Thank you ! I love this group! Since I joined I've learned so much.

Joining and reading the stories has also uplifted my spirits! I'm so thankful

for all the info. I'm going to get right down to business and contact Dr.

Rice's office. Since he is so popular. I wonder what is waiting thime is like.

I've noticed that many specialist are usually booked at least 2 weeks to a

month.

I contacted Dr. Patti by email on Friday evening and surprisly he responded back

early Saturday evening. I'm so excited I'm getting somewhere. I'm also happy I

didn't go ahead and schedule my surgery with Henry Ford right away. Those

surgeons were ready to go. For some reason they thought I would be the perfect

person for the robotic surgery. And I'm sure they don't have much experience

because the surgeons would not give me the exact numbers of cases they've dealt

with.

records and films and we should have an over the consultation within the next

few days. I emailed Dr. Rice, hopefully it's the correct email. I called his

office and sent over my records. So I'm still waiting to her from him. But

I have had to be very patient with Dr. Rice's office manager, a.  She does

not respond to my requests or questions.  Am I doing something wrong or are my

expectations too high.  I hope this isn't a reflection of Dr. Rice's

competence.

Just wanted to let you know that Dr. Rice reviewed my records and he wants to

redo all three tests. OMG! Honestly, I feel more comfortable with him doing

so. The only thing is he won't have anything available until the end of May...

and that's only for the tests. I'm just curious.... How many trips did you have

to make before surgery?

I'm so glad you contacted Dr. Rice. I may have mentioned before that the

equipment used for the tests at CCF was more sensitive than what they had at

Beaumont (probably better than Henry Ford, also). The staff that performed them

seemed to be more skilled, too, which can mean a more comfortable test for you.

My husband is the one who saw Dr. Rice and he didn't have surgery (he has

DES, not Achalasia). We made a total of 3 trips to Cleveland, but a couple of

times he saw Dr. Achkar (gastroenterologist) for a consult and then an EGD with

Botox. On the first visit, we were told to plan on staying in town a couple of

days, so my husband could have an initial consult with Dr. Achkar one afternoon

and then tests could be scheduled the next day (fasting tests in the morning).

Months later, when he saw Dr. Rice, we ended up staying 2 days in town, also.

That included having tests, meeting Dr. Rice and then being squeezed for another

fasting test the next morning (and talking with Dr. Rice and a GI doc

afterwards). Did you make an appointment, yet? Make sure you tell them that

you're coming from out of state. They were very accomodating for us, trying to

fit in as many appointments as possible while we were there. I've heard of

others in the past in this group that traveled from out of state and had

surgery. I'm pretty sure CCF worked with them, too, to get things done with the

fewest trips possible.

As far as the wait, if your symptoms are hard to live with, make sure to tell

them. Ask if they can call you if he has a cancellation (if your schedule is

flexible). Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm still waiting to hear from the scheduler at Dr. Rice's office. Somehow she

was working on the schedule but went on vacation. I was told she'll be back

today and it looked like she was working on scheduling me for all three test on

May 14th.

Now, I've also been in contact with Dr. Patti in Chicago and he has responded to

all of my questions. His nurse is checking to see if they can get me in this

Monday for and consultation and pre-testing and surgery on Wednesday.

I have scs for rsd/crps of right lower leg and foot due to damage from surgery

resulting in a tarsal tunnel surgery. That resulted in worse RSD. You are in the

right place!

I wish I could answer your questions. I'm having trouble concentrating, my brain

Hi Thea! nice to meet ya! I have morphine tabs from my doctor too, but I get

SICK from them, so I take them like 1/2 or 1/4 of a pill and go to bed, I get

nausea from them, so alot of my pain is controlled with the SCS. And some days,

this is not enough. The fibromyalga

is painful enuff, so I take a darvocet instead of the morphine tabs, I hate

chronic pain, dont you? and today its cold and rainy, damp weather is NOT good

for me, my husband and I are considering moving out the area ( southwest) so we

dont suffer with the cold and dampness. Well God Bless and take care, be

carefull with the morphine tabs, have a

good day! ( less pain)

Hi Amy, Is your SCS dorsal? mine is, and  I have terrible low back pain, It

acts up my Fibromyalgia something terrible, some days it works some days it

doesnt feel effective.

Yup, chronic pain stinks. Although my doc isn't worried about my morphine use,

being sleepy a lot of the time isn't too great, either.

In fact, the morphine wasn't working, so I've got oxycodone. My hubby and I live

on Maui. It's not cold and damp.

Besides the RA and carpal tunnel, I've got a pinched nerve which is sending

shooting pain down my arm. Every time I write, I pay for it. So naturally the

story I'm working on doesn't get done because of the pain and because I'm too

dazed to write anything, and all my emails must be short.

Have to stop for now.

I am not a big fan of chemo but if she wants to get it then she needs an

advocate for getting medicaid. Obviously being so sick, she can't work,

which should make her eligible for medicaid. There are also pro bone lawyers

and legal aid.
