Guest guest
I'm just reading the adrenal link and I'm absolutely floored. My doctor has me on a small amount of armour but after reading this link, I must have DEAD adrenals. I have ALL of these symptoms. I have that damned plummeting blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension) and I used to faint because of this. Different doctors have told me I have this problem. My osteopath told me to eat a lot of sea vegetables and miso soup to help with this. So what is adrenal support exactly? Is that DHEA ? Since I started taking that, I DO feel much better but if adrenals aren't strong enough to support thyroid medication, then why would a doctor give someone thyroid medication without treating adrenals first?? > > First off, I'm not a doctor, so take everything I say with a grain fo salt > (sea salt). > > Initially when a human begins whole natural thyroid meds, it si wise to > first begin adrenal support. > http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/ > http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/mistakes-patients-make/ > > When beginning a whole thyroid med, the typical starting dose is 1- 2 grains > (60-120mg). > There may be an initial " get-used-to " period when cells wake up, but this > passes within a > week or so. Guest guest
I hope I'm not offending anyone when I say some doctors are just plain effed up stupid insane moronic bas*ards that should be pumping gas instead of trying to kill patients. And I'm being nice. One of my friends was just legally murdered with chemo-therapy, sorry, but I'm a little miffed at the medical industry right now... You should her what I " really " want to say... All based on my own experiences... For example, my HEALTHY thyroid gland was destroyed by a dr because I broke my back... Oh wait, I had a surprise accidental hysterectomy at age 21 when I only went in to get my tubes tied.....doctors sure are something, huh? But I digress... Adrenal support is basically 1/2 of what normal healthy adrenals produce daily. And that would be 20mg Cortesol, OR 5mg of Prednisolone (Deltacortril), OR 5mg Prednisone. Isocort is a lightweight form of adrenal support that can be over the counter, but for some a more heavy duty form of adrenal support is usually necessary - like if one has been thyroid sic for a while, or switching from $ynthCrap (synthroid) to a whole thyroid med (Armour, Naturethroid, Thyroid-S, etc). One doesn't usually need adrenal support when taking synthetic T4 because apparently synthetic T4 and our T3 receptors don't necessarily coincide. Well, I should say that it seems to me that synthetic T4 doesn't convert to enough T3 to make any difference at all, so... Oh, heck, www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Sam (thyroid-less, ovary-less and Armour-ized) k9gang@... www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Re: Re: Question about SamE > > > > > > Sam... if you wouldn't mind, quick question: My TSH is 2.87. Guest guest
LOL!!! Sam you are funny! Pumping gas instead of killing patients ! Love it. Sorry about your friend and yes they act as if chemo is a Godsend for us. What we need is COMPETENT TESTING. Why on earth can't we all get a whole-body MRI every year and take care of every damned thing at once? I'll bet you can all answer that. My God Sam sounds like you've had quite a life of operations. Thought I was bad with giant cell tumors growing all over the place! At least they aren't cancerous. All we can do is pray and try to get informed as much as we can. Well here's to another question I have to " throw " at my doctor. > > > > > > First off, I'm not a doctor, so take everything I say with a grain > > fo salt > > > (sea salt). > > > > > > Initially when a human begins whole natural thyroid meds, it si > > wise to > > > first begin adrenal support. > > > http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/ > > > http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/mistakes-patients-make/ > > > > > > When beginning a whole thyroid med, the typical starting dose is 1- > > 2 grains > > > (60-120mg). > > > There may be an initial " get-used-to " period when cells wake up, > > but this > > > passes within a > > > week or so. Guest guest
Re: Re: Question about SamE Water under the bridge and all that, ya know... The hystie took the worry out of " being close " and I didn't have to worry about that pesky monthly bleedy thingy, and didn't have to buy those absorbo thingies, and all that. Look on the bright side, however, the lack of female hormones sucked. But at least now I can adjust them on a whim. Ugh! I'm not sure I can look on the bright side of the thyroid destructo scenario. But if anything, my long 17yr self-imposed hypO-sick hermit-ness helped my inner growth, and all that mental cosmic-y crapola. Well, I did stop being so self absorbed and bratty, so much. <wink> How I felt after the hystie was ANGER. Huge big time anger. I was just a baby at 21, afterall. But they 'gave' me a tummy tuck which helped a little. I had this gigantor hangy stretched out baby belly thingy that always got caught in my zipper. The prospect of being able to wear a string micro-bikini in public once again really was rather tempting. But they did a bad job on it... surprise surprise... I think right now there's no way I could ever get victimized by doctors again. That is what those experienced did for me. Guest guest
If you ask me, the more s.o. has allergies, the less their adrenals are working, and the less their adrenals are working, the more deficient they are in thyroid hormone. I had been taking 1/4 gr Armour for awhile, but it helped little, doc upped to 1/2 gr., but I still wasn't happy and knowing that I had a lot of stress in my life (burdening the adrenals) and with my low afternoon bouts of tiredness, I asked my doctor to add Cortef, since 'burn-out' showed in the saliva tests, and after that, I did okay. On my own I had done an iodine on my skin (at the doc it costs $ 70 with his machine), and found out I'm badly needing it. So my doc suggested I use Lugol's iodine/iodide in addition. Turns out that after all, I seem to only need iodine, am not tired out in pm anymore and sleep much more through the night. However, when there's stress, I need to add some Armour and jCortef or/and DHEA. Some NDs recommend doing l/2 dose Cortef and 1/2 DHEA, 'cause the adrenals need both of these. As far as your Mom's concerned, she has to learn in her own time, and you can only learn to lovingly/patiently wait. With her positive longlife family history she may have nothing to fear, except her weight; and may be she is open to improve on her diet, since weight is a low thyroid symptom, and low thyroid often brings on heart problems (like it did in my case). Cheereo, and good night! Charlotte Re: Question about SamE > Hi Charlotte -- I thank you in advance for all your suggestions. Guest guest
Yes Charlotte- the more I read about the adrenals, the more I think I need adrenal help because 1/2 grain of Armour isn't doing it. I was good for awhile and now I'm getting TIRED again and walking around like a zombie. You know, I really think if I got to bed by 9 pm every night like I SHOULD, I probably wouldn't have any problems with the plummeting blood pressure when I stand up fast, etc etc. I need REST!!! I have a horrible lifestyle - too much commuting and working. But for all I know, I could still have all those chemical imbalances even if I was a goody two shoes and got my sleep. We all have a long way to go educating our doctors, although I tend to think that they already KNOW what to do for us but like to keep us unhealthy to keep the money rolling in. Guest guest
Oh Sam - I am SO SORRY this all happened to you. God what a nightmare. How on EARTH did they give you an accidental hysterctomy at 21? Did they confuse you with another patient? I guess I shouldn't complain. After all, I was 47 when had my ovarian failure. And then having to deal with doctors who still, in 2006, do NOT know how to dose hormones. I hope you got some restitution from that whole episode. > > > Water under the bridge and all that, ya know... > The hystie took the worry out of " being close " and I didn't have > to worry about that pesky monthly bleedy thingy, and didn't have to > buy those absorbo thingies, and all that. Guest guest
1/2 grain of Armour is simply NOT ENOUGH. A typical " starting dose " is 1-2 grains! 1/2 grain of Armour 'is' just enough to p*ss off your body, tho. Read this: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/mistakes-patients-make Gosh, I seriously love that web site. It makes " thyroid education " so much easier. Instead of long winded emails, I just send a web address. <grin> Know what I'm on? EIGHT grains!!!!! Well, I have no thyroid gland, so I need what I need - a full replacement dose. My doctor's head would spin on it's axis if she knew - she reduced my Rx from 6 grains to 4 grains a while back, so I order my own and dose by symptoms. I have tried to educate that insane moron, to no avail, so I use her to Rx what she will, so my insurance will cover what it will. And even so, I still have to pay for Estradiol and testosterone because my disability insurance will only cover Premarin and will NOT pay for testosterone for women because, according to them, women do not use testosterone. Oh well, anyway... Guest guest
Thanks, . Accidental hystie came about because I was in a military hospital and they mixed me up with the patient next to me. She got her tubes tied and I got the hystie. The only restitution I got from that was a tummy tuck. You see, I was married at the time to a Navy guy and his " higher ups " threatened him with demotion if I proceeded with a law suit. He in turn beat the living crap out of me (fresh out of the hosp, no less) in order to convince me to not sue. When I was re-admitted to repair the damage the beating did to my surgical areas, I was offered the tummy tuck. How nice of my hubby at the time to allow me to go back into the hosp. I guess the hemorrhaging scared him and he was afraid of jail time for murder... What a guy, huh? Just so you know, I will have been divorced 32 years in May. Well? You asked... <wink> Sam (thyroid-less, ovary-less and Armour-ized) k9gang@... www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Re: Question about SamE > Oh Sam - I am SO SORRY this all happened to you. Guest guest
Reference ranges were made from averages of a wide age group of supposedly thyroid-healthy people. Obviously that group was not thyroid-healthy. They have changed the reference ranges for TSH many times because something like 80% tested closer to 1 or below. The TSH " normal " range used to go up to 10. Can you imagine how many people suffered and died because of that? It's mind boggling. Who do we have to pay off to change it? I'd say about as much, if not more, than the big pharmaceutical companies do... <wink> Sam (thyroid-less, ovary-less and Armour-ized) k9gang@... www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Re: Question about SamE > Sam you are making my EARS turn red!
