Guest guest
, do you drink enough water? JenSubject: Re: / carb intakeTo: exercisevideos Date: Monday, October 10, 2011, 6:11 PM Then my next suggestion is eat more. Seriously. You do some very heavy duty workouts, it sounds like your body is demanding more fuel, feed it. You will NOT gain weight if you're eating healthy foods and only to satisfaction not past that. There's no reason to walk around hungry; that's depriving your body of fuel and probably making you less energetic, productive and possibly affecting your mood too (which can also trigger eating binges). EAT! :-) Re: / carb intake you're really eating. Have you tried getting more protein? Protein is the most satisfying thing you can eat for hunger. Also, combining protein with a complex carb (whole grains, fruits, veggies) is a super satisfying combination! Like I was telling Donna, I eat all day long and it doesn't matter what I have I'm still hungry. ~
Guest guest
I agree that if you take in more calories than you burn, no matter what they are, you're going to gain but the quality of the food you eat also plays a role. Simple carbs (sugar, white flour) are broken down very quickly by the body so some of it gets used but more will be stored (and I don't understand the mechanisms well enough to explain it, maybe Tonya or someone else will). They also cause the blood sugar to spike because they're broken down so fast. You also get hungry again more quickly after eating them because they're broken down so fast. Complex carbs (whole grains, vegetables) break down much more slowly and contain a lot of fiber which also contributes to feelings of satiety. More of the food is used by the body, keeping blood sugar levels even and there is less of it left for the body to store as fat. Some complex carbs might even have the same or very close to the same calorie count as equivalent simple carbs but the complex ones are less likely to be stored as fat and are better choices for weight loss and overall health. So no, carbs don't make you fat but if you focus on simple carbs you're probably more likely to eat a lot more because you'll be hungry again quickly and will consume more calories overall. I really use to love carbs but lately realized I have only been eating some quinoa or maybe a flat out in a week.. just didn't have in house... I do eat veggies like crazy..but for some reason I love nuts..or cheese... maybe because I am a little both.. nutty and cheesey I'd starve to death because i wouldn't know what to eat. There are carbs in EVERYTHING. ~
Guest guest
I agree, ! And, a lot of simple carbs are very easy to overeat - think Goldfish Crackers or Pretzels.... but, it would be really hard to overeat carrots or apples b/c you would get full before you could eat too many of them. Guest guest
I know the difference between complex and simple carbohydrates and I eat more complex carbs than simple carbs. My point is that the Low Carb craze isn't healthy because your brain needs carbs to function properly....the more complex the carbs, the better, of course!
