- I never really knew what happened to Kendall-just remember

reading that things were not looking good for him.I just read at the

end of your post he was shaken. If you dont mind my asking, when was

this noticed that it happened to him?If you rather not talk about it

again I understand.

I haven't ever understood why fat or overweight is synonymous with

unattractive. I feel like I am attractive regardless of my weight. Now don't

get me

wrong, it has taken years to come to this acceptance of myself. When I come

out of this, and I believe I will, and rejoin society I want to love me

regardless of my weight. I don't want to suffer my entire life feeling like I

should eat less to be more of some else's' ideal woman. I have very exciting

plans to go with my daughter to try on school clothes during the week that I

have my trial. This will be my only chance before school starts considering I

have to wait about a month (hopefully) to get my permanent one. I am so

excited about this, I can't stand it. I am still going in my wheelchair

because

I don't think my endurance is high enough to trot around the mall despite the

pain relief. This will be my first trip to the mall in 3+ years!!

You have an excellent point. Trying to lose weight while home bound is

setting ourselves up for failure. I simply don't see a reason to beat myself

up

over being overweight, when physically I feel so poorly already. Eating is

one of the few things that I truly enjoy and still have the ability to do well

LOL. For me, I think food has always been an addiction. I guess I find

comfort in having an excuse to be able to eat what I want without the guilt. I

know that I can't fill that void that I feel inside with yummies or candy

coat my pain but for those brief minutes when I am eating something that tastes

as good as I had anticipated it to be, everything seems like it will be okay.

In reading over this post, I realize how ridiculous it must sound to anyone

who doesn't have a food addiction or a relationship with food like I do. If

you are reading this and thinking that, think about your vice. What is it

that you shouldn't do but you enjoy more than you should? Replace my thoughts

on food with that vice and imagine being able to enjoy it guilt free. It is

pretty amazing. Anyway, I need to stop before you all think I am completely

insane LOL.

Wow..Jaron!

You should be very proud of yourself....and that was great that your wife

joined with you!! Way to go...keep up the great work!

I also joined WW...for about the millionth time...lol...but this time, I am

sticking to the points as best as I can and have lost 21 pounds in three weeks

so far...so I am thrilled with that. I always am my worst enemy and

sabotage myself all the time...thank God for my husband...he helps me so much

with

it...he does the shopping, as it is impossible for me to do it with both legs

and my back so bad. He buys a lot of veggies, healthy snacks, and WW

treats.

I really hate hate, hate, hate water....did you guys get the hint that I

don't like water...lol....but now that I am drinking it I truly think this is a

big helper...it fulls you when you are hungry in between meals and if I am

really stressed, I just chug a whole bottle down...instead of a ton of cookies.

I know...no taste comparison...but I am so tired of being this fat!!!!

The meds are a killer for me also....I know most folks lose weight on

narcotics...but my weirdo body gains it...about 10 years ago I was on

MsContin....when I was weaned off of it, I lost almost 100 pounds in a bout

three to four

months with doing nothing differently!!

I also have severe asthma, for which I have been intubated now three times.

When I have a flare, I must immediately start taking Prednisone , which just

piles the weight on. I do like to breath...no actually I love to

breath...so I will have to take it, I guess.

I applaud anyone who tries to improve themselves...but most especially folks

who have physical problems that make it even harder....not an excuse...but a

real reason that makes it harder..not impossible I have found out recently.

I wish pain free days for us all and sleep-filled nights.

Gentle Hugs to all,

Kathy G.

HEY JENN!

YOU CERTAINLY DO NOT SOUND REDICULOUS!!! I THINK THAT EVERYONE CAN

UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM...WHETHER THEIR " ADDICTION " IS FOOD OR

ANOTHER

TYPE.

MY WEIGHT WATCHERS LEADER IS A GREAT, GREAT LADY. SHE HAS TOLD ME THAT

ADDICTION TO FOOD IS SO HARD...SINCE WE NEED FOOD TO LIVE...AND IT IS

EVERYWHERE....IN OUR HOMES, IN THE MALL....NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO....THERE IS

FOOD.

YOU MADE ALOT OF GREAT POINTS, JENN!

YOU DON'T NEED TO SECOND GUESS YOURSELF HERE, HON. WE ARE ALL HERE FOR YOU!!

LOVE YA

KATHY G. PA

WAY TO GO, JENN!!! GOOD LUCK ON YOUR OUTING TO THE MALL. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF

THE BENCHES AND THE FOOD COURTS...GET A WATER OR A SODA AND JUST SIT DOWN FOR

A WHILE.

I HAVE A WALKER WHERE I CAN SIT ON IT IF I GET TIRED...MAYBE THIS COULD HELP

YOU OUT WITH OUTINGS.

WAY TO GO, JENN!!!

I thought that my eating comfort food was all in my head.  But... my doc told me

that they have done studies and when you eat comfort food it actually releases

serotonin's in your body that make you feel better.  So, I was glad that I was

not going crazy because when I am in pain and depressed and eating

something actually makes me feel better than heck I am eating away.  But my

sugars are too high now ( thanks to the eating away LOL ) so that is why I am

doing the South Beach Diet.

I had my blood work done about 6 months ago but I wonder how fast all the

levels in body can change when it is faced with a complete lack of physical

activity. I go back tomorrow and I think I will ask to have them done again.

Insurance companies don't like to do testing anymore than they have to, so

this might be a problem.

I know that some of you have been suffering for as long as you can remember,

extending 20+ years. I am curious to know about weight gain, loss, and

other fluctuations since you have gotten RSD (or your illness/disease. ) My

weight has gone up and down significantly over the years but since this last

flare

up that left me essentially house-ridden, I have gained 25-30 pounds. The

gain is partially because of my complete lack of exercise and partially

because I seek out " comfort " foods when I get discouraged or down. I know

the

extra weight makes it more difficult on my body but eating is one of the few

joys

that I can still control. As far as appearance goes, I am not concerned

with the extra weight. My " circle " is very small and filled with only very

accepting, non-judgmental people and therefore the weight is of little

concern as

far as that goes. I do think that once I am able to go back out into the

world and start buying clothes and interacting with people outside of my

circle, it might become an issue to me. I don't have a particular point to

make

but I thought that this might be an interesting topic for us all to discuss.

Hope you guys think so too, I would like to hear you all " weigh-in " on this

HEY ALL!!!

I AGREE SO MUCH WITH JARON...WHEN HE STATES ABOUT BEING COUCH POTATOES....IT

IS HARD.

ONE THING THAT I HAVE DONE SINCE JOINING WW...IS WHEN I GET A BIG BAG OF

PRETZELS...OR FAT FREE PRINGLES, OR ANY FRUIT..OR WHATEVER....I FIND OUT THE

SERVING AND COUNT THEM OUT AND PLACE THEM INTO SMALL SANDWHICH BAGS. WHEN THE

SERVING IS DONE..I AM DONE...

I WAS SO SURPRISED WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT EVEN FRUIT...EVEN THOUGH IT IS SO

GOOD FOR ME, HAS A TON OF SUGAR, SO I NEED TO WATCH MY SUGARS WITH THE FRUIT

AND STILL COUNT A SERVING OUT.

WHEN WE GO TO THE MOVIES...WHICH IS VERY INFREQUENTLY SINCE SITTING FOR THAT

LONG KILLS MY BACK....EVEN BEING IN THE COMFORTABLE WHEELCHAIR THAT I

HAVE....I BRING A BIG POCKETBOOK AND BRING IN SERVING SIZES OF FRUIT, PRETZELS

AND

FAT FREE PRINGLES...WHICH ON WW IS 14 PRINGLES FOR ONLY 1 PONT!!!! :)

THANKS TO ALL FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE WEIGHT LOSS.

YOU ALL MEAN SO MUCH TO MIKE AND I.

I FEEL SO HONORED TO KNOW YOU GUYS AND HEAR ALL YOUR THOUGHTS, FEELINGS,

HOPES AND DREAMS. I LOVE TO SHARE MINE WITH YOU AS WELL.

I WISH FOR US ALL PAIN FREE DAYS AND SLEEP-FILLED NIGHTS,

GENTLE HUGS TO ALL,

Do you know if the cholesterol and tryglicirides could be from the med. or the

thryoid. Never had a problem until now. Thanks

Sue,

Medications and/or thyroid problems have nothing to do with your cholesterol or

tryglycerides. Those problems, unfortunately, are directly related to what you

eat.

For me, accepting the weight made it a lot easier to cope with the gain.? I

think I have an advantage here though because my circle of friends is very small

and I live out in the country, so nobody around here is that preoccupied with

their appearance.? That's not to say that we don't talk about it, but it is

nothing like when I was working and one wrong hair out of place led to days of

ridicule (yes, I'm exaggerating)

weight

I've also put on weight. I've put on about 30 pounds. In my case, I think it's a

combination of the meds and my thyroid. I was just diagnosed with

hypothyroidism. The problem is I can't get in to see an endocrenodegist.. I've

called 5 and they are all booked up for months. The earliest I can get in is the

end of Sept. (another good topic for another time). Not being as active as I was

doesn't help, I was an avid walker before my injury, I try to walk when I feel

up to it. Now I'm just so tired I'm not up to doing too much at all. I'm not

eating much, have lost my appetite, yet I'm gaining weight. The weight came on

me suddenly, and I can't lose it I don't feel comfortable, I always feel so

bloated. There are days that my legs and ankles are so swollen lately, that it

hurts to stand on them, making it very difficult to walk.

To all the members who are losing weight congratulations. Keep up the good work

.. I'm prould of you all. I think another reason pain

patient might turn to food is because it's the one thing left that they can

control. You've lost control over so much of your life, but the one thing you

have control over is your eating. You couldn't control your injury, accident,

how you got hurt. You can't control the outcome of the drs, insurance companies,

the pain, how others treat you, etc, but you can control your eating. That's the

one thing left for many pain patients that they can do for themselves.

I know that alot of Anti-depresion or drugs down that line will

make you gain weight. I have Mental Ilness and I do know that happens

with alot of these Meds

You are so right. Acceptance is the first step. Acceptance is the first step to

everything. It doesn't matter what other people think, what matters is what we

think. We have to accept ourselves for who we are. I accept myself for who I

am, I am just physically uncomfortable, always have a bloated feeling even

though I'm not eating that much( Dr. says thyroid is probably causing this).
