Hi Sue,

That is what I thought as well but according to the director of VIPdx it is not

the case. Apparently not everyone makes antibodies. You can have been exposed,

have a dormant virus and because your immune cells hide it below detection it

can not be found. Test again in six months when you have a relapse or have more

symptoms and you might test positive. From what I understand a 'none detected'

result does not mean you don't carry the virus, it just means they were not able

to detect it at that time.

Until they found more precise and more advanced ways to detect it we will always

be in a limbo like this. It might take years before we get to that point.

Hi . Thanks for letting me know. I guess that explains why I keep

coming up negative even though the antiretrovirals are helping.

Its weird though....... if the body is able to keep the infection at levels that

low, why are we so sick????

I don't think it's the body that is keeping the levels so low, it is the

virus' natural way of flying under the radar. They don't know yet all the

places where it is hiding out, they just know its not in the T and B cells

like HIV uses. They are saying that XMRV is more like HTLV than HIV. I read

this yesterday

http://www.forums.aboutmecfs.org/content.php?187-Dr-Mikovits-and-Dr-Racaniello-o\

n-XMRV

and I didnt understand all of it but I liked it because it seems to be

discussing the real issues that are important. It also explains what is

wrong with the CDC study.

Thank you for sharing your story. I am so happy your grandchildren has a

Welcome, ! It's so good to hear your determination to protect your grandchildren. Your observation about unvaccinated children being healthier is shared by many of us. And, I, too, had a cat who died from the same thing, despite help from a wonderful homeopathic vet and having the funds. So, don't think if you had the money it necessarily would have made a difference.

Where do you live? This might not be as much of a fight with the schools as you think, unless you live in one of the "testy" states.

I live in Indiana. Don't know for sure about policies here, but a few weeks ago

they forced kids to get a new vaccine (not sure what it was) or they could not

go to school. This sounds more like Hitler to me than Democracy.

They are afraid of them and would not vaccinate at all if they get to choose,

and will only do the bare minimum if forced to do so. I hope that we do not have

to do any because even one can do so much harm to our beautiful babies.

You don't have to hope. You have the legal right to use religious exemptions in IN. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

There is no bare minimum or forcing of any. The schools will have you believe

that they must have them, but they do not tell you that you can opt for a

religious exemption in this state. My daughter is in second grade and I have

always submitted a vax exemption. Know your rights!

I had heard that you could get a religious exemption, but can this work if we

don't go to any church? I want to know my rights, just not sure how to go about

all ot this. It really wasn't something that I even thought about until the

epidemic with autism mas made public. And then my grandson was born and I

What state do you live in, some states have philosophical exemptions, others

have only religious or a medical. I live in NY state and it has religious and I

phrased mind as a " Personal Belief Affidavit " and it got my two sons in school.

One is a senior this year, and now will have to deal with colleges next....never

ends...

Yes, you can use these exemptions without going to a church. In fact, you don't discuss any details with the school at all. Just sign a statement per your state law.

Some states put up a stink, some are slightly picky and some accept them without blinking an eye. If I'm not mistaken, IN might be a slightly picky one but nothing Sheri can't advise you on. I'm in CT and have never had anyone question my exemptions except a summer camp, and I ignored them. The laws mandates vaccines but it also allow exemptions. Either way, you are following the law.

AND it's important to know a few things:

1) Even if you previously vaccinated, you can use an exemption if you stop vaccinating altogether.

2) You cannot pick and choose with religious exemptions. It's all or nothing, including tetanus.

3) Very important: vaccines are only required for daycare or school/college entry NOT for just being a citizen. Babies do not have to be vaccinated on the "recommended schedule" in order to go to school later if the parents choose to vaccinate later.

4) The recommended schedule might be similar to your state law, but that does not mean it is the law.

Example: in CT, four DTaP shots are required. So, the child gets them at 2, 4, 6, and 18 months. Think you're set? No, because the last one has to be given on or after the 4th birthday. So, a 5th one would then be required even though the law requires only four. You could legally wait until close to school age and then get them all at once but according to certain intervals between boosters (that is spelled out in the law).

Another example would be the flu vaccine. I believe it is only NJ that legally requires it but the CDC and doctors merely recommend it.

It's so much simpler and healthier to forego them completely.

We live in Indiana.

information that I can get on vaccines and avoiding them. My 2 grandsons, 8 mos

amd not quite 4 years have had no vaccines to date, but I worry that with the

oldest starting school in about a year and a half, we are going to have a fight

on our hands. I cannot even concieve of them ever getting these toxic substances

injected into their little bodies. To date they have hardly been ill at all when

I see so many other children that have been vaccinated that are constantly sick,

it makes me see what I've suspected all along. That vaccines cause disease.

immediately I saw a change in him. He got very lethargic and proceeded to get

diarrhea, and vomiting and would not eat. This lasted for several months and

doctors could not figure out what the problem was. He lost so much weight that

he looked like he had been in a concentration camp. I thought that we would lose

him, but finally it subsided and he began to get back to his old self. But to

this day he has inetesinal problems and that was 30 years ago.

> > > > > > I also had a cat, who was my best friend, who I always took to

get his shots because the vets stress how important to their health they are. I

wanted to do what was best for him. Yeah, right. At 6 years of age he developed

a tumor on his spine in the exact place where the shots are given and even

though I had it removed, he did good for about a year and then it came back. By

then I had no finances left to save him, so I let him go, which almost killed

me. But I swore I would never vaccinate another animal or get vaccines myself.

Now I have my grandchildren to protect from this insanity and I know I must

learn all I can for their sakes. So that is why I am here. I am not really

computer savy or Facebook savy, but I will listen and contribute as much as I

can. I feel that I am fighting for their lives and I will do whatever I have to

do.

I am glad to hear this, I had avision ot the state dragging us kicking and

screaming to get the kids vaccinated and I did not know what we could do to

avoid this. Luckily (I think) we won't have to deal with it for a year and a

half. Could the laws change by that time?

Welcome to the group!  That's wonderful that you're looking into this in advance to avoid vaccines!  As others have already stated, your state does offer a religious exemption you can use.  Here is a link to find your state on the map of the United States.

http://www.nvic.org/Vaccine-Laws/state-vaccine-requirements.aspx

Here is another cite which offers a sample religious objection. http://www.vaclib.org/exempt/indiana.htm

Here is the wording of the religious exemption law in Indiana to reference.

Section 20-34-3-2 Religious objections(a) Except as otherwise provided, a student may not be required to undergo any testing, examination, immunization, or treatment required under this chapter or IC20-34-4 when the child's parent objects on religious grounds. A religious objection does not exempt a child from any testing, examination, immunization, or treatment required under this chapter or IC20-34-4 unless the objection is:

(1) made in writing;(2) signed by the child's parent; and(3) delivered to the child's teacher or to the individual who might order a test, an exam, an immunization, or a treatment absent the objection.

I highly doubt it. Even if someone proposed a change in legislation, that hardly happens quickly. Religious freedom is pretty hard to override anyway. I wouldn't worry about it.

It's more at the college level that you have to worry because the kids are old enough to choose to get vaccinated. Plus, the college process so involved and competitive (getting accepted, financial aid, deposits, declining other acceptances) you could really be in a bind if you had to walk away from that--much easier at the elementary/secondary level. But so far (knock on wood) no problems with college for us.

Don't worry... There is no such thing as a mandatory vaccine (yet). Just

a touch of advice regarding next year and your future application for

vaccine exemption... Don't tell ANYONE who might talk to anyone at

school or at the district that you are against vaccines for any reason

except for religious reasons. It must be just for religious reasons!

I am in New York (one of those " testy " states LOL) and there is help

available that I found online that you can get it too. There is a lot of

info. But the key is not to give the district any ammunition against

you. Hopefully your experience will be less stressful than mine was!

We are homeschooling right now, but I will keep that in mind for the future.

Good thing to note!

Welcome !

Glad you found our group.  Sorry to hear about your situation.  It is not

unusual to be misdiagnosed.  I suffered for many years and was told

misinformation.  This group has many members that can share information and

experience.  I suffered 22yrs with achalasia, which was getting worse over the

course of time.  I drank lots of Coke with my meals and the last few years

everything seemed to either " foam up or regurg " .  There is no simple answer.

The surgery worked wonders for me, I am very happy that I did it.  But it must

be done by an expert doctor that deals with achalasia, and has done many, many

Heller Myotomy's, with success.  I would not let just any doctor do that

surgery.

If you esophagus is getting large, dilated, then you need to consider a plan on

what to do, doing nothing could result in further damage and possibly needing an

ectomy in the future.  I'm not wanting to scare you, but you should know the

facts on how this could possibly progress in time. That is what scared me, I

knew I needed to find help and the surgery was my best option.  Does your

doctor

suggest this to you?

The way I see it, the esophagus is like a drain, and the surgery helps things to

drain and not back up, the backing up is what I think causes the esophagus to

stretch out over time, I hope some of the others will chime in.

achalasia

Hello,

I am a new member here.

I was told I had acid reflux & hiatal hernia at 19. I am now 43. I took reflux

meds my whole life.

In August 2009 I noticed I was having trouble swallowing & started regurgitating

at night. In November of that year I went to my internist with this complaint &

she referred me to a Gastro doctor for a stricture dilation. They assumed I had

a sticture since I had been treated for reflux for so long. When I woke up from

the EGD I was told he thought I had achalasia and was referred to Dr. Wo,

Director of th Swallowing & Motility Center at the University of Louisville.

I had the manometry & was diagnosed with achalasia in December 2009. The next

month I had the dilation, but only got relief for a few weeks. My doctor said I

do not have a hernia & probably had early signs of achalasia not reflex. No one

ever did a berium swallow - just gave me acid reflux pills.

Dr. Wo told me my esophagus is very stretched at the base & he thinks I have

probably had achalasia for 10 years & it was just undiagnosed. I don't remember

having trouble swallowing prior to 2009. He said he would not recommend another

dilation due to the poor shape of my esophagus. I am not excited about the idea

of surgery & have been trying to manage with just changing my eating habits.

I have discovered the foods that I can't eat - bread & beef are at the top of

the list. I eat smaller meals now & chew my food to death. Salty food is the

easiest for me to get down.

I have 2 complaints - #1 - I can't drink water. Prior to my diagnosis I only

drank water. Now I can't. I can't drink anything hot or cold, but cola is the

easiest thing to get down because it makes me burp. Water - even if I sip it -

seems very heavy & painful when I drink it. It usually comes back up. Complaint

#2 - I get large amounts of air caught in my esophagus & it causes horrible

chest pains. I can drink Pepsi to create belching or I stick my finger down my

throat to make the air come up. The pain can be quite intense & when it hurts

the air needs to come out quickly.

I look forward to learning more from everyone here.

Thanks,

Watkins

Hi

I have had Achalasia for 5 years, now 80. I decided a long time ago

I could handle it on my own, no operation or dilation so far.

My secret is magnesium 250 mg twice a day; believe it is a mussel relaxant. This

will also loosen the stool just like Milk of Magnesium.

A can of COLD real COKE has CO2 which opens the LES, medical report.

Real butter is a fat; this opens the LES, medical report. I add a LOT of butter

to toasted English Muffins with cheese slices. Bushes brown beans and Marconi

and Cheese, Kraft has a 5 pack that have smaller Marconi.

In the evening chocolate cake and ice cream work for me. Hope this helps. Most

days 1-2 Ensure plus especially at night to empty the esophagus.

I spend a lot of my time doing research much like notan. I believe notan will

discover how to cure Achalasia!!! Read all his posts over the last 10 years.

hey - I understand the reluctance to get surgery but the VAST majority

of our group over the years have really good success with a well done (make sure

the surgeon has done at least a couple of hundred) myotomy. Typically it is only

an overnight hospital stay and only a week or so out of work. You can do a lot

of damage to your E if you continue on as you are.

You are fortunate to have a University swallowing center that is convenient for

you. Ask your GI who the most experienced surgeon is and then go see that

person. We can give you a great list of questions to ask that will help you get

the best outcome you can. Surgery is not the end of the world and may very well

open up a whole new world for you!! After my myo - I could eat and drink about

90% of what I wanted 90% of the time.

Glad you found us - we're here to help.
