That's all of our worst fear- sand or water!! Evan dumped a whole cup of water

on his tummy last night, it barely missed his cast.

I'm so sorry you had to have this happen, and I " m sure you'll worry.

Did you call Shriner's and tell them of the emergency- you said you

called,but they couldn't move him up?

Let us know how he does.

Like said, our worst fear with a cast is sand or water! I try to sand

proof by running all his clothes in for kindy, tight neck and tuck his

shirt into his skin tight boxers, but I know that sand can get in anywhere!!!

To have a whole bucket of sand poured down the cast is unavoidable!!! Thankgod

you are due for a cast change. Make sure you do a lot of swimming this week!!!

Funny you mentioned swimming! My husband and I just decided that we'd like to

take him in the pool at our gym (too cold for outdoors obviously!). I'm excited

because he hasn't been in the pool since he was a baby.

I don't know if they could have gotten him in sooner. I didn't ask, but I

assume that with it only being 8 days away that they figured it would be okay.

Keeping my fingers crossed. I just don't want anything like this to set us back

in the casting/bracing process.

Well, the nurse spoke to Dr. K directly and he told them to tell me to have it

cut off immediately. I figure he would have told them to get us in sooner if it

was necessary. My guess is that it probably would be hard to get me in there

within a few days. I have to admit, I am going to really treasure these extra

days of holding him closer and giving him his baths.

Oh my goodness! My nightmare is getting Max's haircut too soon

before his cast change, but sand is a million times worse. I didn't

even think about sand as an issue, we're too worried about all the

snow!

It's too bad they can't get you an appointment sooner! We went on

monday to Shriners for a cast change & they had a major scheduling

error that we waited 7 hours before Max was eventually casted. If

they can get Max in 7 hours, I would think they could squeeze Ian in

somewhere! But do keep in mind, the most rapid age for growth is

the first 2 years of life. So try not worry, enjoy these days with

Ian without a cast. It may be a good thing to let his skin breathe a

little. Positive thinking!

Yeah, sand is worse than it getting wet. The rocks and stuff can get embedded

in the skin and cause infections, so it had to come off ASAP. Not to mention

the rocks were already causing him pain. My husband is off on a business trip

on Monday anway, so unless they could get us in this in the next two days it

wouldn't work anyway. Not to mention since it is a 9 hour drive it's hard to

leave last minute. Oh, well. We're enjoyin the bit of freesom.

Oh no, that was quite an exciting day!!!!! Hopefully taking the cast

off a week early won't set his wonderful progress back. As soon as I

read your post, I thought " swimming " - I think someone has already

mentioned it. It really is the best form of exercise for back

muscles... And of course when you've been casting most of your little

life, it'll be a fantastic adventure too.

jennifer,

in the summer of 2005, lucas' one and only over the shoulder cast broke apart.

he was out of cast for 3 weeks without any support. we joined the ymca and went

swimming often. we ended up going camping and swimming at a local pond. i took

him to playgrounds and made him climb and hang a lot. i was definitely nervous,

but it was out of my hands. treasure the time you have out of cast. you will

be returning to erie very soon!

Hope the swimming goes well for Ian, . We once had a huge bull ant down

Bridget's cast. It bit her 3 times but I did manage to scoop it out by turning

her udside down and almost inside out.

A big wave got her cast at the beach one day too. We managed to dry it out

with a hair dryer on cool. It took ages though.

Hi ,

Sorry to hear about Ian's ordeal. Just wanted to let you know, we just had

Nadia's cast changed on Thursday. Dr. K said he is less worried about letting

kids out of casts longer- he doesn't seem to think it makes as a big a

difference as he used to think. He recommended that we have Nadia out for a

whole week next time to let her skin heal up thoroughly- she always has skin

issues. hope that helps you worry a little less, and so sorry you had to go

through this. Enjoy the swim time!

Nadia's cast changed on Thursday. Dr. K said he is less worried about letting

kids out of casts longer- he doesn't seem to think it makes as a big a

I just spoke to Jane at Shriners. She said they just found out last week

and he will discuss it with his patients (parent's). She also said that his

patient's have the option to follow him or they can be treated by Dr. .

She did say she thought he had a handful of patients that came from the south

and they would probably follow him.
