: I have a great recipe at home - I will send it to the list this

evening if I have time; if not, tomorrow. I have 2 batches of soap to make,

and some foot rub (possibly lotion as well). I also have to unpack from a

weekend trip (we had a soaper's convention of the TX Soap Maker's

Association!!), so I will be busy!

Wish I could help right away....

I am looking for a recipe for shampoo bars. I would like to know

ingredients and instructions unless it's like cp soap (if it's like

cp soap just say so). Please also note if the recipe is for dry hair

or oily hair.

Thanks a bunch

Hi !! I had a minute before soapin and eatin (hope I don't get

confused!!) and found my recipe. This is not MY recipe, but RJ Higgins

(from http://www.herbalsoapsbyrj.com/recipes.htm), but since she has it

on her site, I don't think there is any harm in posting it here. She is

out of pocket at the moment, or I would ask permission...

RJ's Shampoo Bar

8oz coconut Oil

6oz Avocado Oil

11oz Olive Oil

2oz Castor Oil

3.7oz lye

8oz water

1 Tbs. Wheat Germ

I throw my oils in the crockpot, except for

the wheat germ, melt them on high, add my lye water, bring to trace, add

my wheat germ oil, cook, cool slightly & add my fragrance! I love this

shampoo bar! I don't even need a conditioner for my long hair anymore!

Have fun!!

Hi Angel,

The coconut oil in your recipe is not fractionated coconut oil. They are

different. You were right to be suspicious :-))

Is there any recipe out there that does not call for lye? Sort of like a

lotion bar, only shampoo? I really don't want to start working with lye,

for a variety of reasons.

Thanks!!!

Just curious, are you wanting it to clean or be a conditioner? If you wanted to

make some cleansing products but not have lye around couldn't you dabble w/ soap

noodles, rebatch, soap bases, etc. Christi in Dallas

Melody: I supposed you could wash your hair with Melt and Pour. Not really

sure though.

What are you thinking about 'lye' that you don't want to use it? I

understand that young children and pets don't mix with lye, but if you use

common sense and simple safety measures, lye is no different than any oil or

water, or any other additive to soaping. You do have to pay attention,

measure correctly, wear goggles and probably gloves (I don't wear my gloves

any more, but definitely did the first couple of times I used lye). Heck!!

One time I actually picked up the wrong cup and DRANK lye (ok... I didn't

drink it - I did have it in my mouth and spit it back out.. I knew

IMMEDIATELY what I did!! LOL - and then I rinsed with straight vinegar).

Keep a spray bottle of vinegar around while soaping and you have a quick

clean up.

That's the main reason....I just don't want to go to all that trouble. I

use M & P and it's so much easier and faster and hassle free! I know the

other ways are much more " natural " , but I work full time an hour away from

home, and have 2 teenagers, and just don't have the time OR the room for all

that!

I make my own soap now but was actually nervous at first to try it from

scratch and work with the lye. A Garden Eastward sells a shampoo bar

soap base and I used that and added some Monoi De Tahiti to it. Made a

wonderful shampoo bar (had to get used to it though because we were so

used to the detergents and films covering our hair. This doesn't leave

a coating on the hair).

Hope this helps,

I make an after bath spray with Monoi De Tahiti and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I

package it in clear spray bottles, and tint it lavender!

That wasn't Sherry, honey, that was me!! I used 3.5 oz. distilled water, 30

drops of Monoi De Tahiti Oil and 25-30 drops of Polysorbate 20. I also

added TINY amounts of color, so that it is a beautiful lavender shade. VERY

easy to make, and the scent lasts for quite awhile. I use it every morning

when I get out of the shower and it makes me feel so girlie!!

That was actually Melody's recipe. So far I've only used it to superfat

soap and shampoo bars. The after bath spray sounds divine though

doesn't it?

Sure will, sweetie!! The recipe is SOOO simple. Just mix 3.5 oz. of

distilled water with 30 drops of whatever EO or FO you wish to use and 30

drops of Polysorbate 20, which will keep the oil and water mixed. I bottle

it in clear bottles, and mix a little bit of color to make it pretty. This

spray is so light, but the fragrance lasts a long time. It's great for

summer!

Thanks Hon. Could I ask two more dumb questions?? Where can I get

polysorbate? and, do you know anything that will keep glycerin and oil

mixed.??? Want to make some lip gloss, and add some fine glitter to it.

The glycerin and oil won't mix, and of course, the glitter wanders and

separates. Sure would appreciate any ideas you might have, Holly

Now where would one find Polysorbate 20? Like at Walmart or...?

Angel (curious as ever!)

I'm reading this post from the middle but I'm loving the bath spray. What

color do you use, liquid? Oh and BTW where do you buy it from. I'm looking for

a supplier by referal. Thanks Pamela
