I am a new member of this group and am the Coordinator/RD for a fledging program at a community hospital in Waukegan, Illinois, mid-way between Chicago and Milwaukee on Lake Michigan. I keep my support group open, so any patient needing a meeting can come. Our next group is Wednesday, August 17th, 7 PM. It's always on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Patients can call ahead at 847/360-2439 for directions or other information.

I think a network of open groups in the country would be a good service for our clients. When on vacation, etc, meetings can help if you are struggling. Previously I worked with eating disorder patients and ongoing involvement with self-help groups was big.

I appreciate all the info shared, it's been very helpful.

So...what part of the country are you from? There are no SSRI support

groups in Austin that I know of. Around here you just don't talk about SSRI

drugs at all because there are so many people on them. Literally every

where I go people are dinged out on these drugs, and they get pretty touchy

if you try to tell them how bad they are. (I'm talking, church, work, the

Y...these drugs are very popular in Austin)

Thanks for the message...

Check out www.wildestcolts.com you can contact Dr. Breeding from there. He

might know of a group or enough people to start a group yourself. Dr.

legislators about the dangers of bio-psychiatry and has been very

instrumental in putting rights back in the people's hands. Dr. Breeding

I want to start a local psychiatric survivor support group. I don't

have a clue how to begin. I just know there's a need for one-on-one

support, where we can get together in person and discuss information,

experiences, strength, and hope. I am an SSRI survivor. I was on

drugs for 10 years. I am now off for two. Does anyone out there have

any information for me? Maybe a group I can use as a model? I am in

Austin, Texas.

Hello

One I attend has 3. One session is like a Q/A session where doctors give a detailed overview of the different procedures the facility offers. The second is only for post-op. The third is pre/post op. The post-op people sit on a panel-gives information themselves which gives pre-op patients an opportunity to ask questions. Then the floor is given to pre-op introductions, q/a.

Another meeting I attend asks for people who are less than 1 year post-op to come for the 1st hour and the rest of them pre/post op mesh.

We currently run one support group for everyone. However, this summer

I'm planning to add a " post-op " only group after MANY requests from our

post-op patients. My surgeon has been performing rny's for just over

two years and our patient number is now large enough, I think, to

support a " post-op " only group.

We have one. Topics include things specific to the band such as, when you need a fill, how to know if you have a good fill or a leak or erosion, how NOT to eat around the band, how to best make the band work for you, good nutrition with the band; and things that are not: breaking plateaus, emotional issues, plastic surgery, lymphatic message, goof proofing the environment, exercise, etc. Some times we have veterans who have been successful, or "ask the doc" or ask the dietitian", or trainer, etc. Also, cooking demos and product tastings are popular or bringing in menus from area restaurants and discussing the better choices available.

Don't have any written materials as it's mosting different speakers.

At my hospital we have one support group. We have a required 1 time

seminar that gives all of the details about the surgery. The support

group meets twice a month. Patients are required to attend one or two

(I can't remember exactly) support group meeting before they have

surgery. Our " old timers " come because they like to share with the

new patients their triumphs and struggles. I haven't heard anyone

complain about mixing the 2 groups. Actually, I have a hard time

getting people to leave on the nights that I go!

Ah, Sandy, If the same doctor took your implants out that put them in, that may be part of the problem. Do you know if the scar tissue was removed? If it was not, you may have to consider another surgery to remove all residual scar tissue. If you are not feeling better since explant 3 years ago, but are actually much worse, then this may be an explanation as to why. We often counsel women NOT to use the same surgeon for explant as implant, because generally, they do not understand the illnesses we face, and the importance of removing the scar tissue. They tend to take the easy way out of explant surgery, and that is to just pop out the implant, leaveing all that residual debris in there. Sandy, is there any way you can find your operative report to see what he/she did upon explant? You

need to know for sure whether or not that scar tissue is out. PattySandy Verticelli <dusty.com@...> wrote: Thank you all for responding I had Implants at 46 years old I was explanted two years later I am now 51 years old, The plastic surgeon

My implants have already been removed

My plastic surgeon that put the implants in, also explanted me.

I am going to pick up my records on my implants today before they are destroyed

I want to find out what was removed and what kind of condition they were in and exactly when they were removed

Will they be honest with my records, I do not know but hope they would be.

I am positive I will not understand doctor language if the handwriting is anything like in prescription form

The plastic surgeon upon my request implanted and explanted underneath of my armpits

Little did I know how this outcome was really going to play out

I don't want to be cut up and scarred up anymore :(

---Sandy, I love your style of writing. Very easy to read! I will

be praying for your healing...we sure go through alot, even after

surgery. My explantation is booked for July 26. I'm just hoping I

don't get a cold or pneumonia AGAIN before that date. I have 10

days worth of antibiotics I can take before surgery, just to be

sure. I'll probably do that.

Take good care of yourself...candlelight baths, lots of hugs &

comfort from friends,

Love,

Sunny :)

Sandy, It's unlikely your doctor could properly remove your implants like this . . . Most likely he made an incision, popped your implants out and sewed you up . . . Not a good thing for anyone who is symptomatic!. You may need further surgery to get well. . . . If I remember right, even the manufacturer'r (or is it the FDA?) recommends a total capsulectomy for symptomatic women.
