Hi Kate,

I was going to write that I don't get the " burn " for all the

exercises I do...in fact, sometimes on a lighter yet concentrated

exercise (like a forearm) I get the burn, whereas on a larger muscle

group (like my quads) I don't. I don't think the no pain, no gain

addage is true. Work to your failure, where you cannot do anymore

and then you die. Also, have you switched your work outs? Sometimes

at the end of my 4/5 week, I don't seem to feel the work as much as I

do when I first start a new workout routine.

Or try the curls or presses with a different angle (inclined,

declined)

Hello magicmarieuk@...,

In reference to your comment:

hi there, is there anybody like me who actually puts on weight with achalasia,i find it easier to eat soft food like chocolate and other rubbish,i cant eat meat or fresh fruit so i have put weight on

Marie, you will find many with achalasia are over

weight for just this same reason. When I first knew

I had this disease I lost 40 lbs in the first 3 months.

Then, I learned that chocolates went down very

well. I stopped my weight loss by eating chocolate

and soft chewy peppermint. I am one of those

that could not eat ice cream, it would immediately

come back up. Others here eat ice cream with no

problem.

I agree with , I would call the surgeon

about the surgery not being effective.

Marie, I think a lot of us do end up eating sweets and stuff with high calories just so we can satisfy our hunger. Seeing that you have had surgery 6 weeks ago there still might be some swelling from the surgery. I would contact your surgeon and talk about your concerns about what is going on. Most people do put on some weight after the surgery and that is because you are able to ingest more food than you have in the recent past. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. in Georgia.Marie <magicmarieuk@...> wrote: hi there, is there anybody like me who actually puts on weight with achalasia,i find it easier to eat soft food like chocolate and other rubbish,i cant eat meat or fresh fruit so i have put weight on,ive had my hellors myotemy 6 weeks ago and dont notice a great deal of difference,i feel a bit down about it as i thought it would solve everything, from marie in scotland in Georgia

I beg to differ with that nurse , for some of us even taking care of ourselves weight loss happens . I had a home nurse, husband , and children all taking care of me and I still lost 80lbs

weight

On the weight issue, they nurse said, (not always what the Dr says) if you come back in after a month and have lsot 12-15 pounds, then you arent taking care of yourself and if you dont take good care of yourself, less chance of the meds working.

They will check my viral load at 12 weeks, so I guess all the blood test they did at weeks 1-2-3 were for anemia.

Hugs to all, prayers to those struggling.

A freind of mine lost 50 pounds in the first 4 months. I have remained stable in 5 months. I think I am just beginning to loose, since the holiday candy and cookies are gone :) I think I lost 2 pounds. Hoping for a slow steady loss. I had a tummy tuck 2 years ago and was down to 145. I felt great, Now I am back to 162. But like I said have lost a couple pounds so I was heavier before Peg/Copeg start. I would like to get back down, but I think I gained it back cause I lost it so quick in a couple weeks from the surgery healing. For some reason it makes you loose fast. Anyway at least I have a flat tummy still! Best regards MelSHARON CROSBY <csharonxoxo@...> wrote: I'm 200+, I could very well handle that! ha ha weight On the weight issue, they nurse said, (not always what the Dr

I remember the bad days from the last round. I'm slowly feeling a bit weaker and more tired, but very slowly and can still us my TM and clean house, so that's enough for me for now.

Just found out yesterday that my younger sis has a small tumor on her kidney. She will have surgery in a couple of weeks....

Hi Marie, Well, I don't know whether you are the only achalasian putting on weight. What I do know, is that I find it much easier to eat chocolate etc. too. It seems to be normal, as chocolate seems to relax the muscles etc. Chocolate is on my menu every day too! Strangely I have Maom's on my menu as well. I think in the US you don't know Maom, but it is also a kind of sweet. It is not something that melts on your tongue, in fact quite the opposite. But...is slides down quite easy and...I love them!!! Instead of going on anti depressants, you might consider your options to lessen your swallowing problems. Have you already had any achalasia treatment, or are you already considering one? Don't worry too much (hear who's talking, ahum...), don't start running around in crazy making circles like I did. Try to stay positive. I am going through quite a hard time with my achalasia

myself now and I keep saying to myself that everything will turn out for the best for me; to every problem there is a solution, it's just a matter of time and patience. This attitude helps me cope most of the time. Keep having faith!!! Isabella Marie McBride <magicmarieuk@...> wrote: Am I the only person in the world with acalasia that has put on too much

Hi - i have been reading all the posts - fairly new on the board. Really enjoy all the insight from all. is great with lots of good advice. I am sorry for all of your ill health. I had Botox injection 4 weeks ago - first week was HORRIBLE and now spasms have almost gone and I can eat small meals. I am trying to schedule my HM on 6/5...still awiating a return call from the Dr's secretary. It has been a hard decision, but I really don't want to go back to the way I was eating!! I know you understand. Thanks for all your input. Good luck.

Before I had my esophagectomy - I weighed 240 pounds and tried and

tried to lose weight. I have had a problem with my weight since the

birth of my child in 1988. So from 88 - 1998 I had problems. It was

much easier to eat " junk " as meats and vegetables seemed to make me

feel full and more typically got " stuck " and alot of fruits would

give me reflux. I lost alot of weight after my esophagectomy - at

one point down to 100 pounds - but I had to relearn how to eat and

had a time. I now weigh

150 - 160 pounds most of the time. But I did have a doctor tell me

that it was hard to diet with achalasia due to slow motility and the

body grabbing every fat cell it could! So you are not alone. Good

luck!

Marie,

I packed on nearly 50 lb when I was diagnosed. For some reason,

chocolate, ice cream and puddings seemed to go down pretty well. I also

injured my leg and couldn't exercise. Now I am getting back on track,

but geez.....
