Guest guest
FT3 in mid-range. Ouch. FT3/FT4 need to be in the high range. Low functioning thyroid = 40% greater risk of heart issues. !!! Free T3 needs to be near the top, a bit above, or somewhat above the high normal range. !!! Free T4 needs to be the same, but just a little less than the Free T3. !!! TSH needs to be almost ZERO! (TSH is not a thyroid hormone and we won't die if it's not measurable). Low functioning thyroid = bone loss, poor circulation, metabolism breaking down exponentially... Seriously, you guys should absolutely visit www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Read it all. I don't think I could have done a better job with that website. I refer all folks new to the thyroid " thang " to this website. Guest guest
I watched one show where HOUSE Rx'd a synthetic T4 med. I yelled at the TV. Seriously. Any way you can stand up to the moron? Demand the correct tests and meds? Maybe threaten a little? Sometimes that works for 'me', but then again I have a habit of calling my idiot doctor " insane " . Actually, if I remember correctly, I believe I threatened my 1st doc (the one that wrongly destroyed my thyroid) with a malpractice suit if he didn't Rx Armour. So he did. He's like 6'6 " and I'm 4' 11.5 " tall and I stood up to him and did not back down, and I won. Guest guest
First off, I'm not a doctor, so take everything I say with a grain fo salt (sea salt). Initially when a human begins whole natural thyroid meds, it si wise to first begin adrenal support. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/ http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/mistakes-patients-make/ When beginning a whole thyroid med, the typical starting dose is 1-2 grains (60-120mg). There may be an initial " get-used-to " period when cells wake up, but this passes within a week or so. When, and if, symptoms return in a few weeks, or months, an increase in dose is warranted (typical increase is 1/2 - 1 grain - 30-60mg). And in a few weeks or months if symptoms return, another increase is warranted. This may (or may not) continue until symptoms no longer return - this would be at the optimum dose for the individual. Please note that if thyroid tests are run, and you are at an optimal dose, the Free T3 and Free T4 will most likely be a bit above, or substantially above the high normal range (my serum levels are huge), and the TSH will be supressed. If saliva testing the thyroid hormones, tissue levels will be almost perfect. Interesting, huh? When the thyroid is regulated, it's far easier to regulate the other hormones. Don't forget to read this website in detail... http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ And if you proceed with self-treating, is is wise to join a thyroid support group such as the Natural thyroid hormone Group http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormones/?yguid=181992203 or the Yahoo Thyroid Group. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/thyroid/?yguid=181992203 Don't go it alone...seriously... Yes, but just a bit less then the Free T3. T4 is a storage hormone. T3 come from T4. Seriously, the Free T3 (your T3 that's circulating and available) should be a bit on the high side. >i have almost every hypo symptom in the book...it sound like hypo, >right? If you feel like crap and your body temp is 98 or below, you're probably right. >also is it save to use natural thyroid supplements while pregnant? Whole natural thyroid meds are the best. If one is pregnant and hypO, the body will tap the thyroid hormones from the fetus, which can be disasterous or fatal to the fetus. Synthetic T4 does not always do the job (I personally think it's crap). Giving the body ALL the thyroid hormones when there's a need for them, seems to do a better job. I think it's at about 20 weeks that the fetus develops a thyroid that a hypO mother's body can sap, and this is, so I'm told, about the time most miscarrages occur (I just read this on the Yahoo thyroid group this morning). Guest guest
dear, listen: all your Mom can do is try out different natural (i.e. harmless) options, although it needs a few days up to a week or two, to " take " , especially if her body is used to pain d r u g s. I take several of them that I alternate with, because of my fibromyalgia and osteo- plus in one place rheumatoid arthritis. Right now I have to take pretty much all of them, once or twice/day. Arthritis is pain in the joints, and fibromyalgia is pain in the muscles/nerves. Both of mine come and go in waves, usually several hours a day, mostly bad first part of the day. Walking, though often painful at the start, is very important, to get the circulation/nutrients to the pain-places. I too, like your Mom, sometimes have that pain down the leg that feels like the sciatic spasm, from the waist down, especially when there is rain forecast... (Let me just mention that when I was on the WP, I hardly felt any of those pains, and now since I take Lugol's iodine drops 2-4/day, for the thyroid (don't need Armour anymore), I also sleep much better, it also helps my the adrenals to better cope with (pain-) stress. Btw Dr. Abrams says that iodine/iodide protects a l l the organs of the body from cancer. When I'm really in pain I usually can't sleep well either. For both complaints the body needs more support for pain relief with production of serotonin in the brain, which happens when I take - 3-5 times/day, (plus melatonin at night) 100mg 5 HTP + 1 St. 's Wort herbal capsule + 1-100mg B complex Furthermore I take, distributed over the day : - " Avovida " or whatever name product that has a combo of avocado and soy extract combination, morning and night. - " Hyal joint " Hyaluronic acid with it - " Celadrin " , 3 capsules, another - newest and praised - group of fatty acids for bones, 1-2x/day - Bromelain 500-1000 mg 2-3x/day between meals - Niacinamide 3-5x/day 250mg every 3 hours when needed, I halve the 500mg capsules since it has to be 250mg (according to Dr. newsletters, one of the best international MD/NDs). - 1500mg Glucosamine + 500mg MSM + 1Vit D capsule + 1Boron + 8grams of whey protein powder (about tsp which I mix into some tea or juice, it is pre-digested and goes right to the repair-needing places) It works very well for me to also take with it: - Salmon or Perilla (with enough jOmega 3) EFAs oils 3-5 capsules with meals if possible, and 1 tbsp coconut oil, (the SPECTRUM brand is easy to take on a piece of rye bread with a little salt, mmmhh!) If your Mom has trouble swallowing severl/many pills by themselves, have her take it in some fruit or avocado juice a n d water. So there you have the smorgasbord from which you can choose. You may not like it because you like the simple solutions. But it sure beats going to the hospital (and catching pneumonia jor something else...?) When it comes to heal at the cause with naturalmeans, and not the symptoms with drugs, it's a bit more complicated, especially when it's gotten chronic..!. You can get many of these supplements from Swanson's catalogue (i-net), far cheaper than the healthfood stores, since your Mom needs a lot of them round the clock if it's bad. These natural food supplements pretty much all work together. You may already know that for older folks or those with aches and pains, it is very important to take food enzymes with meals so the body can better accomplish digestion (of especially protein and fats) so it won't produce toxic proteins that attack body tissue/bone. Anti oxidants are a must, too. Good night, and good luck !(have you seen that movie?) Guest guest
Hi Charlotte -- I thank you in advance for all your suggestions. My mom is quite another story that is too complicated to go into here-- I have just successfully gotten her to see an osteopath and she's going for therapy and that is a big plus because she never took care of her pain in any way with any supplement or hormone. Doctors gave her Premarin and she gained 30 pounds so she stopped it and that was that. She now is caretaker of my dad who in an invalid and she barely has time to get to the doctor for her own problems. I can't give her this stuff without being seen by someone - preferably a thyroid doctor. She is allergic to EVERYTHING. She gets hives that are to die from and she's had that problem all her life. Her body is SCREAMING thyroid problems, but none of her doctors send her to a thyroid doc. They just give her medication to treat her symptoms. I can't forget the time I went to my dermatologist with dermatitis so bad (many years ago) and I asked him what causes this? He just looked at me and rolled his eyes and handed me a tube of cream. They aren't interested in getting to the cause are they? - In rhythmicliving , " Charlotte N.
