Hi Sue in Portland!

I am not sure if I should say I am glad you are here or sorry that you are here. My tongue has a way of screwing up what I want to say and it effects my fingers too. I am sorry that you now qualify to be a member of this group just as I am sorry I qualify.

I have problems when I let myself think about all the weight I had to lose: 298 pounds. I have lost 46 and when I think about how much I still have to go it gets overwhelming and depressing. What I do now is forget about the big picture and stay focused on a smaller, more manageable package. Each week I work to lose 2 to 3 pounds so that comes out to about 10-12 pounds a month. That is my manageable package. I fight looking at the big picture because it will prevent me from working on getting my small package. It is working for me. Perhaps you can come up with something like that to work for you...

Take care,

Tema, Faye, and CB, thank you so much for your warm welcomes! Taking this

in small chunks instead of thinking about all the weight I have to lose is

going to be the only way I can do this, and thank you for reminding me of

that. I'm in AA, so I'm used to taking life one day at a time, but it seems

as if once I decided that I had to do something to lose the weight, I

started thinking I didn't want to be fat one more day!

But I'm starting to calm down and realize that I'm not any fatter than I was

yesterday before the doctor weighed me. I'm starting to feel enthusiasm for

my new way of eating, because I've made up my mind to eat foods that are

healthy and that I like.

Thanks again!

Welcome Sue,

Sorry for the late welcome but it seems that I'm always running behind these days! I also found out I'm back to needing to lose 100 grrr! I'll focus on 10 at a time, manageable. we can do it if we don't get overwhelmed by numbers but relish the small victories.

Thank you, ! Yes, I think the key for me is to take it in small

pieces, because I could easily get overwhelmed by the numbers. We'll get

there -- it's great to have this group for support!

Hi Mel, and welcome to our Life Lift group! I guarantee that we won't all desert

you -- you'll find lots of LL " buddies " to communicate with!

So you're 29 years old with 4 young children -- wow, what a handful. I have 6

children, but at your age only 2 had been born ... and now my " baby " has left

the nest (she's in Basic Military Training, Air Force -- should graduate June

24).

When I was close to 50, I weighted around 200 pounds -- decided that I was NOT

going to start the second half of my life overweight and miserable! So I dieted

(used low carbing with acupuncture) to around 125 pounds, got out of a miserable

marriage, and got my finances in order. At the time, my kids were 24, 22, 18,

16, 14, and 9 -- not as young as yours are, but still quite a handful (just

wait, you have the " teen years " ahead of you yet!).

Time moved on, I remarried and somehow managed to re-gain 30 pounds. A little

over a year ago, I had some surgery -- when my trouble with deep-breathing

occurred after the surgery, I surfed the net and found LifeLift.

I started slowly with the breathing/lifts -- then built up as I was able -- I

did the exercise regime each and every day! -- and now I'm quite limber with

lots of energy, 30 pounds lighter (I added supplementation and diet to the LL),

and absolutely addicted to LL!

I would suggest that you start slowly -- see what your limits are, and then

gradually work to increase your exercising -- LL is a gentle exercise routine,

you should never feel anything but marvelously energetic after doing it! Break

the exercising up into do-able chunks (i.e., I now exercise with LL for about 40

minutes each morning, then do LL breaths/lifts throughout the day, like each

time I go to the restroom at work....) -- whatever you do, don't overextend

yourself, just keep adding slowly.....

I also suggest you choose an eating plan (I low-carb -- which for me translates

to NO white sugar, white flour, white potatoes, white rice....but LOTS of fresh

vegetables and fruits, adequate protein and fat, and lots of fluids) -- eating

in a healthy, well-thought out manner will not only enhance whatever exercising

you're doing, it will definitely give you a strong feeling of being in control

of yourself....

So best of luck!!!

Bonnie

Introducing myself

I am new to this whole thing in fact it was a leap of faith just

ordering the tapes. I ordered the original on DvD with the

Reflexology tape and and the commuter audio tape, two days ago. If

this works I will order the two workout tapes and the oxygenzoo for

my kids. I am desperate for somthing to work. I have tried walking

but my skin became so itchy like the side affects from the pain meds

I got in the hospital after each of my 3 C-sections. I have tried

areobics like Powter, , and Kathy Ireland all

of which left me feeling so wobbly that after one of the tapes the

Kathy Ireland one I literally fell down the stairs in my home.

Luckily only my pride and buttocks were bruised. I am the mother

of 4 angelic tornadoe children and since I have gained all this

weight I just can't keep up with them. I want to share with you my

goals for what I expect to get from Life Lift.

1 Relieve myself of the excess lbs and inches that make me feel like

a failure.

2. Sleep better

3.Better Skin

4Immprove my immune system- (w/4 kids ages 8,6,3,2, I need it)

5. Get Control of my anxiety,

6. Reduse my need for medication.( currently I am on ZOloft for my

Anxiety and Depression)

7. gain control of my Panic attacks( I am a 29 yrold woman who still

doesn't have a liscence because she can't get behind the wheel of a

car without having a full blown panic attack)

8.Get back my singing ablility.(3 c-sections have killed my breath

control, which any singer will tell you, you can't sing well without)

9. Gain the energy and Focus to be the woman I was born to be

10. Learn to be kind to myself, no matter how much I think I am

blowing it.

I could probably go on but that is my top ten. I have written it on

post its and placed it by my computer in the kitchen and bathroom.

I deserve better than this half life I have been living, and so does

my family. When I turned 28 and weighed 230 lbs I told myself I

refuse to turn 30 and weigh over 200 lbs. My mother is in her 50s

and over weight, now she is suffering from cholesterol, high blood

pressure and painful arthritis in her back and other joints. so I

made a vow with my self to get it all off, and be under 200 by my

30th birthday. When I turned 29 this year with my 10th anniversary

approaching I took another leap and decided I could not do it alone

and I was going to have to spend some money on myself so I joined an

online diet site. They gave me the meal plans, exercise routines and

even a message board to find a diet buddy. I lost 15 lbs, but when

my diet buddy moved and never returned to the message boards my

resolve and inspiration left too. I stagnated. So here I am

impatiently waiting the arrival of the tapes, and hoping and praying

that finally this is the answer to what I need. Sorry for the long

post. I hope you don't mind if I don't always post, I will probably

be a lurker from time to time. If I feel I have somthing to

contribute I will speak up. Hope to hear from any of you soon. Mel

Hello Mel,

Welcome to LifeLift.

Bonnie has given you so much great information here. I hope it encourages you.

One of the most important things she has said is the importance of doing

LifeLift so it feels nurturing to you Don't push yourself too hard too fast. It

is always so much easier to stay with a program if it feels good to you to do

and my experience has proven that the more relaxed you are the easier it is for

your body to release toxins, fat and stress, so take it good and easy and enjoy

each and every LifeLift breath you take.

Hello Bonnie,

I am so happy to see you back safe and sound and still holding on to your weight

loss success. That is always great to hear.

Take good care,

Rashelle

Well, I know the Slim Series people but

since that list is closing down, I’ve been cordially invited here!

To give you some quick background, I’m

45 and have been working out for over 25 years now (how scary is that!). These days I’ve been doing Cathe and P90X for weight training, Spinervals

for cardio and have recently (in the last six months or so) started focusing on

core work, such as pilates

and other “functional” type exercises. I have IBS/colitis so if/when that

flares up, I find I tend to stick more to “gentle workouts” but on

the whole, I try to do “something” at least 6 days a week.

I used to ALWAYS be at the gym, but got

into working out at home after my son was born 15 years ago….since then,

I’ve never gone back!

Looking forward to getting to know

everyone!

Thanks for the welcome, Robin. We have 3 boys though technically only one is

“mine” – the older two are from my second marriage.

Do you have a Pilates

reformer? Do you do certain videos with

it? Right now I must have about 10-12

different Pilates workouts, but all of them are matwork (though some of them

using the circle thing). I love Stott’s

instruction but she can be EXTREMELY dry at times!

Terri,

Oh yes... I own a Stott Pilates Reformer and, oh boy, do I have

videos/DVDs! :-) I prefer to do mostly Stott DVDs because they are

more balanced, although, today I did do a Stamina " AeroCardio " DVD

today with a jumpboard just to get my heart rate up a little plus

it's a different kind of workout. When I have a lot of time I do the

Stott Intermediate or Advanced Reformer DVD which can take up to 90

minutes (or longer if I focus on certain moves). When I have less

time I do the Stott Power Reformer Workout which is about 60

minutes....I hope to get to do that one later today. With all my new

Cathe DVDs I've been slacking off on my reformer workouts because

I've been wanting to check them all out. I've become such a Cathe

fanantic...I'm just trying to find a way to fit all the workouts I

like to do in one week and somehow keep it balanced...LOL.

Yes, Moira Merrithew's instruction can be so dry at times but she is

still one of my favorites because her instruction is so solid and

technique so good. I have quite a few of her DVDs matwork included

that I haven't opened yet (I am bad).

I don't get a chance to do a lot of Matwork only because I usually

spend way too much time on the reformer. I've really been meaning to

do more matwork and I'd love to hear which are your favorite

DVDs/tapes and recommendations might be. I'm sure it will motivate

me to do more mat (wink). I did do Romana's Pilates Advanced Mat

this morning along with the AeroCardio reformer workout...LOL.

Robin: I find each Pilates

workout has its own particular flavor. Actually my favorite of all Pilates

workouts ever has been Moira Stott’s Advanced and Intermediate Pilates –

however, they’re only out on VHS and I’ve gotten rid of all of my

VHS in favor of DVDs. I have Stott’s

Core Challenge and her other more advanced one, but they don’t seem to be

as enjoyable as her older ones. I’ve

heard “gossip” that her older VHS may come out on DVD, and if they

do, I’m so there!

I enjoy doing Ana Caban’s Pilates –

also Rael Pilates 27 is very good. He

gives great instruction….

How much room does the reformer take up? (we already have

a spinning bike, a recumbent bike, a StairMaster, weights….there is no

way I can convince my DH that I would ever need a “Reformer”! LOL)

, welcome, and please waste no time--download Dr Grim's Evolution

of PA article from files, and read it closely.

Second, is the spiro lowering your BP? How much? Have you done the

" other half " of our PA palliation regimen, DASH or low sodium hi-K

diet? If not, maybe you can feel much better. It has been at least

half the battle for many of us. Forget about the " role of diet in

health. . .blah, blah, blah, " controversy. This is very specific. I

don't know about madelung's but several other conditions have

disappeared once the PA pt gets on the right course. Aldo blockers &

DASH.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your welcome and reply. I have already downloaded the diet

and I am VERY careful about salt already. It's good to know I'm at

least eating right. I don't do added salt or carbonated beverages and

I look carefully at any prepared foods for sodium content. So that

aspect is well controlled. Also my potassium thus far has been okay

too. I think I'm on the spirno for a combination of 4 factors serious

edema problems, a mass of some kind on one of my adrenals, and the

hypertenion that wouldn't go down before plus out of whack hormone

levels that also seem to be improving with the spirno. It DOES make me

feel better too so that's a huge plus!

I do think it is secondary to the Madelungs but the Dash diet is a

good one for Madelungs too I think. It really doens't require me to

make any significant changes, I've done all those dietary adjustments

long ago!

Actually till I got on the spirno my blood pressure would stay a

little high no matter what I took. It was not super high just

chronically a bit higher than it should be even with near perfect

compliance with two different meds, so the sprino is great for that

and as a diuretic.

Thanks again for the welcome and for directing me to the Dash diet

file!

If you're curious about Madelung's you can visit my website about it

Take care,

Good, I know DASH alone isn't enough, but then rarely is spiro either.

Wasn't it the Evolution of Primary Aldosteronism file I asked you to

download? Well, that one is an eye-opener.

Spironolactone alone keeps my bp down mostly averaging 120/80 + dash + exercise when I am calm.

However, when I come across stressful situations my bp climbs right to 180-190/100-120. So far I take an extra 50 spiro to help bring it down but I know this is not a solution. Considering I have severe reaction to beta blockers does anyone recommend taking any other bp meds to keep my blood pressure down at stressful situations(perhaps taking it when I know I will be in stressful situations) my gp doesn't know anything about PA to be of help. Considering the area I live in, I am the only pa patient of my gp, cardiologist, and my endo. At least my endo remembers what she studied at med.school and tries to help(she is the only one who diagnosed me so I am emotionally attached to her). My gp and cardiologist have no clue. Though they are both very nice. So far I am more educated about my pa than all 3 of them. I have also given them a printout of Dr. Grim's file on the evolution of PA, I hope they've read it.

1. How do I find a gp who has had experience with PA patients? Do I call the directory of hundreds of physicians in the area and ask how many PA patients every doctor has seen to find one until I find one?

2. When physicians listen to the heart sounds can they pick a different sound by listening to the heart beat of a PA patient with LVH?

3. Is there any meds to reduce or cure the LVH, does this happen eventually when you take spiro for a long time?

Thanks for your help

What was more successful for me than guaifenesin is Magnesium + B6, Malic

Acid, SAM-e, fish oil.

THere is a list devoted to guaifenesin protocol as developed by Dr St Armand.

Can you tell me a bit about how you used them? I tried Sam-e briefly

and it seemed to make me jittery. Do you suppose I could use 5HTP-

as a substitute?

Thanks

I can't help you with the disability process (I don't see how I will

ever qualify: this stole my career so gradually, and so long ago....).

But as a veteran mother of 16 years, I can tell you that even the

healthiest mothers of toddlers cannot, do not, ever ever ever, keep

clean houses. The ONLY way domestic order happens (for me and scores

of other mothers I've known) is either:

1. You either have a very tiny house and few possessions (not a bad

strategy for someone going through life with CFS or FM -- the less

there is, the less there is to manage, and the more energy you have

for other things that matter); or

2. You have paid help. I worked freelance while my kids were small,

which was around the time I started falling into the deepest years of

my illness. The only thing that kept the health department from

taking a special interest in us was the once-every-two-weeks

housekeeper who came and gave the house a good scouring. No matter

how bad things got, I always knew that at least once every two weeks

I could look forward to having the place back in shape (for however

long it might last). Also, when I did feel the housekeeping urge, I

could use that energy to do things the housekeeper can't do, like

weed out a closet or clean up a corner of the garage or organize the

kitchen, which did contribute to making the house more liveable over

the long run,.

With my illness, I have better things to put my energy into than

doing housework -- my kids, my marriage, my writing, my healing

process. At under $200/month for a smallish house, a housekeeper

costs considerably less than I spend on medication. (It was also

cheaper than paying a therapist to sort out the fights with my

husband over whose turn it was to do what.) Life is just too damned

short, and energy too damned precious, to be spending it cleaning

toilets, mopping floors, lying in bed staring helplessly at the mess,

or having fights with my beloved support team about getting it all done.

I know not everybody can afford this. (In that case, you might

seriously reconsider option #1). But it's also not as expensive as

many people think; and if anybody deserves to have housework taken

off our lifetime priority list, it's us.

And, I recommend against providing information verbally..... do everything

in writing and make sure you have at least two copies. That way, there is no

question as to what the issues are.
