Guest guest
In KC people lined up for blocks to give blood and they accepted about twice as much as in a usual day, but asked people to wait a few days because they don't have any way to transport blood yet and don't know now much will be needed. They would rather we wait a bit and not everyone at once. We have even been thinking of my ex son-in-law, who is a flight inspector for the FAA and could be flying anywhere. Guest guest
Reports are that several ships are moving up the coast to protect DC and NY--others out to sea. Corey told me that a college in the Norfolk area is evacuating--gave her your tele and address, Cheryl, hope that's ok, she has a couple others too in case there such an action at her school. Ralph is just now leaving DC--the roads are finally clearing. But he has to go in again tomorrow. : ( One of the men who rides his van called me to say he (the man) was ok--he was working in an office near where the plane crashed, said it knocked him out of his chair and when he got out, he hitched to Mclean and rented a car. He sounded shaken. Horrible as it all is, I also think we should take a deep breath and remember that the point of terror like this is to create panic and turmoil and try not to cave in to that. Glad so many have reported in safe. Stay safe. I don't know if they are moving out the entire fleet but ships are definitely leaving port. We had moms and dad in the military going to school to tell their kids goodbye as they were being immediately deployed. I heard one carrier is on it's way to NY and other ships do not know where they are going ( they tell the public the wrong area ... security reasons!) We have certain tunnels closed to traffic to protect the ports, guards are at the base entrances with weapons drawn .... it is eerie to see this in real life ... what we would normally think of as only a movie. I am waiting for my husband to get home before I breathe easy and we are all home together. He is still at one of our local ports, trying to secure everything there. He is worried we will have another wave of terrorism from another source. WHere he works we have ships from all over the world come to port, right past our Navy base. They unload containers and trucks then take them out on the roads. He thinks it would be very easy to have containers full of explosives shipped from overseas, picked up on port and transported to a target! Guest guest
Our prayers and thoughts are with all those people who have died, or who have lost loved ones in this horror. Tony and I were watching " The West Wing " on tv last night and the news broke into the program - took us a little while to figure out that it was REAL! The first plane must have hit at about 11.00pm our time and we watched the live pictures from CNN until after 2am. This has affected not only all of you in America, but many many people around the world. Please know that millions of people are thinking of you - my children's school included all of those injured, killed, and affected in our morning prayers this morning. With regards , , , , and (Sydney, Australia) tonjen@...

Guest guest
Oh , I can hardly imagine being you and hearing and seeing this! I felt panic when I saw the second plane fly into the WTC and then I heard an airplane in the air here. The smoke has to be awful. I am so glad you and your family are all okay. Guest guest
I took our 8th grader to our church yesterday for her confirmation interview. (She was hoping it would be canceled, like everything else.) They had fliers announcing a special mass for victims tonight. While there, I heard about a really close call at the Pentagon. The husband of one of the secretaries works in the section of the Pentagon that was hit, in the ring next to the outermost one. She was hysterical until he called to say he had been in a different part of the Pentagon at the time. His office was destroyed. Not only was he upset about his coworkers, but he was angry that it was going to cost $200 to replace the keys to his new car! So much for our local businesses pitching in to help victims! I haven't heard anything yet about anyone else who was directly affected but am really concerned that there will be a casualty in one or more of our students' families, especially the girl whose dad was at the WTC and whose mom works at the Pentagon! Danny understands very little of what has happened but did comment that someone needs some " time out " ! Guest guest
>>someone needs some " time out " ! << Wise observation. I think we could all use a time out to catch our breath and just let it all sink in. I sent everyone to school today with qualms--my HS son said he thought it was inappropriate to have school. This is the kid who came home, watched the news for about a half hour and then casually looked at me and asked, " Dad didn't have to be the Pentagon today, did he? " Scary thing is that Ralph had a meeting there in the morning, but ended up being reassigned. The teachers had had the TV on all day, and Ian had been wondering all day. So much for a show of wisdom there! Especially with all the military families around here. Even tho' we were not directly effected and all the reports from friends and co-workers have been good, some people are unaccounted for, and I suspect the same is true for many other families in this area. Ralph put in a 12 hour day yesterday and headed north this am at 5:30-- to work in a section of the Pentagon. Should be very secure today, but it sure makes me feel ansy. Guest guest
I think it's despicable how these lunatics were trained (to fly) right here in America by Americans....I was sickened when I heard that this morning... I also heard that in Pemberton (?) NJ some Muslims were celebrating! I say ship them back to their homelands! Guest guest
Our middle school actually did a pretty good job of handling yesterday's events, a lot better than my daughter's middle school did. 's school announced what had happened, and her social studies teacher (ex marine) said we'd " probably be at war tomorrow!'At least they didn't watch TV! At my school, the principal made announcements for teachers to check email immediately three or four times. The first email gave a quick summary of what was going on and told teachers not to turn on TVs. The second suggested that, when asked, we tell students that we were waiting for details and rather than give misinformation, we would wait. The last was a plan to get students back to homeroom at the end of the day (We stayed throughout the normal workday because parents were probably going to be caught in traffic to get the facts. The principal did a good job. He told the kids not to jump to any conclusions, to go straight home and stay there, that parents might arrive at home very late, and, if they were too upset to be alone, to leave a note for parents before going to a trusted friend or relative's home. BTW the principal had a relative working at WTC. Now I'm getting anxious to do something. Believe it or not, it's not that easy to donate my O negative blood here.
