Hello, Kathy from beautiful Wales! :-)

I take it that Pangy is your daughter?

I sent her some cultures a long time ago.

Before she went to the US she was a very valued

contributor to this list.

So, welcome dear Kathy, to this list.

You will find it very interesting.

No question is too small or crazy.

Enjoy!

Blessings most kombuchaly,

Margret in beautiful Derbyshire :-)

was tested at school as part of the reevaluation and it was a good thing

that they did it because for us to qualify for more waivered services (more

money in the budget) it needed to be done. SSI likes it, even though they

didn't need it, they just felt sorry for me when I told them the number. When

the school needs to do it again, I will have them do it again just to see if

there has been any progress or not. Plus they tailored to test to what can

and can't do.

testing

{soap box}I feel strongly that the school should NEVER be allowed to IQ test.

It's a number on a page that people use to judge others. I believe that IQ is

not predictive of outcome. There are so many other factors, like determination

and effort, that make a big difference and can't be evaluted in some blasted

test. grrr{/soap box}

I understand and agree with this idea BUT.....you will have to have an IQ when

you want waiver services and SSI. Be careful. I would let them do it

periodically BUT never let a school use the score for placement decisions.

Schools should never be allowed to IQ test - I'm right there with this 100%.

Waiver services are completely different. was given an intelligence

test for waiver eligibility - but by a private psychologist and not the

school system. I did give the school a copy, but I redacted all the scores.

When I passed it out at a meeting, the first thing the school system did was

try to find the scores. When they asked where it was, I told them

" ';s IQ is not needed for his eligibility, he is not a number. The

exact reason why I redacted it was because I do not want anyone to label him

by the number " . Well, that was part of the reason. These tests are

verbally based, our kids play the game but more importantly, the score can

be used to deny speech services.

I haven't given Nick's IQ test (from Waiver) to the school.? When the school

system tested him they put him in the Moderately Mentally Impaired

classification while Valley's IQ test (3 years later for Waiver) put him in the

Mildly Mentally Impaired range.? It was recommended to me not to allow the

school access to the Waiver testing because the school would probably use it to

eliminate needed services.? With Nick he is all over the place in his abilities

(and he isn't consistent at any of them).? Basically, Nick can be 15 one minute

and 2 the next or anywhere in between at any given moment.? The last IQ testing

the school was to do I told them specifically that the score was not to be

released to the teaching staff that they could receive a narrative of what he

could do based on the test but not a score because I firmly believe the score

will be used to pigeon hole him and that is not acceptable.? They agreed with

me, but I've never followed up to see if they followed through, perhaps I

should.

Dr. Grim's questions;

1. How many times did you need to pee during the saline suppression test? How

much total did you pee. This is a poor man's (Drs) way to suggest that your

have PA. If urine volume out is the same as (say at least 1000 cc) you have PA.

Assume you got 2 liters of NS? At least that is what I have used over 1000

times.

2. Based on your drug resistance, you renin and aldo and K and clinical Hx you

have PA. Has a 24 hr urine ever been done.?

3. Did either of your parents have low K?

pee was not collected. I went about once every 10 minutes after the first half hour.

I have done 24 hour urine.

My endo is department head at U Hospital. I have read article, need to print out and see if she has read.

Next step will be imaging if I did not supprest Aldo in Saline test.

Don't know if parents had low K. I told my mom to see an Endocrinologist.

Our research suggesst that this problem is the most common cause of HTN in African Americans. Indeed we think it is the reason for the greater freq ofHTN in AAs. Are there any such results for Gypsies? My gt. grandfather was from the german gypsy tribe known as the "Black Dutch". I also have Norse, Czech, Bavarian and British ancestry (Plymouth Colony). Since there was a lot of intermarriage in the colony, could that have been a factor? (even as late as 3 generations ago, my great grandfather had only 6 great grandparents, rather than the customary 8).

You can go to the NIH family history site and do a pedigree as much as you can

on age and causes of death as far back as you can go.

Inbreeding increase likelyhood of certain genetic disorders. A pedigree will

help. There are some rare inherited forms of PA and they are discussed in my

article in the files.

As you probably know Gypsies don't get the best medical care in many places.

Be certain you mention this to your Endo at .

Any one else stunned at how quickly the summer is passing? I'm not ready to

give my kids back to the schools! We are busy trying to get the last bit of big

fun out of the three weeks (eek!) we have left.

I know that we just had triennial review and there was a

testing plan with all the possible tests, and the ones they were going

to administer were checked off, and noted by whom they were requested

by. We had to sign this, and then when more people jumped on the

bandwagon and wanted to do additional/different testing, we had to sign

an ammended testing plan sheet.

I would assume that the same is true for any official assessment.

By law, they have to have to have your signature to test. Ask to see the

document that gave your permission to test.

When they can't produce it, you 'have' them. This would like a medical

facility drawing blood or some other invasive procedure on a minor without

permission.
