I've found that I have to have my groups set to " traditional " in order

to have them make any sense. It's all thanks to their new

" functional " mode that is screwing things up. If someone happens to

respond to a message in a topic, unrelated to the message, it still

archives it to that topic.

Ex. Topic = Rice Bran Oil. A member reads that post and decides to

respond from that post with a question/subject heading about wilting

lettuce. Now that subject will be under the topic of Rice Bran Oil

for life and it'll drag the archived topic of all the messages under

Rice Bran Oil around with it for life.

So that was a bit silly, but you get the idea! I was wondering why I

was missing posts while reading from the group. Then I realized that

this is a major glitch in 's new system and it was actually

skipping posts on me. Gotta love !!

I really don't have a way to do the swimming, but I think it would be a

GREAT exercise to help strengthen.

Hi

When I do my exercises in a pool I have hardly any soreness in the knee

afterwards. Less stress in the joints I suppose. Also I'm not constantly worried

that my knee is in the wrong position.

It probably means that UC did not fund the study so that the

study was exempt from their criteria. These criteria are there to

protect study subjects from inhumane levels of suffering/danger etc.

The feds have human-subject-study criteria as do the research

institutions themselves.

Hi Kathie,

I received that machine in the mail following my procedure. It came with a tape telling me how to use it. Also, when I was at the doctors office they showed me right there. There was no cost to me. And I have used it 3 times already. It's great, you can send the information they need to monitor you without leaving home. I do it every 6 months from home. and see the doctor every 6 months. I alternate. It's cool.

As I said the machine and when I transmit does not cost me anything.

Good Morning, I have had this unit also, my medicade

paid for it while i was using it, then the Cardio dr

decided to have me come to the office to have mine

checked. I did receive a bill once from the tester and

believe it was around 90$. Check with your insurance

to see or make sure if they will cover this. Who the

manufacture of your ICD, mine is St. Jude Medical.

The unit you're referring to is called a TENS unit, and the answer off

the top of my head is " no. " Her cardiologist should be able to answer

definitively, though. They are very helpful, those units. I have one

and haven't dared try it since my implant.

I believe you are talking about TENS therapy used to alleviate pain. The electrical impulses "fool" the brain into ignoring the pain signals, as I understand it. My ICD booklet says TENS is a no-no, however. Perhaps there is a work-around so that TENS therapy can be utilized at specific times much like is done when electrocautery is used in surgery. I expect her doctors are the best judges of this, though.

A good friend with an ICD is currently in the hospital with degenerative joint disorder/osteo-arthritis. The pain is very debillitiating, and so far meds are not helping nearly enough.

About twenty-five years ago an old girlfriend (She's even older now--about fifteen years older if you believe her.) severely hurt her back and was in constant pain. the docs then used a battery powered electric unit with strapped to her waist and with leads to her lower spine to alleviate that pain. It apprently worked very well. I'm sure the technology has improved a great deal since.

My question is whether or not the ICD would allow such a low-powered electrical device to be used safely. Anyone know?

mmmm I'd have to agree with Lynn's answer.... However giving it further thought == If it is used in the lower back and the unit clipped at the waist -- it may be low enough powered and far enough away, it may be okay....

My incisions never heal very smoothly. I form a lot of scar tissue, which can look like bubbles or lumps. However, I think you should have your doctor take a look at it especially if it is red/inflamed.

Hi Sydney, I too form scar tissue any place where surgery was performed. I had my ICD implant in Sept. 2006 and in Jan. had to have it repositioned due to scar tissue and weight loss. After about 3 months of hardly any discomfort it's back. It has been moved much closer to my underarm and sometimes it feels like it wants to move there. I get shoulder discomfort and little stabbing pain all around the site, and the wires have slipped out(re: from the mouth of Dr.) and can be seen and felt aroung the device. Hello Bella,

My ICD is close to my arm pit too and I do have discomfort from it at times. The entire area around the ICD is very sensitive. I had a lot of itching in and around the area for a long time, but that is better now. It takes our bodies time to adjust to having a foreign object implanted in it.

Thanks for replying Sydney, I had the reposition done Jan. 2006, and about 3 months later and to date I still get itchy, slights burning sensations around the site. It's on my rte side where I had radiation and a mastectomy from breast cancer, wearing a bra and the shoulder seat belt is so uncomfortable. Since I moved from PA to Jax,FL about a month ago I finally was able to find a PC who will refer me to a cardio, my appt. is Oct 1st so I'll see what else if anything can be done. I have the same thing on my ICD scar, on the bottom end of it there is

a big hard lump of scar tissue. It's ugly but I've never worried

about it.

I had this.. I was told it was the end of

the ICD itself. My ICD moves around a little bit so it was on the incision for

awhile but now it’s below.

Hi - My scar looked horrible. My cardiologist told me it would be pretty small, he was wrong. It is over an inch long and a half an inch thick and it was very red and very puffy. I went to a dermatologist and she told me it was a keloid, so basically I don't scar very well. Surgery was an out because that would just product more scarring. I was mainly concerned because I got married this summer and my dress was strapless. What I ended up doing is getting 3 shots of steroids in the scar. One shot in the middle and then one on each side. The puffiness went away dramatically but it is still a pinkish/red. You can only get the shots every 4-6 weeks (one at a time) and if you get too many it will make your scar too thin. I was very happy with the results of getting these shots because now the skin is flat! It doesn't hurt too bad, just a little prick I guess. Anyways, it is the best

Thanks.. mine is about 3 inches long and

has been opened up 4 times in 5 months so it’s got huge keloids. I never

had this problem before with healing, just this scar and of course its

placement makes me very unhappy to look in the mirror. Did a dermatologist do

the injections for you?
