They're merely stating that environ. emissions of mercury may be at the root of some of the cases for autism. The focus is not on vaccinations in this particular article. These reports are just as important as the mercury containing vaccines. My son was never vaccinated and yet he is autistic (and I don't mean high functioning either). Mercury Pollution, Autism Link Found - US Study By Jim Forsyth Reuters Thursday 17 March 2005 San , Texas - Mercury released primarily from coal- fired power plants may be contributing to an increase in the number of cases of autism, a Texas researcher said on Wednesday. A study to be published on Thursday in the journal " Health and Place " found that autism, a developmental disorder marked by communication and social interaction problems, increased in Texas counties as mercury emissions rose, said , a family and community medicine professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San . " The main finding is that for every thousand pounds of environmentally released mercury, we saw a 17 percent increase in autism rates, " she said in an interview. About 48 tons of mercury are released into the air annually in the United States from hundreds of coal-burning plants. The study looked at Texas county-by-county levels of mercury emissions recorded by the government and compared them to the rates of autism and special education services in 1,200 Texas school districts, said. " The study shows that there may be a very important connection between environmental exposure to mercury and the development of autism, " she said in an interview. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has said it does not know how many cases of autism there are in the country or whether the number has increased, but that the issue is under study. Some experts estimate there are 1.5 million people in the United States with autism, most of them children, and say the number of cases has risen rapidly in recent years. " Autism has increased dramatically over the last decade or so and the reasons for that have really stumped the medical community, " said. " Now we think that due to the rising exposures in pollutants like mercury, they may be at the root of some of these cases, " she said. The Bush administration this week ordered power plants to cut mercury pollution by 50 percent within 15 years, but environmentalists said the action fell short of what was needed. They have called for a 90 percent cut in mercury emissions. " This research has implications for toxic substance regulation and prevention policies, " said Palmer, an autism expert at the San school who helped in the study. " Policies regarding toxic release of mercury and the incidence of developmental disorders should be investigated, " he said. Quote

Guest guest Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 Sue, Now I understand. Parts of Long Island are the target of huge pesticidal spraying campaigns, especially where I live on the South Shore. Not only are we blasted by the County of Suffolk, we also get federal aerial weekly spraying when the mosquito season starts because we live so close to the Federal Marshland which is part of the coast and our beach. I kid you not when I say I could hit that chopper with a rock if I wanted to. Thats how low it flies with it's long perpendicular arms spraying pesticides made with the nerve gas (when they used malathione only recently) used by the nazis to kill the Jews). A most disturbing sight to say the least. This goes on all summer. When the helicopter comes I grab the children, run inside and close all the windows for at least a half hour, though I no it settles everywhere. Malathione stirred a lot of controversy and was omitted from the mix.God only knows what else they are using. Spraying got more aggressive when West Nile Virus surfaced. How they can justify blasting over a million people because of a handful of fatal West Nile cases is beyond reason. Most people who get the virus never even know they have it. It's the elderly and immunocompromised people who perish. Thank you for bringing this matter to the forefront of my mind. We have very active groups that fight this sort of thing and I must remember to make a contribution to the cause. Guest guest Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Well yes the environment is a huge factor. I wouldn't think anyone could actually deny that. But the fact that the article says that the medical community is " stumped " at the increase in autism baffles me. They put huge funding into the testing of the environment and they could probably spend less just by stop using thimerosal in childhood vaccines (and I don't mean by trying to filter it out). Environment is huge...but so is anything we put into our bodies and I just feel like they are missing other links that are just as important. Maybe they're trying to shift the blame? " Autism has increased dramatically over the last decade or so and the reasons for that have really stumped the medical community, " said. " Now we think that due to the rising exposures in pollutants like mercury, they may be at the root of some of these cases, " she said. They're merely stating that environ. emissions of mercury may be at the root of some of the cases for autism. The focus is not on vaccinations in this particular article. These reports are just as important as the mercury containing vaccines. My son was never vaccinated and yet he is autistic (and I don't mean high functioning either). I know inheriting my vaccines is a possibility, but so are other factors including the air we breathe. As time goes by, we will discover contributors we never even thought of. Anita May <skunkiesublime@...> wrote: Environmental mercury may be the cause...but they deny vaccines could be??????? Quote
Guest guest Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 The medical community is stumped for a lot of reasons, denial of vaccine damage is one of them. The CDC has not denied it as of recently. 4200 law suits were filed against Merck last week by all the parents who were led to believe there was no thimerisol in certain vaccines since 1999. The cat has been let out of the bag and they know it. They can no longer deny that 87x the EPA recommended amount of mercury being injected into a child is a bad thing. Kirby is the best thing these parents have going for them regarding the Thimerisol issue. Did you happen to catch his interview on the Imus show recently? He is not an anti-vaccinationist and is very careful and scientific about how he presents the problem. Because of his politically correct style, and brilliant speaking technique, he will be heard and taken seriously by the powers that be. Until you can place the blame of Autism on one particular thing or another, and prove it conclusively, we will all remain stumped. Quote

Guest guest Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I appreciated the article as well, but I was just upset that they are overlooking a lot of important information. And only 4200 lawsuits is nothing next to the number of parents left with dead/autistic/vaccine damaged children. While it is a good step, and an important one, it is still too little. By focusing our attention on other aspects, I'm afraid people will lose sight of the non-thimerosal vaccine goal. People have already lost sight when the government started labeling " preservative free " vaccines. But look what happened...there still is mercury in those vaccines; preservative free...yes, but antimicrobial or whatever free....no. I think that of course we should try and eliminate thimerosal, mercury, all carcinogens from things that we are forced to live with such as our air quality/healthcare, but there are still plenty of doctors and legistlators and all sorts of powerful people that are holding on to the " we have to vaccinate the world " mentality. I just worry that people are going to move away from the vaccine issue thinking that we've got the battle won, when in fact it's pretty much just starting. Guest guest Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Eliminating thimerisol will only solve part of the vaccine problem. The only safe vaccines are the ones that never get used. Every single vaccine is problematic and potentially life threatening. We have to start somewhere so if thimerisol is where we begin, sobeit. By the way, I do understand your concern, I am just looking at the big picture from where I stand. Guest guest Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Yes again I agree with you. Thimerosal would be a huge step but still I would choose not to vaccinate (not that I have to worry about it cuz I'm only 18). I just wanted to urge people to stick to their guns. We've made a lot of headway with this whole fight anyhow. My sister is testifying tomorrow in Denver with some MDs. I'm not sure what she's directly battling this time, but let's all hope for her side to win. Thank you for all of the discussion; it seems like I haven't gotten the chance to talk health for quite some time as I'm bogged down with school work. I'm always up for learning something new about health so let's keep up this chitty chatting. Anita Durney <mydurney@...> wrote:Eliminating thimerisol will only solve part of the vaccine problem. The only safe vaccines are the ones that never get used. Every single vaccine is problematic and potentially life threatening. We have to start somewhere so if thimerisol is where we begin, sobeit. By the way, I do understand your concern, I am just looking at the big picture from where I stand. Anita Durney <mydurney@...> wrote:The medical community is stumped for a lot of reasons, denial of vaccine damage is one of them. Anita skunkiesublime fsinisbad <skunkiesublime@...> wrote: Well yes the environment is a huge factor. Quote
