Kim,

My daughter with Lyme had terrible trouble with her eyes. When she was

still in school she couldn't focus when looking repeatedly from the board or

overheads to her paper, and always had blurriness. She was seen at various

times by several optometrists, an ophthalmologist and an eye therapist who

all said her vision was fine. Finally another optometrist prescribed

glasses with a small amount of magnification and that helped to some degree.

Her prescription has since been increased and though not perfect, her vision

is much improved.

Kim-

Lyme does effect the eyes and I've been told that the spirochete can be

in the eye fluid (?...I cant remember who told me this...)

But anyway, my eyes bother the heck out of me...blurriness and depth

perception problems. They are dry from the antibiotics and the

prescription keeps changing. I wear glasses to drive but cant really

wear them to walk around because they make me dizzy.

I go to the eye dr a lot and have had even very bad infectious type of

stuff happen that is a chronic sort of conjunctivitis...and the Dr also

checked quite a bit while I was on Plaquinil to make sure that it wasn't

hurting my vision.

I've heard of a lot of eye stuff with Lyme and experienced it too...The

eye Dr is not a Lyme specialist but thinks that the problems are mainly

caused by the antibiotics. I don't know if that's true because I had

problems before I was diagnosed and was on antibiotics. They certainly

got worse on the antibiotics.

For the blurriness my Dr says to try some eye lubricant...and keeps

changing my Rx for glasses.

Good luck-

Melina

> HI,

I have had trouble with my vision for over a year. My LLMD says it

is definately the lyme messing with it. My eye doctor says there is

nothing else they can do. They looked to see if my optical nerve was

irritated, but other than that they say my prescription is at 20/20

but I still can't see very good, expecially at night or in the rain.

Everything seems blurry. So far I have not found any help for it. I

just try to work around it when possible.

The pituitary gland is located behind the eyes... If lyme heads there to disable

your body's " thermostat " it could very well cause swelling of that gland and

push the eyes forward, which would cause visual disturbances.

This is just my thoughts... I have graves disease, swollen optic nerves and

pseudo tumor, and this why I just saw a pituitary specialist. I had about 10

tubes of blood drawn yesterday...

We'll see!

My understanding of the Eye challenges is something called Visual Contrast

S... something that I can't remember. I think it might be Stimuli Deficit,

but my brain is on 'off' today so I don't remember for sure. Anyway, it has

to do with a neurotoxin infection or " borrelia in the brain " . I think the

doctor that is most involved in the study of this is R. Shoemaker (again, I

could be wrong here) but if you google VCS deficit you'll find the links.

You can test for this online. I hope this helps.

Also, I have a question... Has anyone tried a new ABx called Omnicef? My

doc says it's a good one for the brain. We're in the process of seeing if

medi-cal will pay for it. But I'm curious as to whether any of you have

tried it.

Peace,

Morningsong

Sheila,

If my eyes water at all, or if I cry (which isn't often), my tears burn my

eyes. Does anyone know why?

What is so weird is this guy never looked like that before. I always wonder

about people with health issues that I know. Sometimes I wish that I could

help them.

That's nice of you, I do the same. I do so much research that makes me

think of family and friends; I am constantly emailing them information.

Is there some other way you can describe your friend's eyes besides

translucent?

I'm glad this question came up. My vision has gotten very blurry

recently and it's obvious I need an upgrade on my eyeglasses. But,

I've been holding off because I wonder whether my vision will change

as I continue on the antibiotics. I've been on the antibiotics for 2

months.

My eyesight has been varying daily for 3 years. I was told it was because I

had fibro and the muscles did not function around the eyes normally. Well

after I tested positive for Lyme and started on abx my eyesight worsened ,

two days they blurred over and I had 20/800 vision. I had all the eye tests

and all was normal. The ophthalmologist said it was the Lyme in my brain

causing problems. Actually he was wrong. I wore contacts and my eyes were

not getting a balance of water and oxygen ,so that causes uveitis. I am not

able to wear contacts any longer. My eyes were still changing with glasses.

I read up on my abx which was doxy and it can cause vision problems. Lyme

can cause blurry vision according to the symptom list. I'm not on doxy any

more and I am still having change in vision. I really think it goes back to

the muscles that control the eyes . If they are not doing their job right

the vision changes. My optometrist was much more knowledgeable about Lyme,

Fibro,Uveitus than the eye doctor was. He was the one who knew the contacts

were what was making my eyes go completely blurry. How much us this is the

truth who knows. Every doctor has an opinion

When I first got lyme, I had just gotten new glasses. My vision was bad and

I put off calling for a new set of lenses. The vision would clear

up.....start back bad....finally after 6 months it was gone. Now only once

in a while it gets bad for a short few days or so. You need a lyme literate

physician eye doc. We have one in MI. I don't know of any others.Do your

kids have lyme...if so , no amount of changing glasses will help.

hugs.

HELLO add me to the list of those who are suffering blurry vision and eye

problems, NEVER had an eye problem until the lyme started attacking me, along

with numbness and restless legs, my eyes were the first of the symptoms of the

lyme overpowering me..... it just got worse from there. YES I am just

over the 40 mark, i went to eye doc to see if i needed glasses they said no,

and

the way it happened over night, and the way some days are so much worse than

others just convinces me it is all lyme related. good luck, c in vt

In addition to the loss of vision...I can no longer see " White " everything

is like having some dull grayish sunglasses on.

Really make me crazy when there is snow on the ground and I KNOW it should

be bright white...My color vision is testing

ok- I can tell the differences between colors...there is just nothing bright

and vibrant...it is very saddening.

I also cannot read unless there is extremely bright light available. gave

up reading newspapers some time ago...

I dont understand why it continues to deteriorate despite nearly a year of

abx?

I have seen a neurological opthamologist- tests reveal the cornea and optic

nerves are functioning...

VERY frustrating. MRI was also normal.

Lyme borrelia bacteria hate 2 things... oxygen and heat. They love the area

in the back of the eye where it is nearly anaerobic and that is why lymies have

blurry vision. You can even experience a 'blinding' spot when you look at

something (in the middle of vision). Blurriness can also be related to yeast,

especially when it is in one eye. Before changing eyeglass prescriptions (and my

husband and I did several times before knowing all this), I would work on

cleaning-up the internal environment.

I have experienced temporary blindness with this disease and I also had where

I could no longer read because the letters would jump off the page.

Although I don't know if the tests are the same genere. I would

recomend a SPECT scan through Brain Matters. 2 locations that I'm

aware of. My mate had one done there because the UNUM doctor tried to

say he had adult ADD not Lymes. ADD is Brain Matters speciality

(among others). We did prove encepholophy (sp) The Dr. even said that

the UMUM Dr. was completly lost. Ever since I sent UNUM the results

they haven't said Boo. (But I know they will probably try to cut him

off anyway) The Brain Matters camera it 10 times plus stronger then

the one used by Dr. Fallon (Columbia U Lymes researcher) They

even recomended my mate seek out Dr. Fallon and DEFINATLY have

antibiotic treatment, even long term. The Head Dr. there is completly

top nuculer(sp) specialist. Best and most accepting Dr. I've met in

my life. Sent him all Dr. Fallons research, which he reviewed before

the scan. Then he compared my mates brain pictures to Dr. Fallons

Lyme brain pictures and BINGO, hard to miss. If you (or anyone) would

like further info on Brain Matters please go to

www.brainmattersinc.com. It's like $2600 but they have lots of ways

to pay, I had to come up with 600 down and 200 a month but insurance

reimbursed 70%.

Early on we had a tick like this with a "KKKzzzzz" sound during the squint. It could have been a script too but it left after diet and chelation. If you think you have a scratch tho' see your doctor. Remember to ask for Thimerosal free eye drops :) <tylerhaley01@...> wrote:

Hi ,

I have been doing ABA for two years with kids on the spectrum. I

have noticed that a few of my kids squint their eyes when they look

at some things. This seems to be a kind of self stimulatory

behavior. This may not be the case with your child, but I just

thought I would let you know that it is a possibility.
