Sinead, that is great that he doing better this year with school. We

homeschool and haven't started yet. I'm going to give him a week of

Driver's Ed before we throw more school work into his life, just to

try to ease in. My son and my nephew (also OCD) both do better if

they can stay busy too. The problem is, it is hard to keep them busy

enough. I think in a way, it is an avoidance tactic, but I feel they

deserve a break from OCD occasionally since they have to fight it so

much the rest of the time. So however they can avoid, occasionally,

and try to live a normal life should be allowed.

Sometimes when people are going on and on about stuff that I know is

freaking Josh out, I just want to go over and duct tape their mouths

shut. Husband included. lol

Sinead,

what a fabulous report on your son! This is just what I need to hear. It's

amazing how your ds has taken so much initiative socially and is so clear about

his OCD and how it affects him. I'm going to share with Noah how well this boy

is one year after leaving . I'm sure it will give him lots of hope, too.

Great job, Mom!

That is so distressing, but it is good news that he seems to be handling college

well so far. Thanks for all the updates. I am behind in my emails, so I haven't

gotten to them all yet.

One year after leaving my son 'O' (16) is doing really well. The summer

was a wonderful break from stress for him. Last year he struggled through school

because of social anxiety in addition to his OCD. Over the summer his social

anxiety seemed to ease and he really enjoyed his free time. We were dreading the

new school year but he has really surprised us so far ! He has been getting up

on time, showering (this is a big one for him!) and getting to school early. He

is very enthusiastic about his first class (TV production) so that has helped.

He has also been reconnecting with kids he knows from previous classes and

generally throwing himself into school life. At the weekends he has been

no room for the OCD and that

BJ, thanks for asking about my dad. The only thing wrong with him is

old age and his body simply giving out. He still has a pretty good

memory and knows who everyone is.

I talked to Bre about why she asks so many questions when she drives.

She told me she doesn't want to make a mistake. She wants to drive

perfect. Man wouldn't it be great if everyone had that attitude? I

see people run red lights all the time!

So we talked about if maybe it was an obsession to be perfect and

some of the anxiety she has when driving is from ocd. It is hard

though because of course I want her to drive safe and not wreck. LOL.

But the extra pressure she puts on herself is not good. She has a bad

habit of swinging out to the left when she makes a right turn,

because she is afraid she will hit the curb. I had her practice right

turns.

I have to admit it was scary when she hit the accelerator instead of

the brake and almost hit the car in front of us! I don't know if

driving is harder for her or me!!

All these things in life we have to deal with. :) We all should get

super mom of the year awards!!

BJ,

I know exactly what you mean about the duct tape! I was squirming, wishing that

ds friend would shut up about the spiders already! It is amazing to me how many

people enjoy talking about scary, gory things - wild animals, horrifying

stories of abduction and murder, weird and poisonous insects. When you are

sensitive to the OCD triggers that set your child off it is hard not to

interrupt and try to change the topic. But we have probably shielded ds too much

over the years, knowing that certain topics will freak him out. It is hard to

know how to handle it.

I agree that staying busy does really help with the OCD and it may be an

avoidance strategy. But when their OCD is really bad, nothing can distract them

- so I am thankful that ds can distract himself at this stage. We haven't

started driver's ed yet. Ds seems to have reluctance, so we are not pushing it

just now. School is enoug to deal with right now.

Thanks, . We do feel that he has been making steady progress over the last

year, although there have been some set backs along the way. I hope you will

find the same with Noah. Slow but steady!

, Nice to hear from you. Yea!!!!!!!!!!! on being undetectable. I am so proud of you, for doing the right thing for yourself and family. It was a hard decision I am sure but taking care of yourself is Number 1. Cool that you mentioned our group. Funny thing, I was talking to a doctor in OKC. He was attending to a friend of mine. And I was there for support to her. We talked about Hep C and after a while he said "Oh I have a online group for you to look at". I said okay, he gave me the address for this group. I laughed and said "I am the owner of that group". He said he was pleased to meet me, because he had heard such good things about our group. I told him, we try to do our best to give only the most updated and best advice and support that we can. He said his patients had recommended that new patients check out our group. Now that is Kudo's to our

little group. sure was nice hearing from you. Love Janetraggzcutie@... wrote: Hi all, Just wanted to update you on my test results. Lymphoma: no new activity since May. Yea! My family felt that it was more important to have me healthy and well. I am still going to school for my degree. I have to finish getting my education so we can eventually move out from this neighborhood. My son is excited to change schools. I was more worried about it than he was. He's so friendly and outgoing... he isn't worried about the change at all! Anyway, I just wanted to update and tell you how much I have appreciated this group. I spoke about this group and how helpful it was for group therapy in my psychology class. It helps to be able to talk about Hep C in a safe environment.

Hi everyone,

??? It has been awhile since I posted so let me start by saying Hi and hope

that everyone is doing well. To all the new members.. welcome to the group. This

group has alot of people who have been where you are and can help you understand

so much.?

? As everyone knows, I have a tumor in my brain that is causing chaos. I had a

spinal tap and then required a blood patch to seal the leaking spinal fluid. The

test showed I had? very high intercranial pressure and have excess fluid on the

brain ( plus? around the tumor). I have been going through one test after

another. I am in alot of pain with headaches and a flare. THe doctors are

concerned with my vision loss and my optical nerves are not working right. I

just saw a neurosurgeon in miami this week. Of course he wants more tests run (

great ). HE is leaning towards draining my spinal fluid then doing radiation to

see if it helps. He hopes to start off with least invasive and work our way up.

He is very against a shunt right now because of my history of mycoplasma

infection. So I have been basically told to rest, take my meds and wait and see.

This sucks ... no quick fix to help. I am still trying to do my classes through

this but it has been rough. I am taking 4 classes. I know i am out of my mind.

The only class I am worried about is my master molecular chemistry class. It is

so hard and I am beyond stressed with it. But getting through it.?

having a great weekend.

Danni,

I am sorry to hear you are dealing with so much. Am I also correct in

understanding you are a grad student taking 12 hours? I am also a grad student,

and to hear you are able to cope with so much at once is amazing. I hope things

me..42

Sherry,

So sorry to hear about your accident...I might suggest to go to the e.r. if it

is swollen more and in more pain...maybe you fractured something?

Diane..42

Hello all,

Last week I wrote in wondering if I might be having side effects from Remicade.

I now know that I had a bug/cold. I am very glad that is all it was. On another

note my knee is still in alot of pain and I have another 2 weeks before seeing

the ortho surgeon. This past Wed I was leaving my house in the morning (after a

night of snowfall). The wheelchair ramp in front of my house was covered with

snow. I was unable to shovel it due to pain in my wrist. The snow was high and

packed so I thought I could make it down. Boy was I wrong! My feet came out from

under me and down I went with my bad leg folding up under me. Can you say OUCH!

That caused pain in my back, shoulders, arms and you guessed it, my leg. My leg

was already swollen from being filled with fluid. Now it is even bigger. Harder

to walk on also. What a week huh? I've tried ice and heat and can't seem to

bring down the swelling. I am in so much pain and my meds don't even touch it.

Oh well, such is my life.

Take care

Sherry,

So sorry to hear about your accident...I might suggest to go to the e.r. if it

is swollen more and in more pain...maybe you fractured something?

Take care

kirk,

Have you ever heard of a PFO it's a small hole in between the right and left

ventricles of the heart that a lot of people are born with but as we get

older, in some people, these holes get bigger and one of the major signs

that there is a problem with this hole is headaches that nothing will touch.

There is a test that cardiologist do called a TEE that can see if you have

this or not. It might be worth looking into. It could be that you have

both stills and this other problem. We have a friend that has this and he

can't get rid of his migraines without medical maj. He may have a surgery to

close this hole up. There is a headache clinic in Michigan that works with a

cardiologist that specializes in this. It's in Ann Arbor. It might be

really worth looking into.

Anyway - just something to think about.

Good luck - hang in there
