Ralph's building is about 2 miles from the pentagon, he said it looked

like the plane mostly hit the helipad--big fire. He isn't even trying

to get home because traffic is so bad, plus he needs to stay.

Our district cancelled all afterschool and evening activities already.

Corey called as soon as she heard about the pentagon hit--she is

planning to go back to the dorm and watch CNN down in the Pit in the

lobby--which sounds good to me.

We are hearing that the prez will go to somewhere in the mountains of

NOVA--I would bet that isn't true or they are foolish to broadcast it.

Hi,

I am in the home front. We heard a loud explosion just before 9. Then right

after that, a collegue came to tell us what happened. She said that the

World Trade Center was bombed and my class was very upset. We can see the

World trade Center from our window at work and I saw a hole in the world

trade center with a cloud of smoke over the city.

A few minutes later, another explosion and then the world trade center was

gone!!!!!

News was filtering in and when we heard about the pentagon, it was very

scarry. No one panicked at work and we contained the children well. We

couldnt contact people by phone and many of my collegues brothers and

husbands are firefighters and all were on the sceen. Parents came to take

children home and it was awful. The smoke in the street in Brooklyn was so

thick we could barely breathe.

Ralph left work early and went to pick up both kids at school. All my

immediate loved ones are safe, but many, many, many people that we all know

work in that area and we are still waiting to hear from them.

I feel as if we are in a dazed dream and we are very very scared here. This

is way too close to home.

I don't know if they are moving out the entire fleet but ships are

definitely leaving port. We had moms and dad in the military going to school

to tell their kids goodbye as they were being immediately deployed. I heard

one carrier is on it's way to NY and other ships do not know where they are

going ( they tell the public the wrong area ... security reasons!)

We have certain tunnels closed to traffic to protect the ports, guards are at

the base entrances with weapons drawn .... it is eerie to see this in real

life ... what we would normally think of as only a movie.

I am waiting for my husband to get home before I breathe easy and we are all

home together. He is still at one of our local ports, trying to secure

everything there. He is worried we will have another wave of terrorism from

another source. WHere he works we have ships from all over the world come to

port, right past our Navy base. They unload containers and trucks then take

them out on the roads. He thinks it would be very easy to have containers

full of explosives shipped from overseas, picked up on port and transported

to a target!

I have been locked up in a workshop all day with only hearing that an attack

was made in Washington, imagine how shocked I was when I got into my car at

5pm and heard on the news of all of the tragedy My first thought went to

my kids who I imagine were terrified and with their older sister in charge

(she gets scared easily too) my second thought went to the ones involved and

then it hit me, my BIL is a pilot in that area. I could not get home fast

enough to check on him....he's fine, happened to be his day off

Mike was sent home, Fed Ex was evacuated since it's one of the largest

shipping companies and has been a target for years. Gas prices are going up,

at some stations in Mississippi it's 5 bucks a gallon, AK too, stations shut

down at 5pm. A petroleum guy was on the news saying there is a possibility of

a shortage, so I ran out to fill up.

I am in a state of shock and sooooo sad, is everyone accounted for on the

list?

By the way Rich Villa was our speaker, he's stuck in Memphis.

south of Washington. Lots of our kids have parents who work at the

Pentagon. Over 200 students were picked up early; I suspect that the

parent that did not pick them up works at the Pentagon.

Our school system chose not to send students home early fearing that

most parents would be arriving late. All evening activities were
