Re: Sublingual intake of Armour

Hi Janie,

I was thinking the same thing (maybe she was some sort of " expert " or

something). You know, I went back there and did a search to see if

there were a lot of people having problems with Armour, and I really

didn't find anything. Quite to the contrary - lots of Armour

advocates. So, I just ran into a " bump in the road " so to speak. LOL

Hi Gracia,

I'm sorry to tell you this, but Broda died on November 1,

1988. I know that Dr. Brownstein is a huge follower of Dr. '

ideas, is it him who is writing it?

You are Welcome Jill. I'm far from an expert, but I'm learning a lot

from this group. We are glad that you joined and hopefully you will

start feeling better.

Hi, I know Broda barnes is dead LOL. I actually went to see him in 1978 in

CO. He gave me thyroid meds and they made me nervous so I didn't go back. I

had been told I was hyper and had a partial thyroidectomy, so I thought I didn't

need thyroid. Sad and stupid because I really did. The doc I have now is a

Broda doc (from their list). His name is Joe Py, D.O. like the weed, and

he is writing the book. He told me that I should have started out very slowly

on thyroid meds way back when. That's why I think the term " hyper " is so

misleading.

There is someone over there who considers herself quite an expert, but I think

she doesn't know that much. She is a doctor wannabee. She is the one taking

Hi ,

That's a good idea. However, my vitamin is taken twice a day - three

capsules in each dose with meals. Plus I take Citracal twice a day

too, since the iron in my supplement interfers with my calcium

absorption. So, I don't want to take it all right at bedtime.

Unless I change my vitamin. Not sure. Good suggestion though.

Thanks.

I need to check out your doctor. Does he have a website that I can

I feel ya,..mine is 2x a day, so I take one a few hours after my thyroid

meds (I get up at 5 am, take a pill, when I get to work I take my first

vitamin at 9 ish) and the other before bed. Hopefully by the time I am on

armour I can do my vitamin just once a day.

take my vitamins, I should be alright. Thanks again, oh wise one! :)

I don't know if he has a website but I will ask. He is very busy I guess

working in Maine and Mass. He is about 40, handsome, smart and charming, and

really committed to endocrine health. He is so understanding that I am sure he

has suffered thyroid problems himself.

Zina..

I'm the first to admit that my regime is outrageous... but my system has

always been really sensitive to dosage changes and such so as I gradually

increased my dosage since I started taking thyroid again in July I did it

a quarter tablet at a time....

First it was 1 quarter a day, in the morning...after 6 weeks it was 1

quarter in the morning and the 2nd quarter 12 hours later....after 6

weeks it was one quarter in the morning.. 2nd quarter 6 hours later and

the 3rd quarter 6 hours after that...get the picture?

Vitamins were added to the regime in November (before that I couldn't

afford them so wasn't able to take any) Adrenal supplement was started in

November, daily, stopped in December... restarted in late February, now

taken every third day...Iron supplement started 1 week ago.

So... current schedule...

Wake up between 6 and 6:30

Out of bed between 6:30 and 7 am

8 oz of filtered water

7 am 1/2 grain OTC thyroid - sublingual

8 am 1/4 tablet adrenal supplement every 3rd day - sublingual

8:30 am breakfast followed by 1/3 tablet of generic vitamin (Centrum

Silver equivalent - no iron)

10 am 1/2 grain OTC thyroid - sublingual

noon lunch followed by 1/3 tablet of generic vitamin (Centrum Silver

equivalent - no iron)

1 pm 1/2 grain OTC thyroid - sublingual

2 pm only if hungry (growling tummy not just hungry in my head) piece of

plain homemade bread or cupcake (no icing)

4 pm 1/2 grain OTC thyroid - sublingual

5 pm dinner followed by 1/3 tablet of generic vitamin (Centrum Silver

equivalent - no iron)

7 pm 1/2 grain OTC thyroid - sublingual

10 pm 90% daily requirement of iron supplement (1/4 tablet) swallowed

with about 4 oz of water.

in bed between 10 and 10:30.. asleep between 10:30 and 11 (unless its a

bad night for pain.. then who knows...)

Exercises (stretching and isometrics) are done during the half hour after

waking and before sleeping.. while in bed.. more comfortable to do the

stuff on the bed then on the floor.

I work from home, that's why I can have such a weird schedule. Most of

the time my body reminds me it's time for a pill before the alarm goes

off to remind me.. I have a program on the computer that flashes a

reminder to take each pill so that I don't forget.

I DO NOT nap during the day.. if I can't sleep at night I'm SOL - that

has been the only way I've found to reduce bouts of insomnia... sleep has

to be during sleep time or I have to stay awake until next sleep time.. I

find that I have fewer problems with sleepless nights that way.

I don't have afternoon crashes.. but I do have some bad days where I'm

dead tired all day... haven't figured out the whys for that yet.. haven't

determined the pattern.

I have pretty much cut caffeine consumption down to nil.. it's now an

infrequent treat. I drink mostly filtered water (tap water is on a

softener and is too salty). I try to do at least a half gallon of water a

day... except for the half glass that I take with the iron tab at bed

time I stop drinking fluids about 2 hours before bed, it's really cut

down on midnight bathroom runs.. So I dont' wake during the night and

have trouble going back to sleep. Occasionally soft drinks or fruit

juice.

I'll be increasing my Thyroid intake by another quarter tab as soon as I

place my next order (I don't want to run out and I'm still a bit short on

money) since I'll be taking a tablet and a half at that point I plan on

taking half tablets (1 grain) per dose.. three times a day - 1/2 tablet

every 6 hours (so 7 am, 1 pm, and 7 pm)....

I don't know if that actually answers your question.. but I wanted to

share what my schedule was.. it does work for me.. someone with a really

dosage sensitive system.

LOL Could you imagine, being married to somebody like him - you'd

Did you guys know that it's best to take your vitamins with meals? The

vitamins bind with components in the food that makes them work better....

And by splitting your vitamins to eat some with each meal is even

better.. it allows more efficient absorption...

Just something I learned with I was a body builder...

That is why I chose an iron free vitamin/mineral supplement when I was

able to afford vitamins again.. to be able to spread out the intake of

vitamins without the iron and calcium content of the vitamins interfering

with the absorption of the thyroid hormone. Now I've added just a simple

iron supplement at bedtime... to be taken just before bed.. to reduce the

effect on thyroid absorption while the iron is available in the blood

stream.
