Guest guest
I hope that your urinary K is a 24-hour test, and that they include urinary sodium. That is the only way for sure to know what level of sodium you're eating. I would not touch Vytorin. Google it and read about it. I don't understand why anyone is prescribing it. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of slesfam1@... The dash DASH diet is a low sodium diet right? My sodium levels are low to low normal and I crave salt really bad. My endo thought I had hypoaldosterism but now I not sure of what she thinks. She has started to give my k pills again and test my k every couple of days but still no change. As far as my urinary K, It has never been tested!(I know unbelievable)Today my regular PCM is going to do it and I will past as soon as I know more. My meds are listed below. Guest guest
Under U.S. law, you are entitled to copies of your records. Send, deliver or fax a request in writing to your endo. Ask for a copy of everything in your file, to date, and offer to pay for the cost. You have to take charge of your own care and you can't do it without information. In addition to aldo/renin, be sure to get all your thyroid test results. Chances are, he didn't do the correct ones. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of slesfam1@... Hi Val, I have been tested for celiac but it was neg. As far as aldo & renin I cannot get my hands on. Guest guest
Yes but your low Na is not likely due to low diet Na. You want the low sodium version of the DASH as well. Why are you on each pill. It looks to me like too many pills. When was each started and did it help with what it was being given for. Please give Dx tests done for Pernicious Anemia-the other PA-and only good reason to give B12. Clarence E. Grim, BS, MS, MD On Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 06:58AM, " slesfam1@... Guest guest
Spot urine K is not very reliable except to see if it is very low or high. If low they you are either not eating enough K, vomiting it up, losing it in diarrhea or sweating unless you taking diuretics an stopped just before testing. Do you have the exact numbers? Guest guest
No my urinary k was a random sample but they said it was normal. I believe that my sodium levels were tested thru the blood. I am having to fight to get everything. I am working between my PCM and my endo (at the same time) and between the two of them I am gonna get some stuff done! lol My PCM is gonna call me Friday and let me know all the test HE wants me to have done. My endo is trying the k supp AGAIN.....as if she thinks I am not telling the truth.I get my k tested tomorrow with 40meq. After that what she is gonna do is beyond me.She is real nice but very busy. She is so booked up that I cannot get a follow up so she just calls me and tells me what she wants me to do. I did not know vytorin was bad ......I will for sure check that out! > > > > Recommend you start the DASH diet ASAP and do it to the max till we get > more information. Guest guest
Dr. Grim, I so agree with the amount of meds but I need them I guess. I think I have one major problem that if my docs could solve ..3/4ths of the med would go bye bye. Zoloft---- 100 mg 1x Daily - was given for extreme pms and mood issues- life altering must have been on for 11 yrs Protonix--- 40 mg 1x Daily - for acid reflux - only thing that has ever worked for me (have hernia, thickening of lower esophagus) Been on for 6 yrs Magnesium------ 400mg 1x daily Vitamin D--- 50000 IU 1x week Iron Supp---- 65 mg 1x daily These three i go deficient in as soon as I am off them. I have been on all three for a month now B-12 --------1000mcg 1 x Monthly - My level before inj was 107, pills don't work and I go deficient again within three months.I drop 400 to 500 points a month. They (docs) refuse to test for pernicious anemia.I think it is due to cost. They said it did not matter anyway because the treatment was the same.My numbness in arms and legs is so bad and without it it gets to the point I have a hard time controlling my extremities.been on for 4 or 5 yrs now. Zolpidem -- 10mg 1x daily I only use as needed to help me sleep.Between 10pm and midnight I cannot sleep even though I am soo tired. My mind just won't shut down. Been on a month. Pataday------- as needed I have-- allergic pink eye. been on a year. Albuterol----- as needed for mild asthma (when I get overheated or experience strong emotion (ex. laughing & crying) been on for two or three years. Hardly use it cause I manage better on my own. Vytorin--------10mg-20mg 1x daily--for cholesterol Just put on this 5 days ago Potassium CL ER----20 MEQ 1x daily- for k def_ NOT WORKING Oracea--------40mg 1x daily- for rosecea. Was just put on the three rosecea meds so I do not know how they will work Finacea 15%------ apply (face) 1x AM-- for rosecea. Sodium Sulfacetamide 10% & Sulfur 5%-----apply (face)1x PM -for rosecea Humira 40mg---bi-weekly(forgot this one)---Is fantastic my psoriasis has just about disappeared - been on for three months.Had psoriasis for about three years now. > >> > >> Recommend you start the DASH diet ASAP and do it to the max till we get more information. I am gonna get tomorrow ! : ) I eat plenty and on supp. I do not vomit but ever since I had my gallbladder removed I do have to go potty shortly after eating. Most of the time it is normal but on occasion it is diarrhea. I have also been told my my PCM that alcoholic's can have very low potassium. So I feel the need to say I am not an alcoholic ...mater of fact I do not drink at all. > >> > >> Recommend you start the DASH diet ASAP and do it to the max till we get > >more information. Guest guest
Blood sodium levels do not really indicate how much sodium you're getting in your diet. If they are going to be doing a 24-hour urine, be sure they include sodium. The information that has been released (very late) on Vytorin leads me to not trust drug makers and to avoid as many drugs as possible, especially if they're still under patent. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of slesfam1@... Guest guest
Hi , You originally asked why your K was low. I don't have the answer, but I do have more questions. ;-) You mention that you took Spiro and tried Inspra. But you are not on them now? They aren't listed in the list of meds you're on. And your BP is 123/85? -Sam > > >> >> >> > > >> >> >> Recommend you start the DASH diet ASAP and do it to the max till we get > > >> >> >more information. Guest guest
NEW UPDATE Today labs for was 2.8 on k and magnesium was low too! I was told to up my k to 40meq 2 x daily and magnesium to 400mg 2x day. So my potassium went down from 2.9 less than 12 hrs after taking 40 meq of k. Wow what the heck! How long is she gonna up my k before looking in other directions? > > >> >> >> > > >> >> >> Recommend you start the DASH diet ASAP and do it to the max till we get > > >> >> >more information. Guest guest
One of the controlling factors for aldo secretion is K. When it is low the adrenal does not seem to make so much so this could be the cause of " normal " aldo. The Maxzide will increase both renin and aldo. Did they do a 24 hr urine at the same time for Na, K and creatinine? Clarence E. Grim, BS, MS, MD On Thursday, April 23, 2009, at 11:45AM, " slesfam1@... Guest guest
No I have never had a 24 hr urine even though I have requested it MANY times. I have a feeling though I will get it soon. The endo keeps talking protocol. It is driving me crazy. > >> >> >> >> > >> >> >> >> Recommend you start the DASH diet ASAP and do it to the max till we get > >> >> >> >more information. Guest guest
Read the Endocrine Society Guidelines. They are attached and in the files. This tells the protocol to make a diagnosis.
