The waiting period is 1 yr, which will be up at the end of October. My new dr. wants to send me to a gastroenterologist then. I just know that I am a single mom, can't hardly pay all of my bills as it is, and really don't have the $$ to go to the dr. (It's a shame that I have insurance and can't afford to use it)!! My boss was going to start tx last year, but had to put it on hold, because her copay on the RX would be about $800 per month. After I found that out, I just put the whole tx thing in the back of my head. I realize that the pharmacuetical companies would help out, but I just don't have the $$ to pay for the initial costs up front (biopsy, etc). I don't drink and haven't since about 6 months before I was diagnosed. I never was a big drinker anyway. I just had alot of symptoms and a real good friend encouraged me to go in for testing. Guest guest Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 I do have to worry about doctor appointments. My doctor charges $25 any time I miss an appointment. The first one was free, every one after that cost me, guess that's why I haven't missed one with her. When it costs me money, I'll remember. The levels are so very, very low compared to other people I know. My dr. at the time said that there is no big hurry on tx. Now, I changed jobs, and insurance companies. She was right!! That's been 3 1/2 or so years ago. I was taking Milk Thistle diligently, but have gotten out of the habit. It's been a few months now, and I can tell the difference. If I could just learn to make some better food choices (fried foods and Texas just go great together--ya know) and get rid of some of the stress, I know I would not be so tired all of the time. Also, I think I'm afraid that I'll be so sick on the tx that I won't be able to work--and then how do I pay the bills and keep up with the grandbaby and teenagers? So, thanks for letting me ramble on and on. I feel better already. If anyone knows of any other solutions, let me know. Kim suzie <suzieandsandy@...> wrote: I think it has more to do with how long you've had it. Both of my tries at tx were before I turned 50 but I figure I've had hep since 1969 or 70. I've had friends who've only had it a few years & they cleared on the same tx at the same time who were the same age as me. The only difference was the length of infection. I would advise treating a s a p. If I'd known then.....yeah & if my grandma had wheels she'd be a tea wagon. I was wondering what was your reasons for not doing tx besides the $, Did you know that you have a higher percentage of beatin hep & lower chances of progression..when your under 50 yrs old....Correct me folks if Im wrong about this but I remember something on these lines.. Have you had a biopsy yet, do you know what geno type, stage and grade you are? The pharmacuticals give the meds for free if you qualify..One of the most important rules is that you can not be drinking ..I stopped as soon as I came down sick in the hospital and never went back to it..Thank God for small miracles!..A Big miracle really...I drank all my life... Congratulations on your family and becoming a granny for the first time in November,my Bday month!...its fun...I have one granddaughter"Teagan", Deb and Mel got to meet her..Wonderful to have you here...Hugs, Pat Re: Welcome new member -- Kim Still Hi and thanks!! Guest guest Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 Suzie, Hi, my name is , and I have been a member of this group since about 7 months after Deb and Liz got kicked off. I can tell you that you are definetly in a great place. I would have never made it through TX without all their help. I hope you don't mind me putting my two cents in. As far as the treatment goes - I have geno 1b, which is the worst to have as you have to undergo a year of treatment. I was in Arizona when I found out that I had it, and I didn't have insurance and had just moved there, and I was so blessed as I imediately recieved help from the state, and I didn't even have any small children at home. They paid for every penny of my TX. And I think since you have children it would be so much easier for you to get help financially. I am a true believer in the tX - I had to move out of Arizona after only 4 months of tx and I couldn't get the state I was in to pick-up and help pay at the time, So I had to quit th e tx, I felt like I had just been beaten and thrown to the wolves. I had just unertaken chemo for 4 months, and I was not a lucky one, I had almost every side affect possible and now I had to quit, but to make a long story short - I cleared the virus and still remiain clear even a year after stopping. I do realize this is un heard of especially with my geno type and I am very blessed. However - I want to say that if I was to fall out of remission and have the choice to do the TX again - I would without a doubt. NO - there is nothing pretty about treatment, and I will never sugar coat it for anyone, in fact I couldn't work while on it. But I have my life back and I have QUALITY of life back - and it was so worth it... I had only had my Hep-c for about a year and half, no more than two years and my viral was pretty low - but the sooner the treat the less damage to the liver and the better the odds of clearing it.... There are resources out there to help you - it is something to think about - it could save if not prolong your life and definetly a much better quality of life. I have energy again, I am not tired all the time, my hair grew back, I am don't feel sad all the time, I water and snow ski again. I hunt, camp, play golf and still have energy to spare. And before I could barely get out of bed..... Think about it and pray about it - there are allot of knowledgeable people here that can help you with resources and also you would be elegable for state help Good luck to you and may God bless and keep you and yours Marie Pat McBride <pmcbride1@...> wrote: SuzieQ, I bought my big desk calendars for only 2.00...Im up a little too late tonight..Off to bed..Love ya, Pattycakes Re: Welcome new member -- Kim Still Hi and thanks!!
