Hi ,

Going back to work depends on you and your body. If you have no

complications and heal fast, three weeks would probably be fine. I

know a teacher who went back to work after 2, But I am a bank teller

and have to lift 50 lbs and I was off 8 weeks. There was no way I

could stand all day, walk all around, and go up 3 flights of stairs

to the bathroom. That in itself is an issue. It may not be for you,

as we all are different. But the bathroom issue could keep you home

too, depending on your work place.

What you can eat also depends on your body afterwards. The notebook

you have lists the recommended foods. I ate egg flower soup from the

chinese restaurant across from the Shilo. I ate a lot of yogurt,

tuna on crackers, scrambled eggs, marie calendars potato cheese

soup. And best of all Taco bells pintos and cheese. Now remember

you will only be able to eat small amounts. the soup lasted 3 days

and I shared it. The pintos and cheese = two sittings.

The main thing is not to stock up on anything, as your tastes will

change from day to day and it will be hard to eat if there isnt

something you are hungry for.

And sip, sip, sip, your water. and walk, walk, walk.

OK , you asked....

It took me the full 8 weeks to recover. I felt like I had been hit by

sleeping sickness, and napped very frequently. Because of the inability to

sleep on my stomach or side, I was stuck laying on my back, which, at 300+

pounds, caused me a lot of snoring and was very uncomfortable for my

scoliosis.

There was a " magic " place though at 8 weeks, all the sudden I woke up one

morning and felt.... human. Not wiped out and beaten, tired and complaining

I felt " normal " .

Now, being a Lap Procedure, you could be totally different... but that was

my experience being " open "

me! I'm out 12 months and only down 100 pounds. Dang that water and what

Just Remember...Even if your Lap surgery, Your insides have still gone

Sharon did a great job answering your question about food and going

back to work...The only food that popped into my head that she

didn't have on there That I ate Daily...string cheese...lol...I

would play with my food and see how thin I could string it...but I

could eat the whole stick of cheese that way.

I went back to work at 8 weeks...At the time I was a Special Ed.

School bus driver and had an 80 pound lifting requirement...many of

my students were lifted in and out of seats...plus no restroom on

the bus...so I took as much time as I could....however...at 3 weeks

post op I was putting in 8 hour days at my home office for our

business. I was able to do this because I didn't need energy to get

dressed or comb my hair(lol, just went to work in pj's) and I could

take breaks often, get up and walk around....take a short nap if

needed......

Some of us breeze through the procedure and some struggle....lets

Yep, I forgot about string cheese. I ate it too, so much so, that I

Hi ,

I don't work outside the home but I know I couldn't have worked for 12 weeks

after the (open) surgery, of course I wasn't in the best of shape going into

the surgery. LOL It wasn't pain that would have kept me back...exhaustion

would have done me in and my *magic* turning the energy corner was 12 weeks (I

did have a 3 month long incisional infection, so it could have added to my

exhaustion).

Well saw the rhumy this morning nothin real conclusive,but he doesn't believe im in flare and neither do I lol.What did concern him is for sum reason the Sed rate went from 9 to 75 within 3 days I had my regular test the Sat then the 1 at the ER(he suspects sumthin else other than Stills caused it to jump).So now I reduce the pred again lol wonder if I really needed to increase it in the first place but it did help or did it really hmm lol.Take care. d.Canada

Thank you and Tricia. I am not sure what the usual dose is for the Humira. I think it depends on the Dr and how it is going. If it does work, then I can get off the MTX injections, so that will be fun hehehe. and we will taper off the prednisone. I have been on both of those over a year now, hard to believe it has been that long. What are we going to do with you ? lol...... trying to take the easy way huh lol.. I sure hope your neck feels better soon. Tricia please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish your family the best. You try and take it easy though so the dragon doesn't leave me to go to you. Love you guys.

First I want to say hi to everyone and welcome all the new people. I haven't been posting much as I have been kind of out of it. I went and seen the Dr in Denver today and we did more tests. Just getting over an Upper Respiratory Infection. We are going to start the Humira, even though the drug company has declined to do the study. I went to the pharmacy today and they are going to order it and should be ready tomorrow and my insurance is going to cover it. So that is a load off my shoulders. We are going to do it once every other week and see how it goes. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it works and I will be able to do stuff again, like go for a walk and work in the yard. The dragon has taken its toll on me and starting to effect my knees more and my ankles and arms. I feel very positive about this step. You all have been in my thoughts, even though I haven't been around. Love to you all

Marta...sorry to hear the dinner offer is off I'd be a really cheap

date...lol. I am trying to stay positive at times it seems like

things will never end but I put my faith in God and then go about my

life. This surgery I had monday had given me more pain than my T.T.

he said he had to free up alot of scar tissue to even get to my

intestines..Feels like I've just done 1000 sit ups. The nasty hole

from my feeding tube in my stomach is trying to heal but it may take

awhile he has me putting colostomy bags over it to catch the stomache

acid as we wait for healing. I guess the holes pretty big because

when I was admitted saturday the nurse was able to tell me what I had

eaten for lunch(lasaunua) I am tired I am bored but this too will

pass and hopefully I'll enjoy good health from here on out...
