I love , but I could never lose weight on his program. His chart says I should be eating 2000 calories for my weight, but experience has proven to me time and time again that I gain weight if I eat more than 1400 and don't lose unless I go 1200 or lower. >You can check him out at www.richardsimmons.com Or my old web site at: http://members.tripod.com/sue_in_nj/rich.htm >if you'd like, his current program is the Food Mover which is a little plastic box that you close a window for each portion of a food group you eat and when you've closed all your windows you're done for the day. And for recipes with the Foodmover exchanges already figured out for you, see our sister list, Deal A Meal/Foodmover Recipes at: rsdeal >I really use mine more as a guide than anything to show me how to portion food, I use the 1400 cal card in the Foodmover along with the McDougall food plan. Here in the NY/NJ area it never really hit this year because of all the rain we had last month. But the rain on wet leaves means a lot of mold and my asthma's been acting up because of that. I try not to use my rescue inhaler (MaxAir) any more than absolutely necessary because it raises my blood pressure, and the docs don't like that. When I was in the hospital in September I was so grateful that my primary care doc called in a pulmonary consult. He was satisfied with the meds I was on and he had to fight with the cardiologist when he wanted to take away some of my asthma meds, like the Advair, because he thought the Serevent portion of it might be raising my BP. The pulmonary doc told him that without it I won't be breathing at all, so which did he prefer? It took years to get me on the perfect drug combo so nobody better change it now! >Sometimes I get so tired of it all. But I'm going to do this. I'm taking my time and doing it slowly. I've been plugging along for 56 years now. It just never ends. But at least I'm eating healthy and getting tons of exercise, so my bloodwork is beautiful, and as long as I can do all that and reduce the stress in my life I can keep my blood pressure down in the normal range. Guest guest
Hi Lyn! My name is and I've lost over 150lbs. The first thing I did was to change my eating habits. I didn't add in exercise right away because I couldn't....I was recovering from a c-section and I was not allowed to do certain things. So, I guess my advice would be to start small....make small changes and build on them. I found that I could live with a few small changes at a time...I would not have been able to make a 180 change and stick with it. Start with small changes in your diet...and then start with small exercises. One video I started with was Sansone's "Walk Away The Pounds" Her 1 mile video takes less than 20 minutes and is pretty low impact. You just pop in the DVD and basically walk in place in front of the TV. Hope this helps! My blog link is in my signature and my whole weight loss story is on there :-) DeMenthttp://theophilusacademy.wordpress.com/ On Nov 8, 2009, at 10:41 AM, Lyn May wrote: I'm Lyn, 54, no children, divorced for many years. Guest guest
Hi h, Inulin is a type of soluble fiber. More specifically, it is a carbohydrate extracted from root vegetables in the class of fructans. It may be added to commercial kefir to prevent separation and produce a smoother product. In your gut, inulin acts as a prebiotic, making conditions favorable for the growth of microorganisms within the gut. It also has potential to cause harm, which you may read about here: http://www.naturalnews.com/022356.html -------------------------------------------------- > Hi everyone, > > As a newbie, I'm grateful for all this new information. > > I purchased my milk grains from a woman in Utah - very generous and they > started to culture right away. Guest guest
Thanks , The information you and sent me on inulin is very valuable. I drank my first full batch (2 cups) of milk K. last night. This was after it starts to separate after sitting X amount of hours after the first straining. I wanted to try it this way as supposedly it has more pro-biotic activity, more vitamins, less sugars and is the more traditional way. But it left a lot to be desired. Have to get used to it, I guess, or maybe start drinking it right after straining the grains out until taste buds adjust. Or maybe just drink what floats and leave the whey for the time being instead of mixing it together. Kitchen chemistry is fun. ....h. > > Here is a site with info on inulin. Guest guest
I agree with you that it isn't necessary to add fiber to kefir. They are probably doing it to prevent separation more than anything else. These fibers are different from the probiotics in that they make conditions in the digestive system more favorable for the growth and colonization of the probiotics. Thus the fibers are called " pre " biotics. If a person doesn't get much fiber in the diet, the beneficial organisms don't have as good an environment. Eating enough fiber makes a nice cozy bed for your kefir bacteria and yeasts to live happy and help your body fight the good fight. _____________________ >>>>>>>>>>> > it seems a bit superfluous to add it to kefir since kefir does a > lot, if not all, of the same benefits. then again, when doesn't the food > industry add too much? lol >
Guest guest
Thanks for the link. I read Nat.News sporadically and had not seen that one. Guest guest
Hello again, I have yet to drink my kefir plain. I always have a smoothie in the morning so I just use kefir instead of yogurt. My favorite so far is the one with frozen orange juice, kefir, vanilla extract, and a little honey if you want it sweeter. In addition to that I add herbs that I buy for health instead of a pill for vitamins. Try drinking your kefir in a smoothie and see if it works out better for you. Guest guest
Welcome, Billie Jo! Many of us here also vaccinated our oldest out of blind faith, so know how you feel. You definitely need more than Dr. Sears's book. He is open, but still believes in vaccines. I would get Neil 's books. He has a new one, Vaccine Safety Manual, but any of his older ones are great, too. Easy reading, packed full of info and graphs to show that vaccines were not the reason for the decline of disease. I know most people look into vaccines because they are concerned about safety risks. But when (if) you come to understand that they don't work, you will look at them completely differently. Definitely hold off until you do your research because you can't take the vaccines back out.
