Guest guest
Well, I've never done anything except sprout, but I learned EVERYTHING I KNOW FROM EW!!! So whatever he says to do, DO!! I wonder if one can do onion and garlic sprouts. Wow!! would THAT BE SOME ADDITION TO MY SPROUT SALADS!!!! lol And if you want to see any of my videos, just go to youtube, type in eliz7212 in the search and ALL of them will pop up. You'll even see me and my hubby singing Jingle Bells. And now that I have a new webcam and I finally figured out how to use it, well I plan on making the most gorgeous sprout salad and putting it on video. Guest guest
I would love to see a video of onion and garlic sprouts. I got one good batch of onions last time but garlic failed. This time both failed. I will take EW's advice and keep moist and out of the light.                                                       \            From: Melody <eliz7212@...> Subject: Re: How come no one saw my blog!! Guest guest
Yes, they are a very pleasant addition to your salads. Sprout people sells both seeds. The first time I did onion seeds eas very early in my sprouting career. When I went out on lectures, I sprouted in all kinds of things to show people how easy it is. I took twp one liter water bottles and cut about three inches off the bottoms. In one I poked holes, filled it with my 50/50 mix and spreads seeds on top. Set the one with seeds in the other for a drain. If you want to try this, sow the seed real heavy. When the seeds are two to three inches tall, you can snip them off to eat and they will grow back. I don't know how many cuttings that you can get. I always took them to shows and they got eaten. If you want to give this a try with out spending a lot of money, pick up a pack of scallion seeds at your local store. They're more expensive that way than bulk, but its a good way to do a test.Green onion are great about regrowing. When I go into my garden to get scallions, I carefully dig them up so as not to disturb the roots too much, cut off about and inch and a half above the roots and put that portion back in the ground. They very happily will grow another green onion. PS: onions are another seed I save from year to year that I don't have to buy. ew Re: How come no one saw my blog!! Guest guest
Sorry, I meant to keep them out of direct sunlight. Mine sit in a North facing kitchen window. I bought a piece of plastic that is three inches deep and just fits in the window frame. I screwed it down so that I have lots of room for items that I sprout in medium. I have a spray bottle with water. Two or three times a day, I give the sprouts that are in trays a misting. I retired so I'm here to do that. I do this less in the winter than the summer. ew Re: How come no one saw my blog!! Guest guest
Glad you liked it. When they give you the option of selecting a template, you can scroll through several backgrounds and colors, and I remember saying 'GREEN GREEN GREEN " , because SPROUTS ARE GREEN!! And BINGO, there was this dark green template and I said 'Perfect " . Now if Melody could devise a way of adding little sprouts to the borders, well that would be delicious. lol Melody > > > > Hi everyone. > > > > Someone suggested that I do a blog on my sprouting. Guest guest
EW: I have a question about my rinsing and draining. I discovered something VERY INTERESTING THIS MORNING. I found an even easier method of rinsing and draining. I know you mist by the windowsill (I used to do this but for me it didn't do the trick (maybe because I used the green sprouting trays). All I got was wilted sprouts. So, as you know, I now use the steamers and for a few days before they go into the steamers, I use colanders. Well, this morning I had 6 colanders of microgreens (one day old), and two green trays of fenugreek (2 days old). So usually, I would go over to the kitchen sink, hold the colander or green tray under the running water, take my hands, move the sprouts around, and then plop them on the big home-made drain board that sits behind the sink. For some reason, I got this idea " WHY NOT JUST HAVE A BOWL OF WATER IN THE SINK AND DUNK THEM " . So I filled a bowl with water, and in 5 seconds flat, I had dunked ALL my colanders and green trays and placed them on the drainboard. I said " wow, how fast was this.? " All the sprouts got a good drink, and now they are draining nicely. I will then put them back on the shelves and cover them up. what do you think? I see no reason how this system would not work. It's extremely fast, the sprouts don't go anywhere, you don't lose any sprouts in the sink or bowl that's filled with water. I just take the colander with the sprouts inside the, dunk them for a few seconds until I know they have a good drink, and pick up the colander. I do this with them all. Just imagine all the water I saved? No running water, the SAME WATER IS USED TO GIVE ALL OF THE SPROUTS A NICE DRINK!!! I think this is cool. What do you think. If you think this is a good alternative, I'll put this info on my blog. Thanks much Melody > > > > > > Hi everyone. > > > > > > Someone suggested that I do a blog on my sprouting. I live in a private house, and when you walk outside, we have a stoop and on the left, I have flower pots in which (during the summer), I usually plant some basil, and other herbs. I GUESS I WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE WATER AS SOON AS I PLANT HERBS IN A FEW MONTHS.!! lol, Melody > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi everyone. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Someone suggested that I do a blog on my sprouting. Guest guest
Melody, I do this also to save water and then use the water in my backyard garden. I have a lot of little plants growing that I cannot identify, but I think they will be good for eating in the spring.                                                       \            From: 99tomatoes@... <99tomatoes@...> Subject: Re: How come no one saw my blog!! Date: Friday, February 19, 2010, 10:17 AM  Melody, exactly the right thing to do. Next make sure that water doesn't go to waste. ew Re: How come no one saw my blog!! Guest guest
Melody, don't you lose sprouts and seeds through the holes in the colanders and the steamers? I have been using the Easy Sprout, maybe that's my problem. billie                                                       \            From: Melody <eliz7212verizon (DOT) net> Subject: Re: How come no one saw my blog!!
