Hello and welcome to our group!

We are a lively bunch, and often we spend time teasing each other and, in

general, being brats. LOL BUT -- we welcome questions and will answer them or

direct you back to the doctor. I hope everything goes well for you on January

12. It's exciting for you to be one of the *lap* patients!

Hugs and blessings, Ann

Hi! My name is Marissa and I am new to the group too. I graduated from UofA

back in

2002... Your doing great if you already have set a goal. I have the book...and

i'am playing

with my computer....but, don't have the guts to set a goal yet. I think it has

to be a small

goal, since I am so bad at keeping it. Anyway, you should plan a mini-vacation

for the last

weekend of August to get you more motivated to stick with it. Stay patient and

take it day by

day. Good Luck.

Hi!

I would say that 'crossing the Abyss', is certainly new territory

for people who feel squeemish about making promises to

themselves...SO dive in, write out your visions, expectations, goals

and dreams. Use a binder for tracking, do your before pics- and be

prepared to open your mind.

Then! listen for good recipes, because the food on this program is

the 'glue'. Ive LOVE eating beautiful guilt free meals. I dieted

so much for quick results that my habit of associating guilt with

pleasure was turning me into one of those cry-baby eaters! It took

time, patience and a dramatic goal, in order to find the effort to

change the way I view food.

" is it possible to eat like this and still loose weight? I am

> > making the turkey burgers from the cook book night and I feel so

> > guilty! "

If you like pancakes here's a recipe from one of the Grand Master

Champions:

Pumpkin Protein Pancakes

(These are good cold too – as a quick snack, right out of the

fridge!) 5 oz (canned) pumpkin, 4 egg whites, 1 scoop vanilla

protein powder, cinnamon, Splenda Protein Oatmeal: (this is really

good as a cold snack later -or reheated!) Irish/Steel-Cut Oatmeal w/

vanilla protein powder & either berries, bananas, or raisins &

cinnamon (if you can't get steel-cut oats, use regular slow-cook

oats!)

we're rootin' for you!

You know, small goals are not a bad thing....pile one right after the

other and you get the big goal done. Many of us find it

daunting....change our eating AND start working out, and not only an

endless aerobics class but with WEIGHTS!!! (You know, when I was in

high school they did not let anyone but the football team use the

weight room...except for one day when they took the gym classes in

there to let them see what there was. I did a leg press of 300#...wish

I had starting lifting weights then, imagine what an AMAZON I would

be...lol..but I digress). If that is all too much for you then set

small goals. " This week I'll read the book and do my shopping " or

" This week I'll hit the gym " ...before long you are doing it all and

hitting those big goals.

Dr. son-Lippitt, Marietta,

and Dr. Guest, McDonough. Also, Dr. Hicks, who comes to

Alpharetta on a regular schedule. Go to the AutismBioMedGA

group and join. There is a list of doctors and others in their files.

Hello,

I’m looking for a doctor to chelate my 11

year old son and am having a problem finding an MD in the Atlanta area.

Does anyone know of a doctor that will do this? I’ve already

checked the DAN website and was unsuccessful there. Apparently, they

don’t update the list to take people off once they’ve stopped chelating

patients.

Any help is appreciated.

No question is stupid! It's a long journey and it took us two years to finally

feel that we understood all of the therapies and biomedical interventions

available. Don't be afraid to ask, please.

Chelation is the removal of metals from your child's body by use of supplements

(there are several, and quite a debate about which is the best). We all take in

metals through our foods and other environmental input, but if our bodies work

right, we naturally chelate. Substances in our bodies attach to the metals and

then they are flushed through our urine, feces, hair, etc. Many autistic people

do not naturally chelate, and so the metals build up in their bodies and cause

damage. Thus, the whole controversy about vaccines and mercury - if autistic

people don't naturally get rid of mercury, and they are pumped full of toxic

doses of it over the first two years of their lives, they are damaged.

A great book about all of the biomedical interventions is " Children With

Starving Brains " by Dr. McAndless. You might have to read it two or

three times to grasp all of it, but it covers all of the dietary and biomedical

treatments currently being used in the field.

I read somewhere (can't recall now...seems like I've been

doing nothing but reading since May) that children can die

from chelation...that's one of the reasons I was wondering

because if you guys were doing it...it couldn't be that

bad.

In the few instances where children have been injured, they were doing chelation

by IV, and the incorrect amount was given to them (in one case, for example, an

adult dose was given to a 6 year old). So, you have to be sure that the doctor

knows what they are doing. My husband has read so much about it as well, and we

are not doing IV chelation, but by oral supplement, that he knows the various

recommended doses himself, and can question a doctor who might prescribe an

incorrect amount. So, chelation, if done properly, is not deadly.

Dear , Thank you so much for the explanation. I, too, wanted to know exactly what chelation meant. I do have another question. My son is 12 and recently diagnosed with Aspergers. He's pretty high functioning and is in regular school and reg classes. However, he is very interested in science and especially chemistry. He lives, eats and breaths science and I'm getting a bit concerned because the science kit that he wants has more than a few metals. They are mostly elementary experiments for teenagers, but I'm beginning to think that having him around these things are not a good idea. Any suggestions? Cowen <lscowen@...> wrote: :No question is stupid! It's a long journey and it took us two years to finally feel that we understood all of the therapies and biomedical interventions available. Don't be afraid to ask, please.Chelation is the removal of metals from your child's body by use of supplements (there are several, and quite a debate about which is the best). We all take in metals through our foods and other environmental input, but if our bodies work right, we naturally chelate. Substances in our bodies attach to the metals and then they are flushed through our urine, feces, hair, etc. Many autistic people do not naturally chelate, and so the metals build up in their bodies and cause damage. Thus, the whole controversy about vaccines and mercury - if autistic people don't

naturally get rid of mercury, and they are pumped full of toxic doses of it over the first two years of their lives, they are damaged.A great book about all of the biomedical interventions is "Children With Starving Brains" by Dr. McAndless. You might have to read it two or three times to grasp all of it, but it covers all of the dietary and biomedical treatments currently being used in the field. ,

Could you please let me know what you and

your husband have been reading regarding chelation. I would like to know as

much as possible when we get to the doctor.

In the few instances where children have been injured, they were doing

chelation by IV, and the incorrect amount was given to them (in one case, for

example, an adult dose was given to a 6 year old). So, you have to be sure that

the doctor knows what they are doing. My husband has read so much about it as

well, and we are not doing IV chelation, but by oral supplement, that he knows

the various recommended doses himself, and can question a doctor who might

prescribe an incorrect amount. So, chelation, if done properly, is not deadly.

Jeanne:

"Children With Starving Brains" by McAndless is a good

resource. Dr. McAndless discusses all of the biomedical

interventions in layman's terms. I had to read it twice, even so,

but it has been a good resource throughout the whole process.

Hi! I am the mother of three boys with selective immune deficiency.

Austin is five and has been off IVIG for a little over a year but now

they are seeing some problems. Kaleb is four and he has been on

therapy for three years with no sign of ever going off and Kamden who

is almost one and not far from being put on IVIG therapy. It would be

nice to talk to other parents who have an idea what it is like to

dealt with these issues.

thanks,

angela
