Kim, I forgot tp mention that this was the first ped we argued with about not

vaccinating

our kids. He was the father of a child with ADHD and an advocate for Ritalin.

Apparently,

he thought that he could treat all kids with uatism with the same drugs. When he

wrote us

a script for Ritalin and Risperdol, I threw them in the garbage in front of him.

He was so

pompous he proceded to write us another one to " think about it, but you'll have

to lock up

the fridge for your youngest son. Haldol's good too, but they may lactate " .!!?

Everyone repeat after me, " pediatricians are idiots...pediatricians

are idiots... "

I hardly EVER see a pediatrician any more, just enough to be able to

see them if I really, truly think they need antibiotics 'cause I know

that's all they'll do anyway. I'm a family doctor gal these days.

He doesn't have autism. I'm sure he just has an immature central nervous system and he'll grow out of it.

Love that one

I was reading all of these and I just remembered what happened to us.

I can't believe I almost forgot about it!

When my son was 2 weeks old he started getting a rash on his face. My

MIL said that it was probably prickly heat rash since it was August. I

was inclined to believe her until it started spreading down his chest

and down his back. So I went to the ped and she said that it was baby

acne and it would clear up in 4-6 MONTHS! I paid $90.00 for

those " Pearls of Wisdom " .

His skin was looking so bad and it started spreading down his arms. So

I wrote Hohn a German " Natural Cures " doctor online and stated

what was happening. He told me to quit consuming all dairy. I was

breastfeeding. What do you know? His skin cleared right up! Oh yeah,

his advice was free!

Needless to say I don't take my son to those kinds of doctors anymore.

Here's ours:

" All he needs is consistent discipline and to be sleep trained

(Ferberized). He's only acting like this because you let him get away

with too much. "

We tried the Ferber (sp?) method too. When we started crying in the

living room after several hours of listening to our son scream

hysterically, we decided Ferber was the quack. Finally took our son

into our bed and everybody finally slept.

I had to think a while to remember this, because our ped is very nice

and seems to respect the choices we've made. Some years ago we

brought our son in because he was covered with bumps. Turns out he

had the sackie virus and the ped (not our regular one) who saw him

said that this was a normal response because he was " an allergic type

person " which at the time seemed like a very reasonable thing to say.

However during the exam went into a frenzy of ticcing. Jumping,

flapping, couldn't really control himself. The doctor observed this

and then said to him " why are you doing that chicken dance? " A-hole I

thought to myself, but didn't say a word to the doc. He left the

practice a year or two later, happy to say.
