Guest guest
You'll be fine! I had 250CC over the muscle for 11 years. I was a small B before implant, then with breastfeeding 3 times, I went up to a DDD and eventually landed at a full C. After my surgery with Dr Feng my breasts are more beautiful now than they were before the implants. In fact if they had looked like this before, I never would have implanted! I'm actually a full B now even after having the explant with a lift. Dr. Feng is wonderful, you'll be in good hands. Don't let the scarring freak you out because it looks bad a first but with time it heals well.
Guest guest
Jenna, In the hands of a good surgeon, you will will not be deformed . . . and Dr. Feng is an excellent doctor. You should look pretty much like you did before implants. With a lift, you might even look better! Any doctor that tells you that you will be deformed is speaking of their own skills . . . run! Guest guest
Well, I'm in a predicament because me and my husband got into an argument a few weeks ago, and it was over my looking into explants. He didn't speak to me for a week and during that time I was feeling at my absolute worst physically and decided on surgery w/ Dr. Feng and booked it. Now I'm trying to figure out how to tell him without another blowout. It is my body, but he's saying what if I have the surgery and that's not what the problem was, and I'm still sick. If I cancel w/ Dr. Feng now I'll lose my deposit - plus I know it'll be December before I can get in to see her again. ----- Original Message -----From: jennag2224 Subject: New Member-1 more question?Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2005 21:01:00 -0000Can anyone tell me whether or not they think I will have breast deformation after removal of the implant? I keep hearing different things including that if the implant is above the muscle that deformity will for sure happen. My implants are above the muscle and I was a C before and went to a D. I have only had 1 surgery and I have had them since Dec. 1998. I am also only 29 years old. I keep seeing pictures on websites that is scaring me. I have made my appt. withDr. Feng but can't get in until the middle of November because she is so booked. I guess I am freaking myself out...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Guest guest
Sis, Would it help if he talked to the husbands of some of our women? . . . I'm sure some of them would be happy to reassure him. . . He's probably concerned that, after all the expense, you'll still be sick and he won't know what to do! While there are no 100% guarantees, I can't recall any woman who had her implants removed by Dr. Feng who isn't doing much, much better! She's an excellent doctor. We have some excellent articles in the archives that explain the problems associated with implants . . . Would he read them? Would it help if he read some of the messages from the group? We recently had one woman whose husband wasn't speaking to her because she was getting explanted . . .. At the last minute, he suddenly became very supportive. She was going out of town, to a doctor she's never seen before . . . He was scared and feeling powerless. That's an awful feeling for most men! When it comes down to it, all most hubby's want is for their wife to be well! . . . When he understands what you need, I'll bet he's there for you! Guest guest
If you could point me to the articles, it might be a good place to start - giving him some reading material. Not sure if he's ready to talk to the husbands, however that's a good thing to keep in mind. Guest guest
Don't freak out! I seriously doubt that you will be deformed. We used to have a photo section but had to remove it to get more exposure for our site. The women who posted their before and after pics looked really good afterwards. Several of the women here actually liked their breasts better after explant. They were perky, naturally soft, and best of all, healthier! Most women are about the same size after explant that they were before they ever got implants. Some women were larger, and some were smaller. It does take awhile--a few weeks to a few months for your breasts to fluff back out again, but this is much more noticeable in flatchested women. Some women get lifts with their explants, but in many cases that was not necessary. Your ps should be able to have a good idea of how you will look after explant. Please try to stay positive about the explant. Chances are good that you will feel just fine about how you will look. Guest guest
I am really sorry that your husband is not supporting you more in this. I think it is time to have a heart to heart talk. Get him to share with you all his objections to your seeing the ps to talk about an explant. Make sure you totally understand his reasoning. Is it fear? Fear that you will not look acceptable after explant? Fear of the surgery itself (thinking of risks of surgery). Is it the money? Is it that he is afraid that you will still be sick and be out the money? Or that you will be upset if you don't get well? Or does he just totally not believe it. Once you know his reasons, then you are in a better position to address them. Tell him that you have fears and doubts too, but that you feel deeply that the implants are making you sick and that getting them out is the best chance of getting better and that you need him to support you in it. Perhaps show him this site. Tell him that women sick from implants just continue to develop more and more symptoms if they leave them in. That you can't live this way anymore and many many people on this site were in the same position and now are getting their lives back. EAch of us had to take the same chance. And very very few of us regret getting explanted. That should show you how convinced we are that implants were making us sick. Hopefully he will come around and support you. But even if he doesn't, I think you owe it to yourself to keep your appt. Surgery isn't cheap, but neither are cars, houses, vacations, etc. and we manage to find ways to get those things. None of those purchases comes close to the value of having your health back. Part of the reason that Dr. Feng is so booked up is that so many women are coming to her for explants. This wouldn't be happening if there weren't alot of women getting sick from implants. It also wouldn't happen if there weren't women getting better after explantation. Good luck. Guest guest
I wonder if Dr. Feng, Kolb and others are keeping a record of how many women are explanted because of illness. That would be pretty telling, I would imagine. My husband is very supportive, but he had trouble talking with me about this, too. I agree that finding out what his concerns are is a big step. I know that my husband was very worried, because of my health. There is not much I can add to what Kathy has already said, but I wish you the best of luck. > > Well, I'm in a predicament because me and my husband got into an > argument > > a few weeks ago, and it was over my looking into explants. Guest guest
Thanks. I know when I spoke to Dr. Kolb she said she was keeping track of it. I'll ask Dr. Feng if she's tracking it, too - I have the feeling she is, especially if she is one of the doctors who acknowledges that these things make some people sick. I appreciate the input, and also wanted to thank Rogene for sending me the articles. I hope things improve with hubby, I think it's going to be a rough week for both of us - me because of the surgery, him because he'll be home dwelling on it. Just hope I come home to positive vibes. I'm scared that the surgery will flare up the herpes type 2 (I realize I have no shame in announcing that anymore since I'm struggling with yet another stigma - the sick boob syndrome). I posted this before, but I had that completely under control and after the implants it's been hard to manage. Funny, I was talking to my sister this morning and in one way or another, all of us are struggling with some really huge issues right now. 2005 just hasn't been a good year in my family. Guest guest
What day is your surgery again? I want to make sure to be praying for you that day! Best of luck to you. Who is going with you? I thought I would tell you that I used Dr. Feng and she is very thorough. I had a very easy time of it. The surgery went fine, the recovery was very uneventful. I even went to Niagra Falls with my husband the next day! I got my drains out 2 days after the surgery and went home. The only downside was that I was very upset when she showed me my breasts. I had been very flat before implants and was actually sunken in after surgery. I cried. She told me it would take awhile for them to get like they would end up. Somewhere after about a month they started to fluff back up. They are now exactly the size as they were before I ever got implants. Many women think their breasts look good right away. I think it may have to do with the size you were before implants. In other words, women who were probably a B cup or larger before implants are more likely to think they still have breasts right after surgery. The really flat people like me look sunken, but that DOES go away. I am just telling you that so you will be prepared if you are one of those women. You have to remember your breasts have been compressed all that time by the implants. Also the longer you have the implants--I had them eleven years, the more compressed I would think your breasts might be. Also remember every woman's path to wellness after explant is somewhat unique. So don't give too much weight to how you feel right after surgery. We all heal at different rates and for most people it is a forwards and backwards path. Being prepared that feeling better or not feeling better yet is all within the norm will save you from being stressed out after the surgery. Guest guest
It's Wednesday, October 5th. I had the original surgery on 5/10/05, and I'm scheduled for explant on 10/5/05. The thing that is so very confusing to me is that when I first had the HSV2, I had symptoms very similar to what I'm having now - minus the swelling joints. So, I'm going up and down the roller coaster thinking "maybe it's really the HSV2 (herpes) that's acting up, and I'm not having a reaction to the implants" (it hasn't happened in a long time, but before I had a handle on the medication for that, I did have long spells that were similar to this), and then I think "maybe the HSV2 is acting up BECAUSE the implants have my immune system so screwed up". It's strange because for the past few days, I've actually felt almost normal, and it would be better if I were having a bad spell right now because a good spell makes me question things. One thing I am encouraged by, though, is the fact that you had an easy time with the explantation. I found the augmentation very stressful and painful, and the thought of going through that all over again isn't making me happy. I'm also wondering about the drains - she said I'd have them in until Friday or Saturday - I didn't have them with the BA, so I don't know anything about them. I was very small, so I'll prepare myself for the sunken look. Luckily I've only had them 5 months, so maybe they'll go back to how they used to be relatively soon. Guest guest
- It would be very hard to tell if the herpes virus is causing all of your symptoms or not. But I can tell you that once your body is compromised by one immune problem, it isn't going to handle another well. The fact that you already have the herpes virus is enough of a reason not to further compromise your immune system with the implants. There is good reason to believe that you will get just more and more symptoms if you were to leave the implants in and that the herpes virus might get more out of control--which could be accounting for symptoms back now. Knowing what you know now, I doubt you would ever be comfortable with leaving them in--you would always be wondering if they were making you sick. The drains aren't usually too big of a problem. Mine went really well. Some people have alot more drainage than others. But it is really good to have them in as they help heal faster and prevent some problems from developing. I would tend to agree that your breasts will probably bounce back faster due to the small amount of time you have had them in. Guest guest
Thanks, and those are really good points. A few days before the BA, I was definitely wondering if this would cause the herpes to go out of control, and I wish I had listened to that little voice in my head that questioned it. I originally posed that question on a site that is pro-implant (before I had the BA) - one of the sites that fails to recognize those of us who have problems after the implants are put in. On that other site, I pretty much got blasted for even suggesting such a thing. I guess some people must own alot of stock in the companies that manufacture these things. I think what I need to do is increase the dose of medication I take to control the flareups, and hopefully that will help. I was talking to my sister today and I told her that I believe I have no other choice but to remove these things, because the thought of them in my body is making me crazy. If I kept them in just to avoid the pain of surgery, and the possibility of outbreaks, then I wouldn't be getting to the root of the problem, and they would just continue to make me sicker and crazier. I just feel like the herpes complicates an already complicated situation. I'm thankful I can discuss it on this site without judgement, though - they are two topics (implants and herpes) that are subject to judgement - however I don't feel judged on this site. Guest guest
Sis, The pro-implant sites are the advertising mouthpiece of the plastic surgeons and manufacturer's . . . You can't expect them to acknowledge the problems. It's their bread and butter! One plastic surgeon told me, to my face that he made money putting breast implants in and in taking them out. He didn't give a damn what women did. There should be a law! Hugs, Rogene --- Sis Canfield <auntsisnj@...> wrote: > Thanks, and those are really good points. Guest guest
It's horrible that this is allowed to go on, but it's a multi-billion dollar industry, and who's going to mess with that? When I was looking at the pro-implant sites, I was stunned to see people totally excited that Silicone was on it's way back. Whenever you mention the word "Saline" to people, the first thing that comes out of their mouth is that "they're safe" (unless of course they've had them and have gotten sick from them). I'm really thankful that I was able to get in with Dr. Feng when I did (Oct 5), because my thumbs are starting to get really sore now and my neck hurts. For a few days I felt really good and was having doubts, but at this point I'm thinking "do I need the entire house to fall down on me before I do something about this?" Hubby can be pissed if he wants, but I have to take charge of this for the sake of my body. Guest guest
It is really unfortunate that people spend so much of their lives judging others. We all make mistakes--unfortunately experience is the chief way most of us learn. If people judge you because you have herpes, or because you have implants, that is their problem. Most of us can't avoid being judged for some stupid reason, no matter how hard we try. So you shouldn't feel alone on that one. In fact, the reason many people here got implants was because they were judged---to be too flat, not woman enough, not sexy enough, etc. by classmates in high school, by friends, by boyfriends, by those making thoughtless jokes and remarks, by society in general until we believed that we were somehow inferior with our inferior breasts. And now I am being judged by friends and family for detoxing, eating differently, etc. Wow, I am amazed at how uncomfortable people are with people who have different ideas about food. If I choose not to eat the sugar laden treats at get togethers, or skip chips and the like, people think I am some sort of weirdo health freak. This impression increases greatly when they find out I drink raw milk, eat organic meat and fruits and vegetables, and avoid gluten (wheat). So feel free to ask whatever you want, we are not here to judge, but to help as others have so wonderfully helped us! Guest guest
The problem with sugar is that it feeds fungal organisms. . . . There are over 300 fungal/yeast organisms that may be found in the human body!!! Some of these are very tough to control - Especially when beneficial organisms have been depleted because of medications or a suppressed immune system. What's happening when you get sugar cravings is that the fungal organisms are screaming " Feed me, feed me, feed me. " . . . For an experiment, pour two cups of warm water. Put one teaspoon of yeast in each cup - add a teaspoon of sugar to one cup . . . Then watch the sugar mix grow like crazy! Once you get off sugar, you'll find the desire for sweets diminishes considerably. When you do eat something sweet, it will taste disgustingly sweet. On the other hand, artificial sweetners (all of them) have their own problems. Better to retrain the taste buds than to switch. If you do crave something sweet, try a LITTLE fruit or honey. Once the problem is under control, you'll be able to indulge occasionally without noticing a problem. However, I've found that I still have to be very careful. When I have a problem, it shows up as a sore mouth or discomfort in one ear. I've found the spit test a good way to see if I'm on track. Guest guest
I know it does - feed the fungal stuff... I really do have terrible cravings. And I have to stay away from it, not just because I have to lose weight, but I am also pre- diabetic. Well, my doctor actually has 'diabetes' as a diagnosis! I take oral medication - metformin. I really cannot eat sugar. And it is the hardest thing I have ever had to quit. I stopped smoking years ago and THAT was easier than stopping sugar!! > The problem with sugar is that it feeds fungal > organisms. . . . Guest guest
It's funny, because I had accepted my small boobs years and years ago, but I got carried away by this fantasy of having them after my husband said he'd pay for them if I wanted to get them. Then an acquaintance (who suddenly disappeared when I started feeling poorly after the surgery) told me she had them, and her daughter had them. Suddenly I was stuffing my bra and trying on all my clothes, and it just took on a life of its own. My husband made a comment that stuck with me - I said "what if the surgery doesn't turn out that good" and he said "it would probably still look better than how they look now". I'm not blaming him for my mistake, however that definitely carried alot of weight. When I started feeling poorly, it seems like the people who were cheering me on to get them (husband and the acquaintance I mentioned above) suddenly were treating me like I was some kind of crackpot. I definitely plan on changing my diet after the surgery, and eating organic food is on my list of things to start doing. I always had good eating habits, however since I've been sick I've craved protein, and where I normally ate alot of fruit and vegetables, I just don't have an interest in food right now so not much appeals to me. I eat to fill up, not because I have an appetite. I just can't wait to get these things out of my body and start the healing process. I know I'll need some advice from everyone here. Keep me in your thoughts on the day of my surgery - October 5th. My sister is going with me. Guest guest
Hi Kathy! This is a great post and you hit it all on the head!! It felt good to read how you feel about being judged because you eat differently and detox. This is exactly how I feel around my family and friends. A few take an interest and want to know more, most think I'm nuts!! Because I am small, most people think I have eating disorders and that's why I don't eat the sugar crap!
