Godspeed, Kathy. Travel safely, arrive rested and have an uneventful surgery

and easy recovery (and great losses afterward). I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hugs and blessings,

Kathy...have a safe trip out here from Indiana! I'll be at the

support meeting... evil grin...that day you will be on clear liquids

and will need to drink to " poop juice " ....is going to drag you

to all our eating adventures that day? I hope you do go, not so we

can be evil and eat in front of you...but because its a great time

to get to know each other.

Wishing you the speediest, uneventful post-op recovery.

Hugs

Barb,

You have made the best choice for Evan. Max was in a brace for 3

months and his curve still doubled. I really wish I would've gone

with the casting sooner instead of the brace. I had many

apprehensions with casting, but is what has saved Max from having

growing rod surgery at the age of 13 months. He may still need it,

but if we can buy time until he is older that is beneficial to Max

in the long run.

Max is in his 4th cast with his spine being the straightest ever.

And he's 1.25 inches taller in cast!

You have many parents who will support you in this journey with

Evan. You will learn so much from him and about him.

Please keep us posted. We'll be thinking of you and Evan on the 25th!

Barb,

What great news. I think you will be very happy with Dr. ! Good luck on

the 25th and be sure to post when you get back and let us know how it goes.

I just wanted to say " Thank You " to everyone who has posted messages to

this site. It has really helped to educate me. My son Evan (who is

now 11 months) was diagnosed with infantile scoliosis at 4 months and

currently has a 32 degree curve. I did not find the CAST site until he

was 9 months old and he was being observed every 4 months by his local

Ortho.

After reading all the posts and information, I decided to send his X-

Rays to Erie and he has been approved for Casting! Our appointment

with Dr. is on March 25th. We are going to his local Ortho

this Friday just to see what he has to say about casting in general.

We will take his comments to Erie and hopefully move forward with what

is best for Evan. I am excited and nervous at the same time:)

Thanks again for all your help

Dear Barb, congratulations! This group continually educates me with things I

never knew before about casting!

What a fabulous decision you are making for your son. He is at a great age to

have his curve resolved! (I'm assuming he has progressive infantile scoliosis)

Please let us know of his progress!

Take care,

Great Imogene! Do let us know how it turns out. If this works, have

to come up with an idea for hygiene!

My parents use an ointment for arthritis that I have tried (and got

relief) when joints are in pain---it is called " Unkers " . It is not

sold in retail stores, but they get from a rep. in TN. You might be

able to find it online. I have used Biofreeze and it is helpful as well.

My mom has just told me about a rub called Biofreeze which helps with

pain. She uses it and it seems to work for her. Has anyone here ever

heard of it or used it and if so what were the results?

I use a product called OthoGel. I get it from my Chiropractor. It is made by the

same company that makes BioFreeze. I have found that Orthogel works even better

than BioFreeze.

Breathing is good. :o)

I've found, on our journey through trying to figure out this OCD, that

knowledge is power. If you know what you are dealing with, and how to

battle it, you feel you have some control over it instead of it just

having control over you and your loved one.

Hi Mandy,

I'm so sorry you are not in good shape right now, take out your sword and start

swinging, your bound to at least nick the dragon! About your meds and insurance,I

know I've read here before that sometimes if you contact the drug company that

makes what you take, you can contact them, explain the circumstances and they will

sometimes give you either samples or the whole prescription.Others know more

about this than I do, but I know someday I will need the info,so I'd like to

know also.I know my Rheumy gives samples, maybe yours will too.It can't hurt to

ask.I wish you well and good luck with your meds.I hope you will not get a full

fledged flare, try not to stress too much,we know what that does to us.Good Luck,

That is all I do with my insurance they fight me with everthing, my mom helps me

write the letters but we have written more letters then I can even count. But

yes we are fighting them, but they also like to take thier sweet time replying

back too.

Re: Thank you

Mandy,

Have you tried fighting your insurance on their decisino not to cover

Humira? You have a right to appeal that and have your doctor's supply

reasons why it should be covered and show that you were doing better.

Fight to the death i say. Because they will try to screw us all.
