Panic attacks

Girls ~ I too have had what I thought were panic attacks, off and on for several years. It did end up being my heart tho. That is why I asked Dianne to do her pulse......and blood pressure during an attack.........my trip down a failing heart road has been a total nightmare, I just didnt want to scare anyone, but please when having a panic attack, check your pulse, and if you have monitor, take your blood pressure. If you dont have one, it is a great tool to have on hand at home. I just dont want anyone to go through what I have on the heart issue.... heart disease in women present themselves very different. My heart attack felt like I got hit in the left jaw with a baseball bat ! This happened when I woke up one night and went to pee. I thought I maybe dislocated my jaw somehow, there was no chest pain, or tightening, or numbness down my arm. This happened out of a dead sleep. Several months later is when I became the walking dead, and that was because I had no clue I had a heart attack til then ! ! My heart disease plummeted during those months only to have me in serious condition. I dont want that to happen to any one else ! Blessings ~ DAOL now offers free email to everyone. Yes maam ! ! It is.........and it is scarey..........I thought I was gonna loose it.

Had absolutely NO clue it was my heart. I knew my heart was racing, but I thought the panic attack was causing the heart to race, not my heart racing causing me to panic..........so please, I can not beg you enough, go get a monitor to have at home to check your blood pressure and pulse during episodes. Reguardless of the reason for these episodes, a monitor is just really good to have on hand. It is also good for the family to take CPR.........kids and all should know it, there is far too much heart disease out there for it not to be a family emergency tool ! !

Do you ever feel like you are kind of rocking back and forth alittle when you have these episodes? Do you get hot then get cold?

Unfortunately, middle aged women are dying right and left due to heart trouble. Although I have been very ill thru all the years since implant, I made myself hike all the time, no matter how slow, and how often I had to rest, I was always so so active before my heart gave out. I am working towards that again, now, and am determined to win ! ! You are very welcome Nan !

You are VERY welcome. When you ask him, dont mention the implants in the same question. Just tell him you have episodes in which your heart races, and you just want to check in to it. I find that when dealing with doctors, especially now that silicone and implants are "Safe", if implants are mentioned, nothing else I say is heard. This is the same thing that happened to me in the 90's when I had the silicone blow out. Good luck, and let me know what the doc says.........

Dianne,

It is common for us to hear about panic attacks after women have been

implanted.

My cardiologist has a neat sign on the door of the exam rooms, it says.........

If I dont take your blood pressure on both arms, I am being lazy..............

reason is because if there is a great difference from one side to the other, that could mean there may be a blockage, although, some difference is normal............. ~ Hugs ~ DAOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at AOL.com.

Hi Dianne! I definitely know what you are taking about. I have these episodes in which I become very dizzy and light headed and my heart races. Its like a feeling of really intense vertigo and very frightening. This began for me after implants and they seem to happen for no rhyme or reason, meaning I don't have them when I am stressed out. Sound familiar?? I think alot of women here have experienced this kind of thing.Very scary indeed! Hi Dianne,

As of December 06, I have been suffering from both anxiety and panic

attacks. The doctors blame it on my hormones, they would never admit

the implants are causing anything.

I have had my implants for almost 8 years now though and December was

the very first time I experienced any sort of anxiety or full blown

panic attacks. I am now taking klonopin each night and it helps keep

the panic attacks at bay. I am hoping to wean off the drug once my

implants are removed.

my body, it is a very unpleasant feeling and makes me

cry because i cant breathe properly and my pulse

races. I have not had one in about 3 weeks, i really

dread the next one. And this has only occured since i

was implanted. Is this what you have experienced????

Thanks Dianne

Hi Lynn

My doctors will also not admit that my implants are

the cause, but i no different.

I had my first panic attack 2 weeks after implants

were put in and lots more after that i now take

cipralex which helps keep them at bay and i am also

going to wean off them after i have been explanted in

2 weeks time.

Hi Katy

I definately no what you mean, doctors have been

treating me with anxiety and depression for the past

12 months and will not relate any of this to my

implants i feel like i am banging my head against a

brick wall with every doctor i see and i have seen 8

in the last 12 months. After all i only started with

panic attacks and other symptoms after i was implanted

i was a completely healthy 28 year old before this.

My attacks come without warning to i can just be

watching the television when it happens, it is very

frightening and reduces me to tears as i feel like i

am going to die.

Lynn ~

What meds do they have you on? I would say, keep a journal. Take it a couple times a day, every so often, and always take it when you feel your heart racing, and take it as quick at possible when it races. I found out that mine was going up to 130 while I was sleeping, and it would wake me up, and I would be hot, so I put the monitor in bed with me. Sometimes it would be my heart rate, and sometimes it would be my blood pressure. They both spike on me, as well as bottom out. What happens, I will start to get hot, and not know why, I found myself turning the AC down and then a few minutes I would get cold as ice. What I found is, it would spike to say 110 on up and stay there for a minute or so, then go back down. It does not stay high. Same with my blood pressure. The other night I woke up feeling nausiated and hot, and so I took my reading, and my blood pressure spiked to 164/99. When my pulse spikes, when sleeping, it will go up to 130 sometimes, and it wakes me up feeling nausiated and hot. I rarely actually feel my pulse racing. I just get nausiated and hot. That is very high for me. Mine when good stays in the 90's/60's Write down about how long it raced too. My pulse is always up and down. The pace maker is set to stay 70 or above, as I have bradycardia, as well as tachycardia 100 plus. It is set to go off and re-set my heart if it monitors it over 214 BPM for 20 minutes. That happened to me last february, 06. My daughter and I went for a walk down at the river, and we were out there about 30 minutes when it started shocking me, the defibrillator part of my device shocked me 6 times in 6 minutes, I received a total of 5.000 volts. The device monitored my heart beating over 200 beats per minute for over 20 minutes before it started shocking me. I did NOT feel it doing that. I was starting to get hot........but I did not feel the heart beating so fast ! ! !

As women, and the rate of heart disease in women, we all need to be highly educated in that area, and just be aware best we can.

If your heart is not acting up while on that medicine, you are probably ok for now. But I would keep a close eye on it. Safety measures ! ! A couple times a week I would check your vitals a couple times a day at rest., just to get a baseline of what your heart is doing at rest. I would also check it after doing strenous things just to see what it is doing under duress. Record it all, just so you can look back and see what it has been doing. What does your blood pressure run? As women we always need to stay in tune with our bodies ! ! !

You know, when your body is feeling badly and screaming, it can tend to make both vary alot. It does mine, so, I think you are ok, but do keep a journal so that you can just see where you are, and how you are affected after your surgery. I really think you will be fine, and it is the implant related ordeal affecting you. My prayers are with ya girl ! Have a lovely evening ~

Hi D,

My heart races as well. I do have a blood pressure monitor at home

and my pulse rate typically is in the 90s when this happens but my BP

is normal? I have had several EKGs run and all come back normal.

That is when the doctor told me I was having anxiety.

My medication keeps it under control. Do you recommend having more

tests?

I am currently on klonopin for the panic attacks (only take .25mg at

night). I am also taking remeron a antidepressant 7.5mg at night.

Both drugs have helped keep the panic, anxiety and depression away.

I hope to wean off after I have the implants removed.

My blood pressure is typically 118-120 over 68-80. It really varies

but typically stays within normal range. My heartrate is typically

higher in the 80-90 range. A journal is a great idea though.

Especially when it comes to me weaning off the meds.

Thanks D.

Dianne, Here's the good news: As strange as it sounds, you will become more accustomed to the panic attacks and they will become less scary. I have been having them for 6 years now and I have gotten to the point where I can often stop them when they are coming on by mentally talking myself out of them. I repeat a positive mantra in my head and refuse to let the panic seize me. You'll be suprised how strong your will can be! This doesn't always work... Sometimes I have bad attacks that come out of nowhere and take me down, but now that I have learned to identify the feeling of one coming on, I try not to let my fear help it grow in power. I tried taking Ativan for a while, but it just felt like I was throwing a blanket on top of the panic; like it was still there, just muted. Learning how to reduce the intensity and frequnecy has helped me feel in control again. When I do have a bad attack now, I know that I must get myself somewhere safe and quiet (out of the public) and I must eat something eventhough I am nauseated (low blood sugar can bring one on for me) and most important I HAVE TO BREATHE deeply. Also, make note of where they happen, you may find a connection. I tend to have panic attacks when I am in fluorescent lighting. Hope that helps! Thank you very much for the info and advice.

I cannot wait till they come less scary, i have not

had one in a few weeks now, but dread the day another

one comes along.

I have started to self talk when one comes and it does

soon pass and they are less fierce. When i do have

one though i am left completely drained and just want

to sleep, i dont know if that is the same for you????

Dianne, Katy, , Gretchen and anybody else who suffers panic

attacks...

There is a website that has helped me deal when I have a full-blown

attack. I am hoping it can help you too. I have had to read it a

few times to make sense of it and when the anxiety and panics creep

up, I read it again. It isn't a cure but it has helped me.

Dear Dianne, Yes, when I have a bad panic attack, I am left totally drained too. Usually I will have a big one that will last for 1/2- 1 hr and then I will have little aftershocks where I think another is coming but then it will pass. The first time it happened I thought I was having a stroke and I tried to go to emergency, but I was living in London at the time and they made me call the NHS nurse from home so as to not clog up the hospital emergency. The NHS nurse told me I was having a panic attack and I thought that sounded like a ridiculous answer for what was happening to me! I also carry a homeopathic remedy in my purse called "Rescue Remedy" I take this when I feel like one might come on. It is meant to "comfort and re-assure" and really seems to help me with my anxiety. You can buy it at the health food store and it costs $9.00... When i do haveone though i am left completely drained and just wantto sleep, i dont know if that is the same for you????Dianne x--- katy mclean <thesuddendeparture (DOT) ca> wrote:> Dianne,> > Here's the good news: As strange as it sounds, you> will become more accustomed to the panic attacks and> they will become less scary. > > I have been having them for 6 years now and I have> gotten to the point where I can often stop them when> they are coming on by mentally talking myself out of> them.
