I was so excited yesterday I forgot to check the hurricane updates! I never saw the Saddleback conversation, will have to look for it.

What saddens me is the controversy going around Christian BBs about women not holding civil office.

Where are the bumper stickers?!

Yes, some people think that the verse that says women should be ‘keepers

at home” means that they should not hold jobs outside the home.

Women who do not claim to be Christian have also commented that

they do not think that the mother of a child with special needs should run for office

because they themselves were very busy with their child due to the therapies,

medical concerns, etc.

And I can understand that to a point, but to be fair, it does

look like Gov Palin has a very good support system.

I think that it is interesting that no one makes that comment

when a man who has a child w/special needs runs for office;-)

Ok.. I am following you about the " keepers". But still. Gee whiz.. looks like she cooks ! She fired her chef !

Sad that people think that she should not just because her child has an SN. Seriously.. reflects the need for more inclusion. Why should she stop doing something just because her son has DS? I admit though that when I heard a rumor ( maybe on this list ) MONTHS ago..that she might be the running mate.. I thought.. NAH.. she will decline cause her son will need her. But looks like she takes him to work etc.. What a awesome lady.

I heard a rumor too the she home schools. But I have not confirmed that one. When she fired her chef though.. that made the news. She felt it was a luxury that Alaskans should not pay for.

Rumors are wonderful things, aren’t they? There is one floating

around now that Trig is not her son…that her daughter was pg, and Gov Palin is

pretending that Trig is her son instead of her grandson!(I kid you not). People

are really desperate….I hope she has a thick skin, because the smear campaigns might

I gather the reasoning behind that 'no one makes that comment when a man has a child with special needs runs for office..' is duly noted that thruout history it has been the women who stayed home caring for 'such' children. It was usually the woman' who stayed with the children PERIOD...

I never had that luxury until the late 90's, as I always had to work and raise my kiddos single handed. I would not trade any of those times ever...To be honest I think those were the best of the worst!!!

Ah, remember behind every successful man is a WOMAN (She can bring home the bacon, fry it up in the pan, and never ever let him forget he's a man) An olde ad for ENJOLI perfume during my day!!! Got carried away!

Yes, some people think that the verse

that says women should be ‘keepers at home” means that they should

not hold jobs outside the home.

Women who do not claim to be Christian have

also commented that they do not think that the mother of a child with special

(Please note my hard drive was corrupted last night and I have to

post via the yahoo site, so please excuse if the format is weird!)

I have no beef against or for the Polar Bears, but I am all for

drilling. The majority of people in Alaska want it too. It is one

of the things that got her elected as Governor. The drilling

companies are allot more environmentally friendly than they used to

be, and the jobs and revenue to the state would be a huge boost to

their economy. Not to mention lessening our dependence on foreign

oil. Heck, I'm all for the drilling to start up again in Texas (some

have, but not enough). Texas was very prosperous during the oil

boom.

Like McCain, I am for the states having more control about what

happens in their state; whether it be drilling for oil, or deciding

where the education funds can be utilized. That way, the community

decides what is best for their state.

I will never understand how the federal government can make a blanket

decision, and then expect the people in Rhode Island and the people

in Texas to have the same outcome. McCain favors lifting a federal

ban on off-shore drilling and leaving the decision up to individual

states. While one federal decision is right for Rhode Island, it has

been devastating for Texas.

I feel our federal government has too many irons in the fire, which

makes it ineffective on the things that it should have control of,

like foreign policy, our troops, and our security. McCain supports a

smaller federal government giving more rights to the states, while

what I've read of Obama views, he wants to give the federal

government much more control over everything from our individual

healthcare choices to how a company in your state can distribute

their employees and needs. I'm not saying that it's not important

for there to be some governmental control on these issues. I just

think you should put it into the hands of those who can control it

best.

Understand I am now a major McCain supporter ( now that Palin is one board I am DANCING to the polls as opposed to holding my nose) . But states rights have their " dark side" too.

Normally I am all for it.. but in our recent IEP adventure, I found that the federal government left it up to the states on if it considers homeschooling a " private school". How does this fit with our kids?? well it is the final factor on if they are eligible for state ( public school) funded therapies.

Yes.. My state of Ohio does not recognize home schools as a private school. Texas does. So.. While I am for smaller government I do wish that sometimes they would use a blanket. I think they have their bed made backward : )

Good point!

I can't relate to the school issue because I am in TX. I like

the " bed made backwards " comparison. :)

I am by no means an expert on governments, etc. but if one wanted to

join or organize a group to change or modify that issue, it seems

like it might be easier to change it on a state level rather than a

federal level. I think that's how it's supposed to work anyway.

“Understand

I am now a major McCain supporter ( now that Palin is one board I am DANCING to

the polls as opposed to holding my nose)” .

Ha..this is a pretty accurate description of me, too…

We didn’t put Danny in preschool or get services from the

schools..our insurance paid for private speech therapy. Do you have any

universities in your area? Sometimes they have students who can provide

therapy under the direction of their professors(Danny has sessions with a

college student who is majoring in Communicative Disorders (speech therapist

student) He has 1 hr sessions with the student(and her prof) for free.

Students need hands on learning, so it is a good thing for them,

too.

Understand

I am now a major McCain supporter ( now that Palin is one board I am DANCING to

the polls as opposed to holding my nose) . But states rights have

their " dark side " too.

Normally

I am all for it.. but in our recent IEP adventure, I found that the federal

government left it up to the states on if it considers homeschooling a

" private school " . How does this fit with our kids?? well it is

the final factor on if they are eligible for state ( public school) funded

therapies.

Yes..

My state of Ohio does not recognize home schools as a private school. Texas

does. So.. While I am for smaller government I do wish that sometimes

they would use a blanket. I think they have their bed made backward : )

Re: Palin/McCain

(Please note my hard drive was corrupted last

night and I have to

post via the yahoo site, so please excuse if the format is weird!)

I just

think you should put it into the hands of those who can control it

best.

Several.. Good Idea !

We ended up having three options with our school district. Preschool, Speech therapy, or an hour a week with a Itinerant teacher who consulted with therapists at a location other than my Home.

We took the later. Just to make them give us something. Cause originally we had been told it was preschool or NOTHING. I spent two weeks making phone calls, reading Idea, etc blah Blah.

I am sure our insurance would do something.. and may look into it. But By gum I pay taxes : ) and none of my kids are in the public school system.

I am already hoping for a Palin for Prez shirt : )

I meant to say that apraxia is a neurological problem…just be sure

that they don’t use codes with the word ‘developmental’, because insurance

companies are weird about that one. And if you get turned down, appeal.

Our insurance covered speech therapy

when the doctor wrote a prescription for it..BE CAREFUL, though…some

insurances try to get out of paying by saying that they won’t pay for

‘habilitative’ therapy …so make sure that your doctor doesn’t use a diagnosis

of Down Syndrome(developmental diagnosis) to request speech therapy…use a

physical diagnosis “apraxia” (or some other physical diagnosis..”Down syndrome”

is *not* the cause of speech problems..low muscle tone, problems with

motor planning, etc are the problems.. if you put Ds as the diagnosis and

reason for the child needing speech therapy, many insurance companies will turn

you down because they will not pay for therapy for ‘developmental diagnoses’ .

So you have to be careful with the codes the doc uses when ordering the therapy.

Here is another link for ways to fund

speech therapy:

yes- I agree- something else that is backwards in Ohio is that our state autism scholarship will pay for up to 20,000 a year for a homeschooled child who has autism to have therapy and yet they will not give other homeschooled children anything because they are not a school.
