Hi Laurel,

you might try V-Pure vegan EPA/DHA-supplements. They're made of algae

(that's where the fish get their omega3 from) and this brand is also

the only brand that has vegan EPA in their supps: http://www.water4.net/

Vegan DHA is also available, also made from algae. You'll probably find

someting when you do a google-search.

For A-Linolenic Acid, flaxseed is the best thing. I recommend 1

tablespoon a day. Also, this ALA will partly be converted to EPA and

DHA in the body (if your body is up to that). Use an organic version

and if you take it from a bottle, do not use it after 6-8 weeks. Keep

in stored dark and refrigerated.

At the Linus ing Institute in Oregon they have great information

about nutrition. This is the info about omega3-fatty acids:

I'll try the krill and algae, but I need to do it with a bottle of

benadryl nearby. What fish eat may actually be what I am allergic to

in the fish, so I need to be cautious. I know beyond doubt that I am

allergic to fish oil - I can eat salmon but if I get any of the fatty

part my tongue swells and my mouth breaks out within an hour, often

immediately. Supplements that contain fish oil are the worst.

I had allergy testing and showed no reaction to fish at all. I asked

the allergist and she said that testing is done with a purified piece

of whatever ( in this case fish). The fish is specially farmed and fed

hypo-allergenic foods, and then they use a section that does not

include the fat or organs, or stomach contents. She said my allergy

might well be, not the fish itself, but the food it feeds on, or algae

in the part of the ocean they live in. these things settle in the

fishs' fats.

Seems pointless to do allergy testing given those methods, but pouring

money down a hole seems to be a major symptom of auto-immune disorders!

So, one of those things might be worse than fish oil. My gut feeling

is it would be the algae, if only because algae is the mold of the sea

and molds and mildew are a problem for me. I'm not sure there is any

logic behind that though. Any of you know?

Like mjh, I don't do well with flaxseed oil. I may not be breaking it

down but I also tend not to handle it as delicately as required. If I

try it again I need to change my habits so it doesn't get forgotten in

the fridge. Maybe put it in a spray bottle and spritz it on everything?

Thanks for all the suggestions - lots of things to look into h=now :-).

Thanks, Penni,

I'd like to learn more about this. I only know about using them in

wound care centers, as my MIL had treatments in one for lupus.

When I joined this list last week, I searched the archives for

references to Atlanta and that is how I learned that people here use

them. I learned there is a man here in my area that builds and sells

them to individuals? He has no website though - just an email addy.

Anyone know anything about him or his machines?

How do you find a place to try this? Is this the tube thing I've seen

in malls that people lie in and water rushes around them?

TIA,

I would do a search on the internet for HBOT centers near your home. It looks

like a big tank that you lie in, you would not see it in a mall. Penni

the place at that link sounds like it could be good, its in CA it

looks like do they have a branch in GA?

Do you know if they take insurance? do you think that place would

rule stuff out, i.e. I have been wanting to rule out all the other

possibilities that may not get caught by simple blood tests like

myathenia gravis but my regular doc won't want to do it so would like

to go somewhere they understand and have capability.

I have read that the best source of the " longer " omega 3's, for those

who can't handle fish oil and can't lengthen the omega 3's in flax, is

to eat the omega-3-enriched eggs, such as Eggland's Best or (in the

health food stores) Chino's Omega 3 organic eggs. The chickens are fed

flax seed, and they do the " lengthening " for us! These eggs are really

delicious, too.

You'll lose a few pounds of water weight but don't be surprised if it

all comes right back on as soon as you start eating again in 2 weeks.

You may want to talk with your orthopedic doc first and find out what

you're allowed to do. Would your insurance cover some physical therapy

if you can get your doc to prescribe some? A PT would be the best person

to show you what kinds of exercises you can do for weight loss that

won't harm your back.

Hi Clare - welcome to our group. I am sure you will get the support and motivation you need.

I am now weight 320. I am looking to get down to 170 my doctor says 150 but I am being realistic. I am 5' 5" and 37 years old.

I was 310 when I started and my original goal was 155 and my doctor says 170 should be low enough, but we'll see when I get there. I'm 5'8" and 40 yrs old. I want to be realistic too... and healthy, so that's why I say we'll see when I get there.

I am married to wonderful man named Graeme and we have two great girls Jeannette who is 16 and who is 15. My dh is obese and my youngest daughter is definitely overweight and I don't want her to suffer how I did.

Is your dh supportive of your efforts and going to work on his weight with you? Your daughter should get healthier by following your example and eating choices, I would think.

Our oldest daughter is 5' 5" and weighs 125. I don't know where she got her metabolism but I wish I had it.

Could be from the other relatives on either side? How's the rest of your family?

My mother is obese. I don't know about my father. I always thought he was tall and skinny, but I never knew him, only going by what I think I have been told (LOL). I have an aunt and uncle and my grandmother all on my mother's side are all "normal" weights and never seem to have to struggle with it. I don't know about my father's side though. Anyway.

I am , 40 single mom of 3 boys: 11, 13 and 15, have been losing weight for 3.5 years now and almost to 60 lbs gone. There's no going back. I might take a long time to get to goal, but I'll get there.

What plan are you going to follow, anything structured, or just healthy eating on your own and exercise?

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone.

, Nice to meet you. sounds like we have quite a bit in common. I am . I am a sahm to 2 kids and have 2 adult step kids and 2 grandkids. I need to lose 107 loubs for me to be at my goal weight of 170. I too am a carb eater and have almost zero will power. I don't get much excercise either do to pain conditions. I also have several health conditions that losing the weight would correct, I think. I am currently counting calories. So, far I have gained and lost the same 10 pounds over and over because I will do good for 3 or 4 days and then I will fall off the wagon. I am hoping to have a better time of it this coming week. Look forward to seeing you post often. "art.zine" <oneilpress@...> wrote: Good morning all. I just joined the list. Good Sunday morning all.

Thanks for all the great welcomes I have received.

I was wondering what types of diets y'all are following? I'm diabetic and very sensitive to carbs so I am not really following any "plan", I'm just avoiding sugars and cutting way, way down on carbs. This has, so far, been a good weekend for me.

One of my big problems is that I come home tired and don't want to cook. I am feeding 2 other adults, my daughter has a weight problem in it's early stages and I want very much to keep her from being like me. We carry all our weight in the middle.... nice legs, cute butts and a huge gut.

I need good nutritional meals that are fast, easy and cheap. I do use the crockpot but you can only eat so many crockpot meals in a week.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi ,The details of the diet I follow are on my website here:http://www.naturallythriving.com/basics/cfd.phpI do eat low carb and have reversed my pre-diabetic condition. I spend 15 minutes cooking in the morning for the whole day. I store my food in stainless steel food jars (like larger thermoses) so it stays warm all day. I do a lot of stir fries and batch cooking.

I have read through and printed off of your site. I have always wondered if I had Candida problems. I have atleast half your list of symptoms. The brain fog and fatique are killers I have been fighting a long time.

I am going to go on the Moves diet and see if that will help. At this point I am more than willing to try anything.

thanks for bringing this to my attention. It sounds like a way of life that would be beneficial to me. I am also diabetic.

, I am just counting calories at this point. I am trying to eat more nutritious foods as well and watch my carbs (type II diabetic). As for cooking meals on the days that you are working I have a hard time with that one as well. I normally need to leave something for the family that they will all like (that is a task in its self) and it has to be either already cooked or something that they can just heat up. It can be difficult. I have signed up to a frozen meals group and use a few of the recipies on there that I can cook in advance, freeze and then pop in the oven before I leave so it will be ready for them when they get home. I think you could defrost the day before and cut the cooking time down for the day of. Some of the meals that I have found are rather healthy, and then again alot of them are full of high calorie stuff so you kind of have to pick and choose through the

recipes. I understand what you are going through with your daughter. My 10 yr old is over 5' tall can't remember if she is 5'1" or 5'2" anyhow.. she is 150lbs and reminds me alot of me when I was her age. The up or down side to it depending on how you look at it is that we are just learning that there is something wrong with her thyroid. I have done many internet searches and am still not sure what the heck is going on so I guess I am going to have to wait until we see the pediatric endocronologist. I hope that it will help her with her weight. I am sorry I couldn't be of much more help. a

Welcome Kim,

I am almost 3 weeks into my regiment down about 2lbs but I have to tell you that even better than that is how much better I feel. When I started my workouts I could only lunge 1/2 of the small track at the gym and this Friday I went all the way. Watch your calorie intake, I don't know a whole lot but I think 1200 calories may be too little for you. I am at 240lbs and keep my intake at around 1800 calories, that is what my trainer suggested. If you don't eat enough then your body will store the food you do take in and losing weight could be more difficult.

God Bless you and your journey,
