Guest guest
Kerri, I had heard with medical bills, if you just send them a small amount every month as long as it's consistent, then they can't garnish your wages.. Of course that doesn't help with meds, as those have to be paid upfront. You might want to check the laws in your state, as it seems the bills are going to be on-going for a time and the last thing you need is that additional stress.. I sure don't blame you for being angry, especially with 2 small children at home.. Guest guest
Kerri- I'm assuming (lousy choice of word! ;-)) that your drug coverage is through Aetna. Do you have access to the Aenta mail order pharmacy? We have Aetna PPO/Open Choice as well through my husband's employer and we live in NY. I just did a 'cost of care' search via the Aenta website ... a 3 month supply of neupogen would cost us $203.67 through the Aenta mail order pharmacy. The ribavarin is no cost to us and the pegasys is $233. I always use the mail order pharmacy since the 30 day supply via retail is the same cost as the 3 month via Aetna. I think that the drug costs must vary state-to-state. I shudder to think of where we'd be if we didn't have this coverage. -Laurie Re: Re: insurance woes I have medical insurance... but it's still EXPENSIVE!!!!! Guest guest
Hey Laurie. Yeah, I have to use the Aetna Specialty Pharmacy. My Ribivarin Co-pay is only $10 (generic). The copays on the Pegasys and Neupogen are 10%. I got a 28 day supply of the Neuop (21 vials) and I had to pay $524 out of pocket!!! The cost of it through the Aetna Specialty Pharmacy was $2680... I'm probably being ripped off... I HATE insurance companies!! Oh, I live in Florida... they probably rip us off even more here due to a high elderly population.Laurie <bostons@...> wrote: Kerri- I'm assuming (lousy choice of word! ;-)) that your drug coverage is through Aetna. Guest guest
I'll grant you that my issues with insurance were substantially less costly but, I fought for and won a Pacer Gait Trainer and a Rustler Tricycle for my son. They are durable medical equipment. The Gait Trainer was just a little shoving match but the Tricycle was full on with boxing gloves. Basically, I kept hammering the insurance company with phone calls, emails, letters until they relented. Medicaid picked up the balance. Keep an accurate journal of messages, conversations, copies of letters - everything. I do remember that the doctor who reviewed my son's case was a geriatric doctor. At the time my son was 3 yr old, diagnosed with congenital birth defects affecting his brain, unable to stand or walk on his own, unable to feed himself, etc. I used the insurance doctor's specialty to my advantage... how on earth could a doctor who specialized in old people know anything about a baby? I had a letter from the pediatrician and I think his therapists. Those types of letters will help you. I was so frustrated that I hired an attorney and that wound up costing me retainer and hourly money unneccesarily. Not that they wouldn't have done anything but insurance caved in within a couple of weeks of hiring them - before any letters were written or phone calls were made by them on my behalf. Good Luck! Too bad Marvin's not still around to take on the insurance company. wrote: Hi, My son has become increasingly aggressive toward himself and others. Guest guest
Well, in my experience with my son and from stories with others, increasing aggresssion usually results from a) physical pain seasonal allergies Of course psychologists don't get this because most of them don't have a #$%^ & *() clue about physical symptoms that go along with autism. Have you ever had him check out for allergies? Have you noticed if he's got consitpation? Could he be having really bad reflux (like so bad he's got holes in his esophagous)? Could he be having headaches? Could he have teeth coming in (my son would get very aggressive in the 2 - 3 weeks before he lost a tooth or got a replacement tooth). Personally, I would really urge you to try and rule out physical ailments first before giving him a crash room. Also, the Texas Health Steps portion of Medicaid is the one that deals with special needs and should be able to help you get the paper work you need. Just my .02 cents. Insurance woes Hi, My son has become increasingly aggressive toward himself and others. Guest guest
I agree with you cause my son's will get aggresive when their theeth were coming out or when they had their allergy season around spring. I always pay attention also when their belly is all full of gas, that can really make them agressive and cranky. Sometimes is a mosquito bite they can't scratch cause they don't know whre the itch is coming from. There are several physical thinkgs that goes on for agressive behavior. The 3 of the boy's get all of that (extra stuff that comes along with Autism. --- Singleton wrote: > Well, in my experience with my son and from stories > with others, increasing > aggresssion usually results from > a) physical pain > seasonal allergies > > Of course psychologists don't get this because most > of them don't have a > #$%^ & *() clue about physical symptoms that go along > with autism. Guest guest
Hello Jen I am sorry to hear that you are going trough this. When my middle son (5 years) will get violent or agressive, he will automatically go in to this small closet that I have , that is full of blankets and relax in there. It took me about a year to realize that , it was the safest place so we sort of let him do it and at the same time I will encourage him . by pretending everything else and everyone else outside the closet were having a blast, and one day he just came out and enjoy the party. Also sometimes self regulation and ice pops or ice cubes even a cold bath will help him a lot ( soothing) Also we got a little car bed ( so the closet thing was out of his mind) and put tones or stuff animals and pillows, then he will put a huge blanket on top and that became the " new closet) He still has his times, when we are out and he is trying to process information in wich he may feel like running and fly off a window but I notice that body pressure will help a lot, tickle monster never fells either, start tickle him and ony use it for " that " only time. My oldest ( 6) W hen he gets agressive is out of frustration or pain, so I gave him a " key word " Doctor means " pain " time alone means undr a dark blanket or in my room where there is almost no sun. That calms him down or magazines, usually " frustration becomes an issue when just do not fully understand what is going on " sort of he is confuse. Also counting, I start counting and the agression just diminish. The little one ( 3) He calms down by grabbing this hairy ball ( is weird) but it just helps Bubbles, backpacks full of stuff animals, blankets or pillows help a lot too. The agression always come out of something bothering them even to the must severe autistic kids ( I have one that is severe autistic. So you may want to figure out if is tacticle, vision, smell is all sensory related ( must of the times) Good luck and hope this helps. Feel free to e -mail me for book names or other related self agression things. > > Hi, > My son has become increasingly aggressive toward himself and others. > In response to this, his psycologist and I have decided that creating > a " safe " room where he can go and " crash " is the best thing we can do > for him. Guest guest
and speaking of that--we just had a really rough week with him-- lots of hitting & kicking and lack of impulse control-- and today, he came to me asking to help him pull out his tooth. I sent him to his dad, who took one tooth out and the one next to it fell out! I should have know. My son is 9 and is in the process of losing his side molars. Guest guest
My son gets very irritable and short fused when he has allergies and sinus problems. Over the counter meds like Benadryl, Claritin and any antihistamines drive him up the wall literally. He gets very hyper and aggressive (the only time in his life he ever shoved me was after taking a Claritin pill) needless to say he never got another one. I think you are right on target , pain and allergies and allergy meds can cause aggression. Guest guest
My daughter got a g-tube in April 08. Â The insurance company was paying for the Ensure that was prescribed by her doctor for feedings. Â A few months ago, I got a call from the vendor saying that insurance had been paying sporadically and now informed them that they should not have been paying at all and will attempt to get back the money that they had all ready paid claims on. Â I am going to try to appeal but am kind of lost in the whole process. Â I did get a letter of medical necessity from our doctor and I wrote a letter but I feel like I need more than that. Â Anyone have ideas about who to go to for help? Â We live in NJ but our insurance goes through NY where my husband works.
Guest guest
When I had insurance issues, I found out that my insurance company has " complex case managers " . I spoke to one on the phone a couple of times and she made an appeal on my behalf and got everything sorted out for me ($14,000 for a new wheelchair). Insurance woes  My daughter got a g-tube in April 08.  The insurance company was paying for the Ensure that was prescribed by her doctor for feedings.  A few months ago, I got a call from the vendor saying that insurance had been paying sporadically and now informed them that they should not have been paying at all and will attempt to get back the money that they had all ready paid claims on.  I am going to try to appeal but am kind of lost in the whole process.  I did get a letter of medical necessity from our doctor and I wrote a letter but I feel like I need more than that.  Anyone have ideas about who to go to for help?  We live in NJ but our insurance goes through NY where my husband works.
