Guest guest
- I had Alyssa (DS) when I was 35---bit my sister had her child (Jimmy with DS) when she was only 27 years old! I have heard it summarized that the reason you don't see as many older mothers having children with DS is because they are more likely to go for amnio (because of their age)--and some may decide to terminate their pregnancies. Thus--it may seem that there are more DS babies born to younger moms than to older ones. I was at the " at risk " age when I had my twins--and knew with our family history that my risk may have doubled--but I decided to forgoe any testing since I would not have terminated the pregnancy anyway. Guest guest
Gail, I was also told a higher risk of having a ds child with twins, I was also told if you have twins once that it was a 90% chance i would have them again. Well I have the twins again, I have (ds) so I myself would probaly believe it. Guest guest
Fran, I received your message about Joe Diffey. I will try to find out a little more. He is a Country & Western singer. One of his hits is Deere Green, if that helps. I will let you know what I find out about a song about his DS child. Guest guest
I also think it seems more younger moms have children with Ds cause more people in their 20's and 30's are having children than people in their 40's. I have said this before but I would think the only reason having twins would increase the chance of Ds is because you are having two babies instead of one...twice the chance. I have almost decided not to have any tests concerning Ds with this pregnancy....almost. I wouldn't have an abortion. I do worry about a whole host of other problems now though. Once you are introduced to the world of disabilties, you are never naive again. I see other kids at PT and OT who are far worse off than Maggie. I know that is awful to say...I would hate it if someone said Maggie was worse off...but you all know what I mean. Guest guest
Gail and Fran, I worded that wrong in a previous post. I didn't mean that already having twins increased my risk of a child with Ds. I meant that while I was pregnant with twins the doctor said that a twin pregnancy increases your risk. I'm sorry about the confusion. The geneticist told me this when I was getting a Level 2 ultrasound due to the duouble bubble sign which appeared on a routine ultrasound. Gail, you were pretty much told the same thing too? The geneticist is the only doctor who has ever told me that. mom to Landon (Ds) and Ashton 22 months --- GVanHouten <rjvh@...> wrote: > gcigna@... wrote: > > > > -I was never told that having twins > increased my risk for a DS child > > either. > > Fran > > > I was told that while I was pregnant with my twins, > when I refused the > AFP blood screening and the amnio. > Gail.......Bobby 6, Jillian 3 1/2, and > Tara{ds}1 > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > Enjoy the award-winning journalism of The New York > Times with > > convenient home delivery.
