry took to cover the

carbs and C stands for carb grams ate for the meal. Because Harry is

regulated now, he doesn't have to always take a 2 hour post meal test.

However, for about 3 months he did until he got his carb grams down. He can

only eat about 15 to 20 grams of carbs per meal and stay regulated.
