Welcome to the group ! You made the right

decision on using Taebo as your workout. This is a

great group of people who just love to talk about

Taebo, so don't worry about asking any questions and

we all were beginners at one time or another and we

won't ignore you. Which tapes are you planning on

getting?

I would recommend the Get Ripped series, they are by

far the best value money wise and they are great

workouts. You get an Instructional, 8-min, 2 basic

and 2 advanced tapes. I think that QVC has the best

price for this set but I'm not sure, can anyone else

answer that one for me?

Hi Carol,

Welcome to the group. Glad you joined us! I saw your pics and you're close

enough to your goal that twelve weeks of BFL should make a

really visible difference. Keep us posted on your progress. It sounds like

you're on your way to a great transformation.

Welcome Connie!

I've never heard of this video, but then again, I'm fairly new to video fitness (2 years I think). I'm glad to hear you enjoy this video so much and look forward to hearing about this and other workouts you do!

New member

Hi,My name is Connie. My favorite video is "A Week With Raquel". It's an old video. I like it because it has a short 15 min. different yoga session for each day of the week(like having 7 different videos in one).It allows me to do yoga and feel stretched without taking a long time. Of course, longer yoga sessions are great but I like this video for the option it gives me.

Welcome Martha.

There is a mom Chritina who is also from MN and has done research in

the MN area to get her soon-to-be 3 year old casted for scoliosis.

I'm sure she'll get read your post and provide her feedback.

A curve in the 20 degree area, most surgeons recommend bracing.

However, I would recommend a 2nd opinion by a surgeon who is trained

in casting for scoliosis. I believe the closest in the mid-west is

Shriners Chicago. I've heard great things about Shriners in MN, but

they do not cast for scoliosis.

Max received 10 casts from Dr. Sturm at Shriners Chicago. If you'd

like contact information, I'd gladly help.

We had 4 opinions for Max who will be 3 years in July. Only Dr.

Sturm of Shriners Chicago in the mid-west recommended to cast using

Miss Mehta's method. He was trained by her in late 2006 and hosted

her to train others in Chicago in Aug. 2007.

Get all the opinions you feel you need to make the best choice for

.

I would love to hear from the mom in Minnesota and hear her feedback

on doctors they have seen and so on. I have read some older posts and

correct me if I am wrong, but the doctors who cast and were trained

by Miss Mehta are using a different type of frame than those who are

not? I just saw a post a few back and saw someone talking about a

doctor who does not have the frame? Is that the main difference? I

have also read that the casts are changed every few months. We travel

extensively throughout the summer months, sometimes out of the

Country to visit family and sight see, so I am curious to know if we

decide that casting is a better option for that travel does not

pose a problem and what our options are for doctors overseas to help

us in the event of a problem. I guess if there were a problem we

would go to our nearest hospital for help. Of course I am getting

ahead of myself, but try to think of every possibility.

I hope the mom in Minnesota will post back with her experience here.

Thank you for your information.

Welcome Martha,

As you are gathering information also find out ' RVAD number. There is

an article from Mehta posted in the group here. It is a measure of likelihood

for the curve to progress. The correct table is important as it is child sized

and able to address rotation. Find the post marked Early Treatment Defined. It

will explain the basic non-negociable tennants of Dr. Mehta's method. I think

we are in process of having that posted to the website, but the IT guy is not

quite done yet with the updates. As to travel, I don't know who is available

overseas. I only know of some practicing in Austraila. may have more

info on this.

Again welcome.

finding, has been healthy otherwise with no major medical issues.

Martha,

In addition to the frame, the cutouts are different as well. Appropriate

cutouts are essential! You definitely should get another opinion from a doc

trained in the mehta method.

Thanks . I am trying in between doing housework to read up on

the files and articles on the group. So, it sounds as if most of the

doctors that do this method of casting are within the Shriner's

Hospitals network? I am definitely going to see this Dr. Polly at

Children's and see what his recommendations are and hopefully be able

to take all the information and come to a conclusive decision. I

guess based on what he tells us we can always consult with a

Shriner's Hospital. I looked up Dr. Polly on the hospital's website

and it didn't say anything about casting, so this site so far is the

only place I've seen it mentioned. This has all been a surprise to us

so far. When his pediatrician mentioned he noticed a slight curve, I

basically blew it off, but he urged us to have a film taken anyway.

Am glad we did, I would have never thought in a million years he

would have scoliosis and to be honest I just didn't think about it

striking younger children. Through this site and old posts I see it

even gets younger children as well. You always hear about teens

having it, but nothing of younger children. Seems to be an issue with

awareness and education I suppose. I am just thankful we caught it

early on.

Thanks again for everyone who has responded thus far. I feel better

knowing there is a group of others who are dealing with this and able

and willing to help others.

Hi Martha,

I think the easiest would be for us to talk by phone. I am familiar with Dr

Polly. My son

was not seen by him, but he is familiar with our story. I have talked with his

nurse (sorry

it's been awhile so I do not remember her name.) We met with a different doc -

Dr.

Lonstein at the Twin Cities Spine Center.

Aekta is right - I have talked with numerous nurses in the Mpls ortho community,

but

ultimately ended up traveling for my son's treatment.

Give me a call or shoot me an email privately and we can discuss more.

Hi ,

Sorry to have " met " you in this group...I mean that means there is a problem

with your child but you found a very good group who can emphatize with you more

than care provider. the reason is everybody here is going through or have been

through with what you are experiencing now. I am new and could not really give

you a lot of insights like others here who are so very knowledgeable about the

Will talk to you later. Would you like me to call you? What is your phone.

Welcome to the group. You can go to the photos section of the

group and look under cooling vests to see what they look like. They are

basically a tank top made with stretchy material with pockets on the

back for little ice packs to go in. This is worn over the cast and

creates a cooling affect so the child doesn't get to hot when outside.

we used them all last summer when we went to the zoo and the park. They

work great. If you would like one you need to email and let her

know. They come in a large size and a small size.
