Guest guest Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Fellow BFL'ers, Compliments... As my intense (earn a living) workload starts to shrink back down to maybe a 55 to 60 hour work week, I took some time last night to attend my 8 & 11 year old sons' baseball games. At one of the games, one of the visiting team member's mom, who only sees me once every couple of scheduled games, provided some nice complements on my weight loss and then asked me how I did it, as she, too, wanted to get into better condition and lose weight. Before I could say anything, she told me NOT to tell her to cut out the carbs, since she didn't think she could live without her carbs. I suggested it was not a matter of cutting out her carbs, but rather having the right mindset, eating right, eating often, and... Then she interrupted stating that was it? Being side tracked from the balance of my sentence, we got off on a tangent of what eating right meant. When she found out I had given up on eating my fried foods (except on occasion) she mentioned she could not live without her french fries. Don't tell her she would have to live without her french fries!!! I then tried to finish my former sentence. ...and exercise... Again, she interrupted with many objections to being able to exercise, but basically resulting in something that she just didn't want to do. Confusion... Maybe it was coming down off my intense workload, but, instead of feeling like challenging her, like I normally would when faced with some level of rejection, I felt frustrated with what I was understanding. Here is someone that wants to improve their health and visual appearance but doesn't want to change their eating or exercise habits. Maybe she was thinking I was going to mention some kind of gizmo on TV or maybe a pill that I was taking that suddenly helped me instantly drop 110+/- pounds and become stronger than I was in high school 30 years ago! It dawned on me as to the challenge Bill elected to face when he set out originally to try and change a million lives. ...And now his challenge to change America from fat to fit! Sure he had a financial reward for his efforts, but, WHAT A CHALLENGE!!! At the same time, I've noticed that many of those that I had encouraged, over the last year or so, to start a focus on health, have basically settled back into their prior habits. ...Not that I know they have for sure, but, at least their appearance suggests their fitness & exercise has again taken the back burner. At least my children living at home still participate in exercise and better nutrition, so I am still trying to set the right example. Consumption... In the meantime, for me, the scale seems to be stuck again, so I suppose it's time to revisit the level and mix of consumption. Continuing... I am back to nearly 100% of the weights I was using before my severely pinched neck nerve, so I am nearly back to full tilt on the exercises once again. I have noticed that all to familiar good pain in my quads this week after moving my squat weight back up to 380 for my 6 rep set, so I am burning up the muscle once again. And now, I am about to push my upper body to it's outer limits, so we'll see how that turns out. And for those that missed all my elongated posts... I'm back in the saddle and hope to be actively reporting on my (and the world's) progress once again. -- Remember... Guest guest Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 : 1) Compliments... you definately deserve those! 2) Confusion - you know, she wouldn't have to give up her french fries entirely. That's the ironic part. I actually find them rather disgusting, especially over the course of the last year or so. It is frustrating when people take the mindset that they don't want to do something and then find every excuse under the sun to support why they CAN'T do it. The sad thing is that as her health continues to deteriorate, she won't be able to live as WELL with her french fries. To quote Dr. Seuss, " No, you can't teach a sneech. " Maybe like the story, she'll wake up one day and change her behavior and attitude. 3) Consumption - I mixed things up last week, dove back into the proper eating hardcore and somehow actually lost 6lbs of FAT, no kidding! No just by the scale, but the calipers, too! Now, this week won't be like that, but holy cow. Magic trick? Two shakes a day (Myoplex lite). 4) Continuing - Congrats on being 100% back to what you were lifting before the pinched nerve! I'd say your push beyond limitations + a revision of the diet ought to do the trick to kick that fat loss in gear again! :-) Lianne Quote

Guest guest Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Lianne, Proving once again that 2 shakes of a Myoplex are better and faster than 2 shakes of a dogs tail! ...Maybe it was the magic trick comment, but, I have NO IDEA where that thought came from!!! Thank you for the positive feedback & for sharing your thoughts, too. Yeah, I think we Americans are bombarded with the " feel good " kinds of foods, and are NOT accustomed to enjoying foods that are good for us. A recent review of Tom Venuto's " A B Foods " article drives that point home. Tom rates various foods for their nutritional value and the " feel good " foods are a grade of " C " at the best, and most receive a failing grade. The BFL foods meet the grades of " A " & " B " . I, myself, will have to clear out a few more of the " C " and lower grade foods yet from my menu for my progress to resume. Anyhow... I suppose I am satisfied moving along the slow road to goal, but the key is moving along! I'll need to do SOMETHING to kick start the weight loss progress, once again. At 5'11.25 " , I'm actually NOT too disappointed weighing in the 240's, but the " sagginess " of certain areas are still part of my primary focus. My calves and thighs look quite strong, as do my arms, back and even parts of my abs and upper chest / pecs. ...My transformation continues, but, not at the rate noticed last year. I had also been to the resort / community pool with my young boys this past Sunday, and I wasn't feeling quite as embarrassed as I formerly felt about my " sagginess " . Maybe I am just starting to accept it, or maybe it is really becoming less of a sag as muscle continues to replace more fat. I am also delighted that I can do all the things the boys want: baseball, bicycling, swimming, walking, basketball, etc., and not be exhausted or incapable of playing with them. Yep, I'm at least 20 years younger now! ...And going DOWN. An active life is an enjoyable life. A toast to further progress for all of us! {clink} skibum49913 wrote: > <snip> > > 3) Consumption - I mixed things up last week, dove back into the > proper eating hardcore and somehow actually lost 6lbs of FAT, no > kidding! Guest guest Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Lianne sweetie, I can't tell you how many people have fallen off the wagon and gained everything back that they lost. Puh-leeze!! If you hadn't slipped up at least once, you wouldn't be human. The thing to remember is that you were there before, you know you will be there again! Plus, you already know you can do it. Oh, and arent you the one who lost SIX pounds this last week!?!? Pshaw, girl, you are rockin' and rollin'!! Keep it up and you will be right back to that hottie bod in NO time at all. Cheers, Jen B. > Kelley - LOL!!! > I needed that, kind of in a " not good place " today. > > -Lianne Quote
Guest guest Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 I guess I would question whether she really was interested in hearing from you how you lost your weight. I think she was more hoping for a miracle cure than what you had to offer. If you see her again, I would just recommend the BFL book and tell her to let you know if she has any questions. I've found most people just aren't willing to hear this kind of information unless they are going to a seminar specifically seeking how to lose weight. Sure they may ask you how you did it out of curiosity, but many are going to say it won't work for them. You may get though to some people, but don't let it bother you if you don't. Guest guest Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Jen- Thanks for the pick-me-up... I know, it is just frustrating. That is mostly due to having NO offline support. I'm just having one of those " take stock of your life and find out you're coming up short " kind of days. Blah blah blah. No danger of falling off the bandwagon or anything, not yet. One of those " appetite-suppressing foul moods. " The notion of being " one of those people " , however, is none to comforting and is generally motivation enough! ;-) -Lianne > > Kelley - LOL!!! > > I needed that, kind of in a " not good place " today. > > > > -Lianne Quote

The vet will be able to tell once he opens her up and can see if the tumor is contained or spidery. I have a pretty good feeling that it will be fatty...but hearing from the vet will be the final answer. Cat owners might want to research " vaccine induced tumor " on google and get the most current suggested guidelines for vaccinations and vaccine sites. The guidelines are now recommending that house bound cats have only limited vaccines and that outdoor cats be given the different vaccines in different locations on their body to minimize this tumor reaction. Guest guest Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 Is it from the feline leukemia vaccine? My vet just started using a device that airshoots the vaccine under the skin. I'm not sure what it is called. There's no needle and it makes a loud pop that scares some kitties. However, it is supposed to prevent these tumors and cancers at the vaccination sites. The day took one of the cats in he asked if I wanted to participate in an experiment. He just meant that my cat was the first cat he used it on in his office. It is believed that the 'fillers' in the vaccine are likely the culprit (metals that serve to sort of transport the [dead] virus into the system). The airshoot method has become the next more desirable method. It will not use these other 'fillers' and therefore hopefully not put the animal at risk for aquiring/developing tumors. Punky made it through the night just fine, but it is apparent that she is in pain today. She is staying in her bed...not moving more than she has to. She will be pretty sore for about three days, and her stitches should be absorbed by two weeks. It is believed by some [many] that cats communicate through and receive communicatin from others through mental telepathy and therefore it is wise to hold loving and caring images in your mind to relay to her that she is safe. So we have been doing that. I will be glad when the weekend is past ... knowing that she will be feeling a lot better by then. Kelley Run2Liv Quote
