Guest guest
My daughter's constipation (pretty severe) went away in two weeks after putting her on a GFCF diet. We tried everything and nothing worked but this diet. Have you tried this yet? Marty _____ From: mommyjat Sent: Sunday, January 16, 2005 7:04 PM To: Autism_in_Girls Subject: help I have and eight year old daughter and obviously she is autistic. She has severe depression along with an anxiety disorder. She does not like bathrooms sounds ect.. Problem that I am having now is that she is severly constipated and I had to take her to the hospital the other day. They did an exray and took urine sample to make sure she didnt have a urine infection. She didnt. But the dr. said that she was pretty backed up in her colon. They told me to give her an enema which i did and it didnt do a thing. The other issue with her is that she doesnt like to go to the bathroom she holds her urine and her poop for ridiculos amounts of time. I dont know what to do next. Her psychiatrist wants her to have a ultrasound to make sure everything is working correctly. When she gets pain in her stomache she gets very behavioral she has bit and wailed on me and her younger sister. She likes to take baths to relax and make herself feel better.I no longer use bubbles in her bath Im getting worried does anyone have any advice. She takes risperdal seraquel concerta, and lexapro daily.risperdal three times a day seraquel 25mg in am and at lunch and 100mg seraquel at night, concerta in the am lexapro in the am Autism_in_Girls-subscribe ------------------------ Autism_in_Girls-unsubscribe _____

Guest guest
If you cant reduce her meds, and I understand if you cant beleive me do I (says she who's on 5 right now, 2 anticonvulsants, an AP, one for the movement stuff with the AP, and strattera because otherwise Im a blinking idji...and side effects I get include no pee no poop)...Id say diet might be the way to go. Or magnesium. or both. Vitamin C can help too...that'll send it all right through, provided theres not a blockage that's not going anywhere. The supplements might be the EASIEST place to start, since its just adding a couple more pills to the daily regime. And magnesium and Vit. C usually get everything going. Guest guest
How funny! I never thought I'd have discussions on the quantity/ consistency of my daughter's stool - but I have, in detail!! I think every parent in the world goes through this one. Just as I've gotten older, I never would have believed that the topic of the weather would be of great interest to me - now I watch the weather channel - HA! Guest guest
Hi -- We need more teachers like you!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to understand autism! 1. What is an average day like for you and your child? There isn't an average day. There are good days and bad days. Something can happen out of his routine to set him off or he can just not be feeling well (there are a lot of undiagnosed intestinal and seizure problems that accompany autism) and things that don't normally bother him, set him off. Loud sounds, fire alarm, somebody said something mean to him or took his toy. . . .But fortunately we have more good days in the last couple of years because he's easier to redirect, has a wider range of interests, is completely verbal--I can have a conversation with him.. . . . Although most days are intense--that's for sure. 2. What are some common educational or communicational problems you have experienced with your child? Intolerance for tantrums, system is too rigid to accomodate changes that these kids need, or not adequate prepare/compensate child for unexpected changes in the system. Intolerance of behavioral acting out of any kind. Lack of social skills training in teachers or social skill support programs for these kids like a circle of friends, lunch or playground buddies, etc. Also, social skills are more than just " say please and thank you, don't push, and clean up your mess. " Can the child appropriately get a peer's attention? Can the child appropriately get a teacher's attention? Can the child request something (toy, crayon, etc.) from a peer? Can the child get something that someone is pointing to? (most of these kids don't follow group instructions well or teacher's gestural or other pragmatic language prompts such as differences in tones of voice etc. and I have NEVER seen any IEPs written to address these deficits.) Dr. Joanne Gerenser at Eden2 in New York has developed some programing to address this, and you may be interested to read what she has done, www.eden2.org. Also, just because a child may be able to academically do the work does not mean he doesn't need supports. there are many socially vulnerable children in schools--not just those who are on the spectrum. often these kids fall through the cracks because the school wants to only address the most severe problems. Yes, I know funding is a problem, but many, many kids are leaving public school to be homeschooled because their social deficiencies are not being addressed in middle and high school. I think this goes back to the issue of a lack of understanding about interpersonal social skills. 3. What helps you to get through hard times? Prayer 4. What would you like the average person or teacher to know about your child and other children with Autism? autism is not equivalent to mental retardation and should not be handled as such. Most programs in school are designed to be very stimulating to children with mental retardation. These classrooms overwhelm a child with autism. Also perhaps most importantly, just because a person may have had experience with one person with autism does not make that person an expert on autism. Children are so varied that one professional who sole practice consisted of children with autism commented that not until someone had seen about 50 kids, did one start to see overlap. A teacher needs to have a questionnaire to get to know each child: How does the child communicate? How many requests can the child make? What kinds of things does the child like to do, favorite activities? What kinds of sensitivities does the child have (sound, light, texture)? How is the child's toileting? How many children can the child tolerate being around? Can the child tolerate being touched? Again, thank you for doing this survey. Have you thought about applying to sit on the autism rules committee that is looking at the autism supplement with an eye towards adding ABA, communication strategies, and inclusion? Follow the list to see about how to apply. There will be a lot of info out in the next week. S

Guest guest
It could just be a normal healing regression, but it sounds like the yeast is flaring up. Are you giving lots of probiotics? Candex also helps. Also, when doing a viral therapy, many people have problems controlling the yeast. You may need to look into an rx to keep the yeast down. Jenn > > Hi all, > I started my duaghter on naturals OLE and virastop which i beleive are both anti virals along with natural antifungal like grape fruit seed extract drops starting at low doses both for about 2 weeks now and my daughter has regressed behaviour wise she got more sound sensitive to the sounds she usually tolerates pretty well, going out to grocery stores is scary for her . MY daughter is potty trained most part except for when going out of the house and during night time but now she more times seems to pee in her pants with out her even sensing that . Is the regression to be expected with antiviral/antifungals naturals ? Guest guest
Yes, you can expect aggravations (regressions) from die-off effects after using antivirals or antifungals. Activated charcoal can reduce the problem in many cases, allowing you to maintain an effective therapeutic dose. If the regression continues, more detective work is necessary. Guest guest
One must also be careful with activated charcoal-too much can deplete the body of necessary minerals. be careful not to give it too close to the necessary supplements the child needs. maurine"G.
