Hi Heidi,

This whole situation is kind of strange. I had a stricture of the common

bile duct. No one knows how I got it. I was very lucky because most people

who have this have cancer, I didn't. I kept having pancreatis and was in the

hospital 13 times with it. So they had to do a Whipple, which was removal of a

lot of the digestive system. Now this surgery was because of a blockage. They

thought it was scar tissue until they went in. It was all bile twisting the

intestines and causing all kinds a problems. Two surgeries like these two has

been hard but I am getting through it. I just never expected the second

surgery. Now to learn that there is a very good possibility that there will be

more surgery. I am not going to think about that, I just want to get well.

Next Sunday is my granddaughter's birthday and I have to try and make her

party. Her real birthday is Halloween. Right now my daughter in law is

pregnant and this baby is due on St. 's Day. I ask her if they planned

this. Thank you for you note. I hope you are well today.

a,

I'm so sorry you still aren't feeling well. It does take a long time for

whiplash to heal. The headaches are terrible. I hope for you this will soon

end.

I have been having headaches in the morning and my jaw has been hurting so

bad.

I am starting to wonder if I have TJM. I see the dentist next week, so I will

ask

him. If I do it would solve the headache issue. The more I read here the more

I

think that I may have it.

You are right about to, my gut feeling is he didn't do the surgery. I

think

the resident did it. I guess I should try and make an appointment but I think I

want to see how things go. The belching is awful it went on for hours last

night ,

even with the medicine. I see the GI specialist soon. On a positive note I

managed

to get out and go for a little walk yesterday. It was so nice, I am a big

walker.

I hope to go again today, I feel it is the only way I am going to get stronger.

I

only made it around the block twice but that is better than nothing.

I really hope you start to feel better. I just remember how painful it was

when

I had it. It does take time to go away so hang in there.

Dear Lynn,

I also did not know about the sock filled with rice.

Is it a special kind of rice? I hope that you will

see an oral surgeon that specializes in TMJ because a

splint can really help that pain.

Hugs to you. Iris

Hi Alan,

The sock is great and does help. Hope you were able to go to the site

sent, it explains it better than I can. I am not upset about being told

I have TJM. I was worried about the headaches and at least now I know what

is causing them. So its okay. I just thought it was funny when the dentist

mentioned chewing. Like I can really eat anything that requires a lot of

chewing. I just laughed.

Hope you are okay,

Hi Al,

Just be careful with the sock, it gets very hot. But does it ever feel

good. It stays warm for about 1/2 hour which is nice.

Hi Heidi,

This is good but it is only a battle. They will do it again probably in the

spring, at least that is what my attorney is telling me. I want to do the

Remicade but after all this news of Deb, I am having my doubts. I have till

March to decide. I was on remicade before but that was when I got sick and it

had to stop. Actually, I had the last infusion September 16 and got sick on the

18.

How are you feeling? Hope all is well.

Hi Lynn,

I took Spring term off this year, when I was first diagnosed. I thought by

then my RA would be under control and not an issue in my life. It didn’t

quite work out that easily, but I have learned to live with the RA a little

better.

What is your major? I’m studying computer programming.

I hope you’re doing well.

Love and hugs,

Carol

Re: [ ] Done with classes

Congratulations Carol, I go to school, well at least I was. I had to drop

this

semester due to the surgery. I know what a great feeling it is to be

finished

finals. I am anxious to get back in January. My daughter Laurie is

currently

in her room studying for her last final. She is a senior in college hoping

to

go on to grad school.

Hi Carol,

I am studying Historic Preservation and History. Don't know how I ended up

with a double major but I did. You can not get a bachelor in Historic

Preservation and that is what I really like. You have to mix history with it.

So I take American History. I really only am interested in how this country

got started and why people came here. It is very interesting and living near

Philadelphia is so nice.

Sometimes when the RA is bad, I work with the department for student with

disabilities. It works out well.

I had to drop my metho, liver problem. I'm not worried it will straighten

itself out. How are you doing?

Hi Lynn...

You seem to be a very busy young lady... a double major!! You're in an

excellent spot to be studying historic preservation, as well as American

history...!

My father's parents are both from the Philly area - my grandad from just

outside of Philly, I believe the area is now known as Ardmore; but I know it

as Overbrook and my grandmother was born in Haddonfield, NJ (quite near to

Batsto, NJ).

One of the buildings that made up my boarding school was Edith Wharton's

house - The Mount - in Lenox, MA... they have done incredible restoration

there - not just the building, but the vast gardens.

I am in the slow and tedious process of working on my family genealogy...

adding lines of descent to the various branches of the families that married

into the line. Speaking of ... my great-great-great uncle was

ph (founder & benefactor of Bryn Mawr College)... lol.

When you were taking the Methotrexate... didn't your MD prescribe Folic Acid

...??? Ever since I was diagnosed with RA, I've taken both (as well as

prednisone).

stay safe...

Lynn,

What a fascinating major! I am a big history buff, and I’ve always enjoyed

my history classes, particularly American history.

I’m just finishing my associate’s degree, and I’ll probably go on and

continue towards my bachelor’s. I already have some credits I can use

toward it from years ago. I’m going to major in Liberal Arts and minor in

computer science. That way a lot of my computer courses will go toward my

degree, and I can study in another area I’m interested in.

Sorry to hear you had to discontinue your MTX. Are you hurting a lot? I

hope you don’t flare for the holidays. How are things after your surgery?

I’m doing pretty well. I’ve been busy, and still have more to do tonight.

My joints seem to be cooperating pretty well thus far.

Happy Holidays!

Love and hugs,

Carol

Hi Carol,

I am also working towards an associate. I have been accepted at Temple but

not sure I will do it. As it gets closer I doubt my intelligence, so we will

see. I have stayed away from anything computer, it scares me. I think I like

saving old buildings.

I must have typed wrong, I had to lower my metho. It is okay it will

straighten itself out. I think with the surgery, I have decided that I will

never eat like a normal person. I just have to accept this, I try to be

thankful for what I do have. I got through the surgeries and I didn't have

cancer and that is a lot to be thankful for. I will just have to deal with the

eating problems. If I eat just little tiny bits I'm okay but what I wouldn't

give for a slice of pizza or a salad. I am thinking maybe I could eat a tomato

pie, have to think about it.

a also takes classes and I think in computers. We should all encourage

each other. I do know we have a few others here who go to school.

Hi,

I do live in an excellent area for history. One of the reason the college I

go to has historic preservation is because of the area of history we live in. I

have never been to Overbrook but I do know of it. I have a friend who has been

doing her genealogy of her family for 25 years. She has found thousands of

people in her family. I take metho by injection and yes I also take folic

acid. My doctor told me, I had to take it with the metho. I am still on metho

just my dosage had to be reduced because of the liver test. I'm not worried,

I'm sure it will straighten itself out. I also take prednisone, don't like

taking it but what can you do. If you need it you need it.

Interesting to see Batso mentioned. I grew up a few miles from Batsto. I

used to ride my bike to the mansion quite frequently. The history if very

interesting.

a,

Tell me about this place I have not seen it. My favorite place in Pa., is

Rittenhouse Town. It is an old German village. It is were paper was first made

in

this country. I could sit down there forever, it is very nice. I go whenever I

can. While being involved in Historic Preservation I have been to some

wonderful

places. That is why I am surprised I don't know about Batsto. I have to check

it

out.

How are you feeling? Are the headaches and neck any better?

Batsto was known for its iron making and glass industry until the end of the

Civil war. Ammunition for the Continental Army was made there as well as

parts for ships. Years later it became a sawmill. It has a very

interesting history. Here is some reading if you'd like to know about it.

Is Rittenhouse Town the same as Rittenhouse Square?

No the headaches are not letting up. I'm going to therapy 3 times a week.

My neck is getting better in some areas and not getting better in others.

Hopefully in time it will get back to normal. I hope you have a nice

weekend.

That¹s pretty cool! I have read about your family and their accomplishments

at Batsto.

Have you ever been there? One of my favorite places to kayak is the Batsto

River.

Hi a...

Yes... I visited Batsto and the cemetery at the Methodist church back in the

mid-80s when I was living in NJ.

It was kinda neat visiting an actual place where my ancestors lived.

I also drove around Hammonton where my grandmother was born.

Hi a,

I knew your headaches would take a long time to go away, mine did. I do

hope in

time you will feel better.

Rittenhouse Towne and Rittenhouse Square are different. I am going to look

up

and see if I can find a site for Rittenhouse Towne. I just have to look in my

preservation stuff. Rittenhouse Square is downtown and Rittenhouse Towne is at

Drive and Rittenhouse. Right outside of Germantown, not sure what the

area is

called, probably just Philly. It is a wonderful place though. Of all the

historic

places I have been too this is my favorite. Probably because it was a German

settlement, it is quiet, and I believe that way things must have been.

Originally

built in the early 1600's. I will post that site. Have you ever been to

Bartrum's

Gardens that is another wonderful place. Beautiful house and the gardens are

unbelievable.

Hope you have a good week end.
