If you are in a place that requires major remediation to be

liveable, the experience of those of us who tried and failed says

that it is more likely that you will just continue to become more

ill until you have no other option but to crawl out or take your

last breath.

Our experience indicates that it is better to make the jump sooner

than later.

Even if the place was successfully remediated, it would take a long

time before the ambient toxin level denatures - and your recovery

will probably be very slow.

If you went all-out on avoidance instead of persisting in a place

that needs major work, your chances of improving swiftly and

returning to work are greatly increased.

Quack, I'm sorry I " yelled " at you. Sort of. I'd do it again, if I thought it

would help you focus a little more so you could get better. (It might not be the

best thing. It's definitely no a nice thing. It's just the only way I've figured

to cut through the fog.)

I do understand your landlord is a bum. But he's not helping you. I understand

Katrina is a terrible thing. That's where my family is from, and they are sick.

I even understand your thinking that a degree can be helpful in getting

employment. But it's not mandatory. I didn't have one for well over 40 years.

Remember that I have never, NEVER said that anything is your fault. It's not

your fault. But it IS your responsibility to help yourself. That's a different

concept altogether. Being in mold will make you stone crazy, and the danger is

that you will, because of it, not be able to take responsibility and do what

needs doing. To be " responsible " means, " able to respond " . The illness can and

will leave you in that condition.

You don't have a philosphical problem. (Well, maybe you do, but we can argue

about that later when you feel better. ; ) You have a very real and present

survival problem. I am worried about it _because_ you keep wandering off into

the ozone. The illness can cause that. Did it to me, too. I know that you don't

want to go, but if you could stay with a friend or relative for a little while

or something, it might help clear your mind so you can really get on this and BE

able to respond. Right? This isn't likely to be any fun for you, but the beauty

of this group is that you can hook it up whever you happen to be. (Ask Bob. He's

gotten very good at it.)

personally, I have eaten through my financial resources and I can't

make more money until I get better.

That means landlord cleaning up place. Other landlords do it. I pay

good money for my apartment, probably much more than most people on

the list do for their spaces. (almost $1400/month)

I live in a multi-unit apartment under rent control. Almost all the

other housing units in my neighborhood are also rental stock. As a

whole, the rents in my building are comparable to others in the

neighborhood. However, our building is perhaps the worst maintained.

Our house is the only house on our block that consistantly floods. Our

landlord doesn't do practically any real maintenance and for years we

have been on our own. At this point, our building *smells*. The

Department of Building Inspection has issued them an ultimatum, which

they are ignoring. The Department of Health has also cited them for

the mold.

I don't know what it is but there is something wrong with these people.

*I have always been a good tenant* in places I have lived and tried to

keep up the buildings. Before I moved here I was healthy and didn't

even have any allergies, now I am in terrible health. For many years i

had no idea what was causing my decline into sickness.

Now it is obvious, as you can see the effect on my of having fans

blowing fresh air in (freezing cold) vs. no fans. (illness) I don't

have a degree, so I can't really get a corporate job with decent

insurance in this economy until I recover. For people with degrees,

its a lot easier. They don't understand this, though. How hard it is

for the formerly middle class working people of this country. because

they are profoundly alone.

Serena's .sig file quotes Ayn Rand, which implies to me that she has

an agenda to some extent. Perhaps I have an agenda too, but its not

the one some are trying to pin on me.

I just think that it is the *landlord's* responsibility to provide a

safe living space as their part of the contract between them and a

tenant. If they deliberately try to shirk that responsibility to save

money, that might be forgivable IF they cleaned up their act when they

realized that they were making people SICK. But if anything, that has

made my landlord worse. Which to me makes them a PREDATOR. A slumlord.

A killer.

Thats wrong.. they are completely evil to do that.. I feel that its my

obligation to fight people like that.

Thats all.

,

To be honest, I'm gradually coming to this same conclusion. You put

this good advice very well..

And I am thinking about this a lot. Really, as I am now feeling ill,

(and increasingly, often nauseous quite a bit when I am in cars) I am

having it rubbed in my face..

But as this is clearly my landlord's goal -to force us and the other

older tenants in the building, time - and rent wise, out, and also

since its clearly *their* fault, they are laughing at me.. I am sure.

Its complicated..

If people like me just leave and let them get away with doing this,

then we are all f---ed.. (excuse my 'french'.) and might as well just

dig our graves now and get it over with..

Look, I have the same issues as the other people here, with the

exception of children.. (God, then i would be losing it.. seriously)

My main concern is - is this health damage - in particularly the

neurological issues I have now - permanent? You know how it goes and I

am listening to your advice..

Health is the most important thing...Everything else, even legal

issues, are secondary..

Thank you, all of you for caring..

I had 4 moldy places, 3 landlords and they all were slumlords and

these were not cheap places. They were all wrong as all I wanted was

them to clean the mold. We learned as we went along having to move

so many times. We didn't have the money, and had to throw away our

belongings several times. You can worry about the justice later and

just find a safe place. I was going to school and had big plans

before this-- but since I was in the mold too long, I can barely

visit someone now without problems. I will never be able to work. Do

you have the chemical sensitivity yet? I finally got away from the

mold but now can't live with fragrance of any kind, cooking causes

such pain, etc. It is very hard work, but it is worth leaving. I

am not in pain every minute like when I was in the mold. I get the

pain when my neighbor does laundry or when I try to go to the grocery

store, or or when my husband cooks, etc. And of course I live with

the damage that the mold did on my body, lungs, sinusus, neurological

problems, muscle pain. My husband seems to be much better, atleast

he can work.

I can relate to you . I am so struggling to work now. The stress of needing

to work is making my stress so much worse. My husband wants to put me on

antidepressants but I am so afraid that it will make me more toxic & get much

worse. He doesn't understand & thinks I should try it. The MD's can't find

anything wrong with me. I have no hormones,no energy, lots of mycotoxin

antibodies. I can't find a doc to put me on CSM because my cholesterol is too

low. I had to take my daughter to dance class & could hardly do that. Loni

Does going out in the sun a lot improve one's MSH? Or taking any

precursor nutrients, etc?

On his web site, Dr. Schaller says zinc supplements can improve MSH levels..

How much does it cost to have your MSH tested?

I haven't followd the obesity thread b/c I'm the opposite but I

think for sure it is causing me not to be able to eat. I have now

smell, taste, no appetite and it's like starving me to death. It's

so horrible. I think I'd rather be getting the weight on than

starving. I'm trying to stay above 100 lbs and not easy. This has

happened slowly and really bad the last three years. I will read

the obesity post when I get a chance b/c interesting beleive someone

said the toxins are doing that which I guess starving me or feeding

off me. It's not a good feeling to not eat and shrink either and I

don't have any urge to eat and food makes me even more nauseated.

I stay naseated all the time like a hangover. Never feel rested

which is exhausting but the low dose naltrexone has helped like I

said before tremendously I think fighting the toxins as much as

possible with the immune system. I'm not promoting this in any way

just saying something that has helped me survive the laste year and

glad I found it.

Rhonda, I gained 70 lbs over 10 years from cronic exposure, then

lost over 40 in a few months when I crashed, Dr were telling me not

to loose any more weight, but I could not keep from loosing- now

have been stable for a year, so am trying to loose the last 30 ,

with CSM to sop up the toxin as I go- Loosing is a bad sign- try to

live someplace else while you get the place fixed- no good having a

home if you are crippled or dead- good luck;

Just wanted to mention that we threw away our old mattresses and furniture a few

days ago and have been sleeping on the floor. Though I am getting some stiffness

due to this, but I have more energy, head clearing, more appetite etc. I just

couldn't believe that mattress ruined my life for the past 5 years ! I also lose

weight very easily and this has been happening for several years.

Jay, I got a neat present at Christmas. It was a 3 " high-quality memory foam

topper for my mattress. Since I'm no longer in contact with the mattress itself,

I could easily encase the original mattress in a plastic barrier and say goodbye

to anything that ever thought about taking up residence in there. I have no idea

what the topper's ultimate performace will be as regards dustmites and mold

spores, it isn't permeable like woven fabrics, so I'm really not too worried

about it. I also swapped out my regular pillows for a memory foam neck roll for

about $10. An ordinary washable mattress pad seems to be all that is needed to

cover it. It doesn't get all sweaty and nasty like an air mattress does, doesn't

come with its own assortment of critters like a down featherbed, and doesn't act

like a heat sink (I'd compare it to soft leather in the way it retains and

dissipates body heat very consistently and evenly). YMMV, but I notice no smell

from the foam material at all - nothing like

what PVC or urethane products usually give off.

I could just as easily throw it right on the floor and sleep on it without

getting stiff if I wanted to. Various articles I've read rate it as being just

about as good as those

grossly expensive mattresses that are built with the memory foam already

attached.

Hi Sue -

It was a gift so I don't have the price and all, but I think it came from

overstock.com. Another non-silver bullet, but everything helps a little.

Rhonda,

I am having the same problems like you with the weight. I can't seem to get

any on me!!! I went from a size 14 to a size 6-8 in less than 8 months. I had a

severe digestive problem after the exposure and it had gotten better with the

Aciphex but now , my first day on CSM......OH BOY!!!! BELCH CITY!!!

Right now I am at the library and my abdomen really hurts.( Like before the

Aciphex)

Take care and let me know if you find out a secret to gain some weight.

Thanks,

Marcie

Thanks for the idea , Serena. But those are pricey too. I will wait to buy the

mattress until we move in to the new house. I think the most important thing for

me is to buy the mattress cover that is mold, dust mite resistant. Any ideas ?

Thanks

etc. I just couldn't believe that mattress ruined my life for the past 5 years !

I also lose weight very easily and this has been happening for several years.

There is no such thing as an anomaly. Recheck your original premise.

Marcie, The mold destroys the intestinal mucosa & I lost 20 lbs over just a

couple of months of over exposure (remediation). I have been diagnosed with

leaky gut & used Ultra Clear Sustain. It repairs the intestines & it does work.

I was loosing weight when I was diagnosed with leaky gut (didn't know at that

point it was mold doing the damage) & that was 2002 around. So I repaired it

then & I am trying to repair it again because this recently just happened

between July & Nov. Then you will gain weight again. The food leaks into the

circulation & you develop lots of allergic responses to foods & such. It is very

damaging to liver also. THat's what happened to me anyway. Loni

Thanks,

Marcie
