OPRAH

Oprah Winfrey hopefully is receiving emails from each and every one of you. We need to do what ever we can to prevent this from affecting other children and their families. I encourage each and everyone of you to please contact her with your story at her website.Oprah.com.The moment we accept plagiocephaly the moment we have admitted defeat. Remember, we are the fortunate one's who were referred for and received treatment. I can guarantee you all that there are many children who are not being treated. This is almost criminal. It is our duty to do whatever we can to try and prevent plagiocephaly and its effects, both known and unnkown. Please take the time to email her, talk to any reporter , any Government official, the next generation of children will applaud your efforts. Let's not let our children end up being statistics.Children matter. Let's work together to get this done.Oprah Winfrey's stage would be the ultimate avenue. If we don't end up with an hour , 1/2 hour or a 10 minute interview. Even if we don't end up on the show that is not important. The fact that is important is we "tried". I would be satisfied just to hear Oprah say the word "Plagiocephaly" that alone would give validity........Sure Plagiocephaly is not deadly, however, who can put a price on someone'e self esteem due to the possible deformations caused by this condition. I was not prepared to tell my son that he had a deformity from sleeping on his back. Please email Oprah.....everyone.......numbers count..>!!!!!!Plagiocephaly Matters, so do the kids, and so do the parents.....We deserve the respect.......All for now, The Sponagle's in CanadaP.S. If she can do a show about overweight people losing weight for not eating as much food, than I think she just might be interested in Plagiocephaly and all the contoversy that surrounds it.For more plagio info

Oh geez ....that sounded bad. I meant all our letters having an affect, not just mine. Sorry, didn't mean to sound so snobbish.

Plagiocephaly

Subject: OPRAH

I hope I am not beating a dead horse here:

Please if you have not done so, could you please email Oprah.

Numbers count. Our untilmate goal would be to get plagiocephaly

addressed in some way. Either with plagio-kids as guests or just a

warning to new parents. Please. It can not hurt. Your email will be

read. They guarantee it.!!!!

Thanks again,

Jeff Sponagle, Plagio parent in Canada

Please even graduated parents can send an email. The idea here is

awareness. The producers have to realize the amount of people this

is affecting.

I wrote Oprah a long time ago when my daughter first got her band and

I never got a response. I wrote to lots of people. The view ,

dateline etc. None gave me a response which really irritated me. But

I will send one again maybe if it comes in numbers they will pay

attention!

I think this show is going to be about a woman who has had numerous surgeries. I'm not sure whether or not it was a positive or negative experience. We'll see.........

Dear Friend:

My opinion of Oprah is not very good. She did a show sometime ago on a makeover, she called the new ladies breast implants "Her Little Girls". Oprah had paid for this ladies makeover to save her marriage...I think. I have not watched her show for a long time; however, I would be willing to give her another chance. I have written to her over the years, but just got a written note that they had received my letter.

Should we all write to her again?

Love...Lea

Dear Lea,

I have been disappointed in Oprah's shows at times, as well. However,

she does have a huge audience of women and an educational show about

what has been found on explant would be tremendous in getting this

information to women -- those who may consider implants one day,

those who may know someone considering implants one day, those who

have implants, and those who are sick and have implants. Lea, you

have a wonderful way of writing to the point and informative and yet

sounding so nurturing and caring and loving and I urge you to write

or contact Oprah's people again.

Lots of love,

Rochelle

Hi Kathy,

Your idea to write Oprah is a great one. I wonder if Dr. Melmed in Dallas would agree to be on the show as well. I know he has explanted a few people here and even took the time to write me back when I wrote him about implant safety. I read that he refuses to implant any woman. Sounds like a perfect guest!

Kenda

What a beautiful post you have written!! I can guarantee you if I

had read your post before I got implants, I never would have done

it. I am so sorry for all your problems. I feel especially bad

that so many really young ladies like you are getting implants and

getting sick before they even get married or have families. At

least I was in my late thirties before I started getting sick. I

had the support of my husband and my children when I got them out.

My heart goes out to you and all the others like you. But you will

get the word out. Maybe like Kacey, or others, you will become a

spokesperson or get on tv, etc to get the word out. May is almost

here and then you can get those horrid things out of you and start

down your road to recovery!

I was thinking the other night that we all need to write oprah

winfrey. I know she hasn't responded to some of us in the past, but

maybe if we could all deluge her with letters---especially you

younger ones--maybe someday she would listen and do a show. She has

such a huge following. Heck, if she can tell the truth about the

cattle industry, why can't she help her fellow women out here? I

know I am going to write her. As more and more of us get sick and

find out why, we will reach more and more people out there and

hopefully someday the tide will turn on the popularity of implants.

Keep posting, we love hearing from you.

Hugs

kathy

That would be a great idea! I wonder if he would however, he would

be really opening himself up to alot of problems. I know Dr. Feng

was practically roasted by other plastic surgeons for her stand on

breast implants causing harm. They brought her up before their

association and even accused her of telling women implants were

harmful so she could increase business with explants. Doctors who

take unpopular stands against what their peers do often get

crucified for it. But really, with all the MTV episodes airing, I

would think that Oprah might show some interest. Would the women

who were interviewed by MTV consider writing Oprah (again if have in

the past) and telling her about the MTV episodes? It is still worth

a try.

Kathy,

Do you want me to email Dr. Melmed? He and I corresponded several times when I was considering implants.

Kenda

Kenda

It is still worth

a try.

Dr. Melmed has given a number of interviews and spoke

to the FDA on our behalf (I think he's going to again

in April.

I know he's caught some flack over his position, but

he's big enough to take it. He's not your ordinary

doctor! . . . He's originally from South Africa. I

wonder if that's got anything to do with it.

In South Africa, attorney's consider it malpractice to

take a percentage of a settlement. They work on a flat

rate. Can you imagine lawyers working like that here?

Hugs,

Rogene

It would be interesting to hear his reply. If he said he would be

interested, perhaps Oprah would be more interested in doing a show

with a respected doctor instead of just our stories. Let us know if

his reply if you do email him. thanks

Kathy,

I just wrote him. I’ll let you know if he responds. Have you ever seen this: http://www.aboutmytalk.com/t175518/s & .html ? This woman has received a lot of airtime, including having her explanation filmed. Do you know who she is? Perhaps she would like to talk to Oprah too?

Kenda — who is now on your mission to get the truth out :)

Kenda

It would be interesting to hear his reply. If he said he would be

interested, perhaps Oprah would be more interested in doing a show

with a respected doctor instead of just our stories. Let us know if

his reply if you do email him. thanks

kathy

Hi Kenda,

Yes, we know Kacey! She is originally from our group, and we got her

connected to MTV. After they did her story, she set out on a

whirlwind media blitz with her implant nightmare, appearing on many

shows and in magazines. She is on a University tour currently,

sharing her story with college students, which is awesome. We are

all so proud of her accomplishments, and speaking out for all of

us. Her website is at www.implantsout.com

MTV also did Kristi's story several years ago, and they did a great

job. Both Kacey and Kristi got a bit more air time than le

did. I will be interested to see how the other girls stories go

that are upcoming...I know that they filmed Shari, Colleen, and

, all from our group.

I am so pleased you are going to share in our mission of getting the

truth out about implants! You are too cool...thanks for being here

and being such a wonderful participant. Knowing that you have been

able to overcome your fibromyalgia through detoxing is a great

source of encouragement not only to me, but to many others here, I

am sure. And of course, I am delighted that you've changed your

mind about getting implants. I appreciate all the info you've been

able to share about your healing from fibromyalgia.

Hugs,

Patty

Hi Patty,

Thank you, you are so kind. I was beginning to feel like it was time for me to leave, since I don’t have implants, haven’t and won’t. If there is any way I can help, please let me know.

Detoxing seems to be an ongoing effort for those of us challenged in this way. Initially when I started taking the AdvaClear, I felt worse but this is a symptom of a toxic liver. I cut back the dose until I could tolerate it and gradually increased it. My doctor has added different supplements and taken them away when he felt it necessary. I first started about 5 years ago, kicked the fibro but have decided to continue because from time to time I feel like it could come back. It used to scare the heck out of me but I now know if I take care of myself, it won’t. In my genetic testing it showed that I have a weak detoxing system so I guess that’s why I’m the way I am. I eat a mostly organic diet, all organic at home, not when I go out.

I know it’s impossible to work out when you feel so sick but as soon as I was able, I got into the gym with a trainer — five years ago. I had a herniated disc, no energy and felt sick but was determined. About a year later I started a yoga class. I weight train three days a week, do cardio three days and yoga twice and occasionally mountain bike ride when the weather is nice. I really believe exercise is important in getting the toxins out and to feeling better. Yoga, even gentle yoga is so good for the spirit and adds flexibility, something fibro robbed my body of. Even a short walk outside can do wonders for you, it’s great exercise and being outside always brightens my mood.

There really is hope for all of you with toxic bodies. I lived with fibro and all sorts of other “diseases” for more than five years. I truly thought I was dying and even had an AIDS test! It was back when AIDS was first getting airtime and the commercials suggested everyone get tested. I thought this must be it, I contracted it a different, new way the doctors don’t even know about — maybe from a restaurant. Of course the test was negative. :)

One question I have is did any of you have autoimmune symptoms before implants or did the implants trigger your first episode? I know the implant companies claim that women who develop autoimmune problems post implants would have anyway in their lifetime so the implant isn’t at fault. In my case that may be true because I have a history of autoimmune problems. I am symptom free now but the implants could have triggered the problems to come back.

Hi Kenda,

Nope, no autoimmune problems in my family, yet I became critically ill anyway.

It sounds like you have alot to offer this group even though you haven't had implants.. thank god.. you made the right choice. So, keep sharing.

Thank you, Dawn. I am so thankful I’m not having the surgery. I cancelled with my plastic surgeon yesterday. :) I’ll share what I can.

Hi, I'm new to this post and saw your message. I

don't know your whole story though but if you could

rehash with me what you had and how you cured it. I

have autoimmune hashimotos and frankly think I did

have this prior to my implants. My first symptoms

were in 95--96 when I started to develop white spots

to my skin esp. on my neck and chest area. My husband

first noticed it. I didn't do anything about it, it

never occurred to me then, I thought it was just part

of me. Then in 96 right around menopause I lost a

chunk of hair center front. Since I have so much no

one else noticed it and I thought it was from

menopause and would grow back. Well, it's almost 9 yrs

and it hasn't. Then I had the implants in 98, and I

see from photos now that my hair looked flat and dull

afterwards....I was diagnosed hashimotos in 02 but can

honestly say I don't know if it was from implants,

saline, because my mother has hypothyroid but not

hashis. From then it was downhill, I could and have

never been regulated with meds.....I live out of the

US and every dr here puts me on the same levythroxine.

My hair was continuing to fallout but in Dec 04, I

went to a homeopath and he put me on silica and then

stopped the (visible) hairloss. However, there is no

regrowth so my hair looks weak and thin on top and

temples. Now I am worried this is AGA because it

seems like the pattern. I still have lots of hair on

back and sides but the top is very thin. I am almost

losing underarm and you-know-where hair, much thinner.

My skin is very dry as well. For the month few

months I have felt really awful, now I can barely get

through the day...I have no energy and feel like I'm

dying really, just wasting away...yesterday I had

blood work and my iron came out ok (109), I am waiting

for the testosterone results. My thryoid antibodies

have been increasing and I can't regulate my meds. I

was considering going on armour rather than the

synthetic meds.. and I am considering removing the

implants although I am completely flat which was ok

when I was young, now I think I will look deformed,

and I can honestly say I don't know if these are the

cause of my problems.....Perhaps detoxing is the

answer, or can you help me out here?

PS: A naturopath dr gave me adrenal and liver detox

drops but when I take them, it seems to interfere with

my thyroid meds because my tsh always increases.

Also, I don't feel good while taking them as well. A

homeopath dr here just prescribed thyroidium, and

pulsatilla but I don't know if I should take as well.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. (Sorry it's so

long, I'm just getting it all out)...

Kenda,

It seems that women who have a family history of

autoimmune problems are more likely to develop

problems.

ey, who had breast implants for a

deformity at 18 had four children who were

progressively more ill. . . She did extensive genetic

testing on her entire family and learned they had a

genetic propensity for autoimmune problems. She

considers that implants were the trigger. ..

Especially the chemicals that the particular batch

number that her implants were made from.

Here's an article on her daughter . Hillary has

dramatic health issues. But that hasn't stopped her

from helping others.

http://www.komu.com/html/htmlsStories/bigheart032905.htm

I recently started a support group for the families of

children affected by implants. Siliconekids. is

a member of the group. She's knows a number of other

families with affected children. She tells me that her

daughter, , is not the most seriously affected!

It's all so terribly sad!

That is great news about how you kicked your fibro. It really can

take alot of work! I might look into the advaclear. I definitely

have detoxification problems! I can't eliminate toxins well! You

asked if people who get sick from implants already had autoimmune

problems first. Some do, I did. I had had fibromyalgia for at

least eight years before that. But the implants not only made it

worse, I then developed mixed connective tissue disease--which is

basically autoimmune disease with no clear features of any one in

particular. But it appears that I am in the minority of the women

here with most of them having had no knowledge of any prior

problems. Most claim to have been wonderfully healthy until after

getting implants. I would say that implants definitely tax the

immune system and women predisposed to that kind of thing, it will

be the straw that broke the camel's back. Most of us, with the

right amount of triggers, can develop autoimmune problems. Sure,

there are women out there with a strong genetic background who

probably will never get sick from implants, but there is no way to

identify who upfront who will and who won't get sick from implants.

Besides,it isn't all about immunity. Some women will get sick

because their implants become contaminated. And there is no way to

predict that either. The safest thing is just not to provoke our

bodies by putting foreign objects intend to them! I am so glad you

decided not to and that you are compassionate enough to want to

prevent other women from making that mistake even when you could

Hi Rogene,

This is exactly how Mentor and other implant companies get off the hook, they claim that the women were “sick”’ to begin with. I’d love to see a blood test for ANA on every woman considering implants. Let the government monitor the women and see if there is a higher incidence of implant-related disease in high ANA women. This could be one way to predict illness in women. If women knew a high ANA prior to implantation meant that they had a greater risk for disease, they might give implants more thought. I was told I had a less than 1% chance of developing any problems related to implants and that it was “not proven” that implants can cause any autoimmune problems by three plastic surgeons. I felt extremely comfortable with a 1% chance of problems. It wasn’t until Dr. Leu asked me about past ANA tests that I became concerned. He tested me and it was normal but I recalled a past ANA being positive and ordered a copy of the lab. I had two abnormal ANA tests, one 10 years ago, the other 12 years ago.

Implants seem to be safe for a large number of women. The government needs to figure out why they aren’t safe for ALL women and expose the truth. I have many friends and family members who thankfully have had no complications of any kind with their implants but that doesn’t mean that they are safe for everyone. The FDA bans drugs that harm people, why not implants? Obviously it’s because they are such a large money maker.

I was talking to a friend yesterday who was telling me about a friend of hers who has three children. The last of the three was conceived and born while the mother had silicone implants. She breastfed the baby. Today, that one child has many, many health problems. She’s convinced it’s the implants. Seems pretty likely.

Kenda

Kenda,

It seems that women who have a family history of

autoimmune problems are more likely to develop

problems.

ey, who had breast implants for a

deformity at 18 had four children who were

progressively more ill. . . She did extensive genetic

testing on her entire family and learned they had a

genetic propensity for autoimmune problems. She

considers that implants were the trigger. ..

Especially the chemicals that the particular batch

number that her implants were made from.

Here's an article on her daughter . Hillary has

dramatic health issues. But that hasn't stopped her

from helping others.

I recently started a support group for the families of

children affected by implants. Siliconekids. is

a member of the group. She's knows a number of other

families with affected children. She tells me that her

daughter, , is not the most seriously affected!

It's all so terribly sad!

Hugs,

Rogene

Hi Kathy!

There are so many commonalities between the women on this list. It sure seems that a study could be done to determine what is going on with implants that are supposed to be safe. Why are women developing infections? Is it the surgeon, is it the implant? Or maybe it’s the woman’s body? Answers need to be found out!

I had a feeling implants weren’t a good thing but you all have convinced me of how bad they can be. I think all women deserve to know what they are getting themselves into before the surgery. It outrages me that we are told we have a 1% chance of developing any complication and that autoimmune problems are not caused by implants. They can use whatever verbiage they want, maybe autoimmune problems aren’t “caused” by implants but they sure seem to be a catalyst.

Kenda

Kenda

I am so glad you

decided not to and that you are compassionate enough to want to

prevent other women from making that mistake even when you could

just forget all about it now that you have made your decision. Keep

up the good work!
