Guest guest
I shorten them leaving the second one being replied to, otherwise one has no idea what the person is referring to. If reading on the web and not shortened, one has to scroll through all the thread to get to the next one, a pain if including all previous ones in each. If there are 20 replies, one doesn't want them all repeated for every reply.. Bruce ----- Original Message ----- From: McGregor I agree.....I like to read an entire conversation! Guest guest
One= most of us lol. On occasion I have read posts on groups online, to follow replies for a subject when every previous one is included in every reply is a pain. If the same info is repeated for every reply. So I trim to the previous one that is related to my reply. Now I'm repeating myself lol Bruce ----- Original Message ----- From: MacGilchrist " If there are 20 replies, one doesn't want them all repeated for every reply.. " Who is one by the way? Guest guest
I choose not to enforce trimming because I hate to do it. I do trim the long replies out of courtesy but I don't want to be militant about it like on other groups I am on. Just my personal preference. If it is too hard in digest then reading from the web is an option. Steph Re: Why doesn't this group trim posts? Guest guest
, Do you know how to highlight text? In the reply window, that's what I do---highlight older, uneeded text and then delete it. Then proceed to post a reply to what's left. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Well, one for 1 is me! It helps to leave only enough info for the reply to make sense. If you actually read the posts, you have already read the conversation. There is no need to include the address either. For those on digests, the repeats and length of junk is unbearable. I would think it would be especially so for those who are sick and feel overwhelmed.Nonie "If there are 20 replies, one doesn't want them all repeated for every reply.." Who is one by the way? It is called an archive just for that reason. Or you can have your email program set up so that all messages from a group are delivered to a folder just for that purpose. Years ago it was just proper net etiquette to trim posts, same as it was polite to post in plain text and not to top post but anymore nobody seems to care about being polite. Guest guest
Yes but this is my group and I choose to let it be the way it is. I don't want to have to sign onto the web to look up the history. That's why I choose to receive e-mail. That may sound harsh but it is still my choice on what I would like to have done on the group. Guest guest
Yes, I need to say that Steph is the owner and gatekeeper here, and it's her call. There is no one single right way to maintain a mailing list, and I for one am very grateful that Steph puts the time in here for this list. So if it suits her to not have all posts trimmed off, then that's the last word. I leave as much as I think is necessary to understand what I'm responding to. I'm on another list right now that has a trim rule and half the time I have NO IDEA what people are responding to because they leave no context at all. I definitely do not have time to go looking on the web for context archives. Thank you, Steph, for giving your time and energy here for iodine. -- At 05:16 PM 2/12/2010, you wrote: >Yes but this is my group and I choose to let it be the way it is. Guest guest
My solution has been to set my preferences to recieve " individual emails " rather than " digest " Never saw any real advantage to " digest " mode in decades. It's pretty simple to skip through the emails and not have to scroll very much. " Trimming " has always been considered good " nettiquet " but there are ALWAYS the ten percenters that never get it. It ends up, you need to work it out for yourself. Chuck Question anything that starts " Obviously... Guest guest
So, I have been around a long time, but I never knew that about 'top posting' - which I am doing right now. I do it because then the most current comment is at the top, and if you need to refresh your memory, the responded-to info is available below, but to me it is much easier to follow with the newer info on top! In fact, if there is a large amount of quoted material at the top, I am likely to miss the new comment at the bottom! But, I looked it up, and it is definitely more polite to do it that way. I don't think I will like it any better when I see it, but at least I know why it is done now. Beth in MN > > Your history is available on the group's web page.
